In the state of Mississippi it's an easy answer, Mississippi State University. But elsewhere I've often wondered the answer to this question. What is the premier school that every baseball kid dreams of playing at one day? In Texas maybe it's Rice or Texas, California could be Stanford, I don't know. This website has a pretty large user base and I would love to hear the top feedback from each state. Thanks!

In CA, you can pick from Stanford, Fullerton, Long Beach State, Pepperdine, San Diego and now Santa Clara and UC Riverside. Stanford has to get the edge based on national recruiting and past results. Watched them sweep Fullerton who played without their #1 and 2 pitchers and best outfielder but after the first inning of the first game it was close to pickem. "Saw Long Beach on Saturday and they look like a team that for all 9 innings you think you will beat them and you look up at an L on the scoreboard. Solid from 1-9, good speed and good pitching. Santa Clara has very good young coaches recruiting very good players and just got approval for a brand new stadium. When you look at the facility at Pepperdine or San Diego you know they will always be in contention because they are places you would like to be in retirement, not going to school--just beautiful. So the edge to Stanford but they better not miss or there are 5 standing right behind.
In WI it's...........................no slam on UW-Milw, but, by an eyelash it's da Brewers. OOOPs, thats right their pro. Wink

Due to issues beyond the general publics control the "hottest" team could also be the "coldest" team due to the lack of qualifing entries.

infielddad - With all due respect, I submit Cal-Berkeley as a program that should be included along with the other fine schools you have noted. Great coaching staff led by Dave Esquer, who is building a solid program that is looking better and better every year (he also has an excellent eye for talent rolleyes) Of course, I'm not biased at all...

Pay attention to the feedback that takes you where you want to go!
I'm not really sure what to say about Washington State. I don't know that any one school pops out as the one all the little boys say they want to play for. Seems like they always want to head south to Stanford, USC, Arizona State. Maybe it's the rain! biglaugh

Mr. and Mrs. Baseball,

It is true that Oregon, Washington and Montana lose players to the SunBelt, mostly Arizona, Arizona State, and sometimes Stanford. But if you look long term, Santa Clara picked up one from Texas, one from Arizona, one from Wazzu, and one from Hawaii. These were transfers.

In Oregon, there is Oregon State for most D1 players, but there are players from Oregon at Santa Clara, UCSB, Arizona, and Stanford. Sunshine is definitely a major consideration, though the indoor facilities at UW and Oregon State are top-notch.
UR: I agree that Coach Esquer can judge talent and can really recruit the players he wants. I did not include them because after 3 years I think the jury is out on his ability to develop his players. First year they went to the Regional but that was mostly Coach Milano's recruits. Record has declined each year since. This is the telltale year. Great recruiting class ranked 5th in the nation, loses only one starter and comes off a 29-28 year. I would think they must have huge expectations. If there is not a significant upswing and a regional berth, it does not appear to be for lack of talent. Will watch them closely and with interest.

I agree 100%, Fred Hill & his staff have done a great job! but then again who elso could it be? Wink

Montclair's program was once the best in the state, but that was a generation ago.... (Fred Hill's day)

My Alma Matter, Upsala, was awesome in the 70's but the school doesn't even exist now Frown (we somehow managed to beat Montclair a few times back then Smile )

The hottest state would be Florida, FSU, Miami, University of Florida, FAU, Lynn, Rollins, Not to mention Stetson, and the University of North Florida with Dusty Rhodes making all the calls, I would be surprised talent for talent, if there was another baseball state that was as well rounded as Florida, you can go from the north in Jacksonville to the south of Miami, to the west of Tampa and the east to Palm Beach, and stop and see quality baseball along the way. Not to mention some pretty good high school teams. ..........Coach Dan
