If what you say is true, then we can't have polls, batting stats or anything else that is fodder for us dads. I believe you were the one who picked South Garland over West, right? If we can't use stats, what are you basing your prediction on?

I flipped a coin, it came up tails.

I know you fathers enjoy your banter, but to say one team has the best pitching staff because their era is ___ and they only gave up X no. of runs in district this year is ridiculus. Comparing pitching staffs is one thing, comparing using stats is what bothers me!

Comparing pitching staffs with stats is not fair!!! All teams being compared are from different districts play on different fields (wind blows in or it blows out) have different umpires etc. This post is trying to compare apples to oranges, mars to venus, zebra and a horse.....................

Oh, why did you not include Rowlett and Southlake. Rowlett is better than teams listed other than maybe PW. I think Southlake is better than teams listed and will get to prove itself vs. the Coppell district right off the bat.

Exactly my point dodger thank you for re-enforcing my point. My post was never about Coppell, I just used a point of reference I know well. I think Rowlett and Southlake must have good pitching to be where they are as well but I think Hebron has a couple of boys that have put together solid years as well and will be a test for Southlake. Just like Colleyville will test Coppell, a match-up that looks dead even going in.[/QUOTE]

If you go by the numbers Wylie and Coppell stack up with both PW and ARLM. I am sure other teams around the state might have better or just as good numbers but they just haven't really looked at how they stack-up.

Acowboyfan, above is from your first post. It appears that you are trying to highlight Coppell "If you go by the numbers Wylie and Coppell stack up with both PW and ARLM." MY POINT, you can't use the numbers to compare pitching staffs!

That is a classic baseball rivalry and it is sad that its over.

I bet the Poteet football fans (all both of them) are glad HP isn't in the district now..
Dodger,

How do you measure pitching staffs and then compare them?

I haven't had the time to see Plano West or Southlake this year so I look at the numbers for some type of guidence. I also rely on the posts here about certain pitchers to help gage ability.

But of the teams I have watched I haven't seen a staff that has a dominate #1 and #2, guys with real overpowering mound presence and the stuff to go with it. Some of what I saw gives me hope and I think next year DFW will see some great pitching staffs.

I just don't think any of the area 5A teams are great. Great is a big jump from good, solid, competitors etc....great is great. JMHO

Beast and P1 - do you know anything about the Moody or Calallen pitching? Do they compare to the McKinney's or Poteet?

I didn't even see that. That is crazy. IMHO I think national rankings are never accurate. Even state rankings are usually flawed. Like the current 4A poll has CalAl #1 Poteet#2 and Moody#3

http://www.thsbca.com/index.php?action=polls

People in CC would argue that Moody should be #1 because they beat CalAl..

I would like to see PWest play Moody. I don't think Moody would even get close.

What if the winner of 5A plays the winner of 4A and the winner of that game plays the best team from California or something. Maybe get it televised? That would be a big boost for the sport of baseball.

South vs. West Coast
or a
North vs. East Coast

Make a little league world series of high school baseball. Good for scouts.
Just a few (carefully worded) thoughts about the post-season:

I like the combination of mental and physical skills at Forney and Wylie (in tough first round matchups).

Denton Ryan will not only win this week (over BYE), but will continue winning for a while.

So will Plano West.

Arlington Martin and Coppell will match up in a great Regional Quarterfinal (3rd round). I have a pick on that matchup, but choose not to share it.

Response to the pitching part of the thread above: Klein Collins has the best pitching staff in the state.

CoachTraub,
I, as well, will try and word this carefully. How many boys on the McKinney baseball varsity have been to your seminar? I would guess none, so this means you have no idea of their mental skills. The only players / coaches you know about are those who have paid you, would that not be correct? If I'm wrong, inform me how you figure Forney to have a superior mental game over MHS.

RobertO S - you started this thread, He threw down and now you seemed to be offended by it. You attacked his seminar? It seems like you asked for trash talking, an you got it, but don't like what he said. Now that is funny Get out of the kitchen its too hot for you!!!
I've re-read CoachTraub's post and I don't believe he used the word superior, and, in no way, did I "read in" anything about inferiority. Oh, and did he mention "in tough first round matchups"? I think, and I'm reading this into his post, that he believes Forney's mental and physical skills should make them very competitive against an obviously solid team. At least, I certainly hope so. I, too, have some skin (or is it "genes") in these games.

So, if I ask for trash talking, I can't talk back. What would the fun be in that? Get in it or stay out of it, don't just lurk, put in something worth while. Give the Ed Sir opinion on something...anything. Don't just let Traub do it...come on Ed be mentally tough, you can do it, grow some!

Bob S - Now thats some good ole trash talking. I'm not going after your lively hood nor you at me. Just to keep it lively, I too will go with the Stars over the sharks, Forney in 3, and a lot of good baseball this weekend.

PS.
I grew some, But my wife keeps them in a mason jar ontop of the Frige. She says it keeps me out of trouble that way.
