I’m trying to find a used 2019 33” Meta Prime. I’ve seen them priced anywhere from $800-3000! Holy cow! I didn’t mind shelling out the cash for the new 2020 Meta and really wouldn’t have a problem spending close to that for a used one, but who spends a grand or more on a used bat? What happens if you buy it and then it later gets de-certified?

The Goods is a more of an end loaded bat and the Meta is more of a balanced bat.  I wouldn't assume that The Goods would be the right bat as they will have different swing feel.  Also, The Goods is an alloy barrel bat and the Meta is composite.  The Meta will have a longer barrel and a larger effective sweet spot.  Lots to consider.

This may be my Captain Obvious moment but did he try the bat and do any comp measurables? I know feel is a big factor in the equation, but for the cost and effort there should be some quantifiable metric for your player and not the testimony of some 6'2 225 lb daddy hacking web opiner.

My son has a 32 right now and really likes it. He used a 33 wood all summer and hit great. Now I would say that is more due to the new coach he's been working with than the bat, but I'd like to pick up a 33 since he seems to be comfortable with that length. My first thought was to grab a used 2019 Meta since the 2020 was banned, but those prices were nuts. I've been told the Marucci Cat series has a similar feel and they are way cheaper.

FWIW, I'm not saying I am even considering spending that amount of dough on a used bat (or any bat), but I thought it was an interesting topic.

My kid prefers to hit with the Victus axe.  I got lucky on eBay and grabbed 32in 2 1/2 years ago for about $100 but he needed 33 and I got it for $160 with a 20% coupon code. That one lasted 1.5 seasons before an evil cutter made it firewood. I begrudging bought another new for about $200 since there was no coupon or used available. Now he wants 33.5...my wallet is grumbling

Not sure if you thought of this but, what turn wood bad has he been using. It is possible that he was using a wood bat with a higher MOI than what a balanced bat would provide. If so, a metal bat with "some" end load may be a better choice and give him some room to grow. If it will be used for HS, (not sure where you are from) he might not see the higher pitching speeds he has seen over the summer, which would lesson the need of a faster bat speed, and by using the some end loaded bat, could give him some extra power.

Note: Just a thought, I don't know his size or strength.

Sorry didn't answer the main question in my post. Most ever paid was 350 (but used a Dick's 20% coupon so it was less). But currently looking at a new BBCOR that may be a "perfect" fix for youngest that the cost is 399. But it checks all the boxes for his hitting style and preference in writing. Just waiting for an opportunity for him to get his hands on it for some testing.

The next bat that is going to start seeing these crazy aftermarket prices is the Victus Nox. Sold out right away and it is being compared to just as hot as The Goods. PTWood, tell your son to keep an eye out on this bat for re-selling.

SSHHHH don't be telling the world at least until I can get one. Have a feeling they will sell out quick. If anyone wants to know why I think this send me a PM.

most I ever spent was 120 for the current bats my kid is using. would pay?  not sure yet...i almost dropped 250 for a meta a couple of months ago but was outbid at the last second (not for use but for the 500 voucher since it was the banned 33...not sure why that particular auction flew under the radar)

my kid swings wood bats turned by a local bat maker.  His kid was in the same org as my son so he gives them to me for 10 bucks off (normally 130).  he does it as a hobby so no mass production.  for HS game bats, he swings old xl1s, so i usually bide my time on the auction site and get them for under 100.  the one he's currently using, though, was an emergency purchase (just cracked the one he had been using...the white one) so i couldn't be as judicious in my shopping and had to settle for an orange one at 20 bucks over my "limit".

Always a tough balance, justly pushing the "Indian/not the arrow" message but knowing that crappy equipment is not a great situation...

I'd figure out which bats rate decent, give him a reasonable price cap and make sure he swings a few (whether it be friends bats, in store, etc.) so he knows balance is right and it feels good to him.  Then, push Indian and don't allow arrow BS.  I'd stay away from the "search for the best", "find the hot one on ebay" stuff.

This said, I know it ain't easy with young players.  For many, getting that new bat is a pretty exciting thing.  It can be hard to take too much of that excitement away.  Hell, let's be honest.  A lot of the college and pro guys still get excited about a good new bat.  So, see that he gets a good one.  Let him have his day.  THEN, don't allow for any equipment excuses.

on the indian/arrow thing...we played in las vegas a few years ago.  the 3 hitter came up and he was stacked!!  you could see muscle definition underneath his baseball pants.  looked like a MAN!!  kid ended up hitting one about 40 feet up into the netting that surrounded the field (300' fences and 10' fences).  i was talking to the base coach and he said that the kid was swinging a bbcor (it was 13u so -5 allowed) and that it was a bat he picked up at a low end sporting goods chain store that morning because his other game bat broke.

the manchild is on the national team so, unless it was a totally under the radar sixty dollar bargain basement "arrow", that one was totally the indian.  if he had been using the 2020 meta, i think it would have gone through the netting!!

Why buy a new hyped performance bat? Quit playing around, haven't you learned yet to just buy a $30.00 model off Ebay or from PlayItAgain,  send it off to Weroll&shavethemBestest.com or your local machine shop.  Sure its gonna blow up after 75 swings, but hey its just 30.00 and you can buy the next one to rig up. May as well buy 2 to start so you can keep the rotation intact without missing a beat.

Or even better, the recent local fad is to take a 33 or 34 for example, cut the knob end off by an inch or two (Hint doesn't work well on plastic knobs, got to buy an old school metal end one to weld back on). Gives you a 32 inch bat with a 33/34 barrel size.

Yeah but you may say why not just choke up an inch? Ha beats me. I guess chicks dig the long ball, and I haven't seen anybody choke up in at least 5 years.

BBCOR my arse.

Oh and The Goods? Straight out of wrapper adds 40 feet on day 1 to BP. In a skilled player it can literally go from balls landing just over the fence, to balls hitting the tree tops behind fence. It could be the medium endload feel.

But whichever, it still doesn't beat the wrist flick distance of a rolled/shaved up and shortened bat.

Its all fun and games til someone gets hurt. Hey shoutout to the local high school perennial powerhouse with the 4 'team' bats from circa 2015 vintage. I see ya! Hope that end cap never comes flying off when I can get to it before you do, or my catcher can retrieve your exploded bat before you grab it and run hide it.

Should my son take these bats to a showcase or camp?

"Should my son take these bats to a showcase or camp? "

Absolutely, cause not a sole seems to care.

I saw a kid play his whole showcase career with a pre-bbcor model and nobody ever said a word. Yeah he stayed at D1 for a semester.

I mean I wasn't that aware, and commented to son that wow he really barreled that ball up distance wise. Looked like it was going to be easy fly out based on swing? Son says....well hell Dad he's using a pre BBOR bat so what did you expect. Done it for 3 years now and no one has stopped him.

LOL, not even someone from the 'reputable' organization stopped him.

Oh, man.  This subject means I take the walk of shame.  Most I spent was on the 33 inch 2020 Meta in January which of course had to go back.  Replaced it the 2021 Meta.  Since 8U, my son has never swung a bat that cost less than $200.  $300 was probably average.

Having said that, I absolutely hate it and do not subscribe to bats being all that better than one another.  It ain't the bat, it's the player.  I have a buddy that is always chasing this ghost.  Whenever his kid wasn't hitting well, he had a new $300+ bat overnighted from Justbats.  Sometimes it happened 3 times or so in one season.  I don't spend the stupid amounts of money on bats because I honestly believe one hits the ball better than another.  I spend the stupid money because my son believes it.  At the level he plays at, the mental piece separates the good from the great.  If his bat makes him believe he's more likely to hit the ball better, it probably will.  So I continually take the baseball bat walk of shame about once a year.  #selfloathing

Funny!  "peaceful protest projectile".   Modern day = #rock #frozenH20bottle #M80 #molotov #brick

Super hot balanced bat that no one knows about...  exclusive to Justbats.com  Combat B2 ATB.  It is the real deal.  Bat started on the website at $229.  Now $300+ due to demand.  You're welcome.
