Son is on a very very bad summer team.  He isn't having fun.  Coach doesn't talk to the kids after the games.  Very nice guy, but not very motivating.  Kids don't talk in the dugout.  is there a way to find out if teams needs players for upcoming tournaments?  IDK, I just feel really bad for the kid.  Only one more tourney left (so 5-6 more games) and they are done.  He thinks maybe just practice once this is over and then move on to fall ball.

We’re in a similar situation aside from the fun factor.  As long as he’s on the field and playing challenging competition, your son is still likely headed in the right direction.

As far a finding a team, there are a lot of Facebook groups in our area that post guest player needs.  That might be an option for you too.  Also might want to check in with old teammates or teams that he’s played for in the past.  We’re in Florida so finding an opportunity to play on a given weekend is rarely a problem.

Best of luck!

If your son isn’t being asked to play for other teams when he’s available there probably isn’t much interest. He will have to be aggressive in his search. However, this is more true for position players. If he’s a pitcher teams always need tournament depth. Over the years up to 16u I saw some brutal pitching late in tournaments as teams ran out of quality pitching.

I don't understand the not play and workout mentality unless you are really young, 8th grade and under, have nothing to show, or already committed.  You have not been seen for over a year why would you not be out there as much as possible.  My sons played in every tournament possible and some times 2 in a week.  People want to know every day on here how to get seen and the ultimate answer is GET SEEN.  You can't get seen in the weight room or throwing in the yard.  You have to be out there where coaches are to get seen.  My youngest son played with 9 different teams going into his junior year.  One for a summer, some for a tournament, and some for one game.  Get out there and get seen.  His freshman year he played in 14,15,16,17, and 18U WWBA.  You want to know how to get seen, don't allow them to miss you.  He pitched at 14U against the team that won the 16U and 18U WWBA and did well.  Against 16U, he threw 6 innings of 1 hit shutout baseball and in 18U he threw 2 innings of shutout baseball.  He looked like a baby out there against them.  But he definitely got noticed.  All the coaches wanted to know who this kid was playing and the parents of the teams he was playing on had no clue.  But he got noticed and they found out who he was.  They were so intrigued how we got connected with the teams.  Want to know what it cost to play with these teams?

Just wondering, about how much DID this cost you?

We paid $50 to one team because they gave him a cap, and 2 shirts they had to have made up for the tournament.  I gladly paid it because he got to pitch at 16U WWBA against #1 team.  We played at 1 AM with a team that no one had ever heard of from the north.  Some times it is right place and right time.  He got on a lot of radars that day being only 14.  That is the only amount we ever paid to a team to pick up with.   Some will say it was because he was a pitcher and I understand that but if you can pitch there are a lot of teams looking for players on PG message board.  He and middle son also played with a couple of teams that showed up at WWBA with only 12 players and they both got to pitch and play a position or hit every game.  It happens more than you would think.  Players decide not to come or get hurt at last minute.  Both played with teams from California 8 years apart.

There is a bulletin board which shows all events and you go on it through your child's sign-in (so you have to already have a player profile set up) and click on the events that you are interested in playing in.  It has your child's contact information that you set up on it and coaches can contact you if they would like for your child to consider playing with them.  It used to have all the players looking and even teams looking on one page but now I think you can only see them as a coach.

We got connected on here 15 years ago with an organization that was looking for players and my middle son was looking for a team to go to WWBA with.  He stayed with that organization for the rest of his HS career and youngest son played with them some.  I have also sent him about 50 players over the years.  It used to be big on here that players who were looking would post and teams that were looking would post on here but it has dwindled over the years.
