What to do with young player?

Looking for sage advice...
Situation: I have a young player- '15 grad who is getting some looks. He has taken a few college visits too. By young he is already up a grade level by age due to academics. he could even be classified a Frosh by Ohsaa deadline. A few next level coaches have expressed some interest-mainly due to projectability, but one has even suggested JUCO since he'll be only 17 starting college.
Problem: He is already a PSEO student who in 2015 will grad with HS diploma and a 2 yr. Associates Degree.

I'm unsure of years of eligibility. One "Bearcat" didn't even know what to say to this except refer him to their Admissions and get on Academic Scholarship apps.

Ideas or help?

Is he physically that far behind his classmates? Is that the primary concern?

He could probably go post grad (PG) at a prep school. Lots to consider there; expense, quality of baseball program, 5th year HS eligibility issues, etc. The JC route is an option, but are there any JCs that would offer the kind of academic experience he needs?

Just based on your brief description, it sounds like a high academic DI or DIII might be his best bet.

His desired major is something to consider. Science and engineering don't work at most D1's, so likely a DIII would be a better fit, but again not knowing his desired path it is hard to give additional advice. If he is high academic he is going to get a lot more academic money than athletic so this is something else to think about.

Another option is to go to a place where he can continue and get his graduate degree and take a redshirt year and play while he is in graduate school.

If he is doing engineering he can also find some 3-2 programs where he transfers and can get a dual degree and his eligibility will transfer to the other school. Take a redshirt year in school 1 and then play two and two.

Just some thoughts.

Good luck

Let him do a Gap year overseas. How about a year in Japan, learn the language and play ball? There are lots of great programs that let him grow in ways that going to school can never accomplish.

He comes home, physically a year older, socially a year older, intellectually years wiser. He is already ahead of the curve academically. Baseball will be there, if he has the equivalent of his AA he will already run out of his 4 in 5 if he starts school right after HS.

Thanks for the encouraging thoughts and astute insights.  concerning his physical makeup -right now 6' 200lbs.  Pediatrician thinks 6'2-6'4 by max height.  so, size not really an issue.

Present major specialty is Pre-Med.

Another option is to go to a place where he can continue and get his graduate degree and take a redshirt year and play while he is in graduate school. I was not aware of this option: first time ever going through this.  Things sure have changed in 30 yrs.
