Got a question for the more experienced out there. We are pretty new to showcases and are trying to get perspective on this.

Wanted to know what is considered a good running time from home plate to 1st base for 16-18 year olds?
( Timed on an indoor track,...clocked with a stopwatch. )

Seemed like most boys at a recent local showcase ran about 4.4 - 4.7, with one of the lowest times being 3.9. Just wondering how those times fit in, comparison wise, with other stats from around the U.S.?
Below the average from your experience, above average,..or pretty much right on the money?

Just curious.

shortstopmom,

4.4 in that age bracket is very good. 4.5-4.8 would be fairly common with many higher than that and a few lower than that. Once again it depends on the amount of talent that was there.

Major League average from right side 4.3
From left side about 4.2

3.9 is an absolute burner! But then again no scout would count a home to first unless it was after making contact with the bat and not on an indoor track. Were these just 90 foot sprints on an indoor track? That would explain the 3.9.
Thank you for your response!

A little background might help explain better:

Only about 56 boys in attendence at showcase.

From looking over the roster, it appeared to me that all boys seemed to be from our local area, within a 3 hour radius.
( thus my reason for my question,..wanted to get more of a national average comparison on the stats, but perhaps that's going to be difficult, considering the conditions it was run in. )

Boys only ran from the right side and got two chances to get their best time.

Boys had to swing bat, hit the ball, drop the bat and run to 1st. I am assuming the stop watch started when their first foot advanced toward 1st. (? Thats what it looked like while I was observing )

This was done on an indoor upstairs soft track.

It was pouring buckets outside, so the first day activities were brought indoors at a baseball winter/season work out facility.

I'm sure the staff was doing their best to come up with a way to improvise for what should have been an outdoor timed run.
