Exactly! The school definitely has some great tradition!
Some of you keep confusing what coaches can do and what players can do. Pay no mind to quiet periods and dead periods or any other coach rules - unless you are patiently holding your breath for the phone to ring and then you won't hear from them until after July 1st after junior year.

Players can contact any coach at any time they like at any age. Once in contact, the coach can make an offer. Could offer a 7th grader if they so desired and I do believe USC offered a 7th grade quarterback a year or so ago.

Don't be confused by verbals or what not. Don't verbal unless you are "committed." If you verbal, it should be treated the same as a committment unless something extraordinary happens - e.g., coach leaves the program, etc.
ClevelandDad, your are right on many are confused about this. We where, I know when we went thru the process. I remember sitting at the Area Code try-outs and seeing many Coaches that where recruiting my son but not knowing whether to have my son go and talk to them or not. After the try-out I told my son to just go and say hello and see what happens. In all cases they said they where glad he came to talk. I guess they cannot start the conversation but if it is initiated by the player then they can talk with them.

Technically, not really in all cases.

Before July 1 heading into junior year, coach cannot say anything much more than, "Hi!" Even if approached by player. Most will politely say a little more, but not a whole lot more...other (coaches from other schools) eyes and ears are watching and listening.

If the player calls the coach on the phone before July 1, a long conversation can happen including an offer of scholarship...verbally.

After July 1, coach can carry on a conversation initiated by himself or the player...but only if event is over. If event is not over, then the "Hi!" rule applies.

...unless you are on his campus. Then he can talk all day long. Smile

While there is nothing better than seeing your son and/or daughter fulfill a dream such as was mentioned by an earlier poster, I can only imagine that having two kids playing at the next level at a quality University together, can be nothing short of a "Dream come true" for the parents.

Congratulations and good luck!

Thanks Coach, and everyone, for the nice words. And Mikamom.. The baseball teams will meet up in May at your place and the basketball teams (both doing well) in a couple of weeks at our place. I am certain that this thread will produce another Horizon League player or two.. Also, looks like the league championships are in Dayton this year. Hope to see you there. Smile

Congrats to your son scscooter! If he's who I think he is (S.G?), your son is a stud. My kid's HS played against your son's HS team at USD a few weeks ago. I agree with Playfair, great decision. My son's best friend signed his NLI with USD and will be there next year. Take care of your boy's arm...and welcome to the HSBBWeb!
