I should probably put this somewhere else but Chuckie Fick was called up to AAA and will make his first start tonight. Way to go Chuckie !!!
I think another HSBBWer's son was called up also but can't tell from the web site as both of their numbers are not posted on the AA or AAA site.
I personally am still mourning the fact that son didn't get drafted but he's done everything he can to make the best out of a dissappointing situation. He's just finished his first full year as an assistant pitching coach at a division I college. Players love him and he's doing really well (except for the pay).
Interesting to note: There was a pitcher on my son's college team that just did not seem to have what it took to play D-1. After 2 years of not-very-good outings, he left and transferred to a D-2 where he had an average 2 years at best. Kid just got drafted.

Sam Fuld 5'9 175lbs from NH played center field for the Cubs last year (now in AAA) Scouts found him just fine in NH even though his HS team played only 18 games and he played Legion ball instead of travel, at least as he tells it. Went to Stanford before signing.
It appears Sam Fuld has found a home in Tampa. It was the Sam Fuld Show last night at Fenway Park as he went 4-6, scoring 3 with 3 RBI. The guy plays real hard.

It would safe to say this happens at all levels of baseball starting from LL thru HS and beyond. The only difference is when the parents run into that baseball dead end and it's ime to move on.
At what point does "projectability" come in?
1. Am I right in saying the word "projectable" is used almost exclusively for HS and JC guys and probably not at all for juniors and seniors in college?
2. When they say projectable, what do they mean? For example, are they saying that a 6'3" 170 lb. righty pitcher has more potential than a 5'10"guy throwing the same speed because he has more room to fill out?
3. If you are have alot of upside or projectability, where does the line stop as far as a HS player and the draft? 85 mph? 87?
If you are a highly projectable guy in HS throwing 85, assuming you had the offspeed, would that be enough to get you a late round "flyer" pick?
I'm just wondering how far the word "projectable" stretches.

1. No, but there's less projectability left in most cases.
2. That is a part of it, but they are also looking at arm action, etc.
3. There isn't a hard line but I find it hard to believe that a HS rhp would be considered to have enough projectability to overcome an 85 mph fastball unless they were 6'8" and obviously had a ton of room for mechanics improvements.
Finally, maybe but pretty unlikely for a lefty but almost certainly not for a righty. There's no hard and fast rule and it depends on the scouts and the organization and just how projectable a player is, but 85 is not much in the world of pro baseball.
The rule of thumb is still 90 mph for a rhp and even then there has to be some projectability.

Not only has Sam Fuld found a new home in Tampa, he is soon beoming a super hero. Blue Sam Fuld Super Hero Capes will be given out May 29 to the first 10,000 fans 14u to enter the Trop. (Was originally a Manny Ramirez bobblehead night--Oh well)
I wish him all the best. It seems that several on this website have beeen aware of him for awhile, and I certainly respect everything people have posted in addition to what we have seen recently.
May the baseball forces be on him! We're gonna need it this year.

i watched him play legion ball, he was head and shoulders above everyone else. what a great person as well.
the thing that alway's amazed me. he works harder than anyone i've ever seen, and he was drafted in the 10th round. just goes to show you how difficult a path it is.
he's going to do just fine in his baseball life. who else has a cape night?
