It seems these recruited walkons got the AX pretty fast. I wonder if the coach invited extra recuited walkons? And I wonder if other coaches are doing this in the fall, or if this will be a trend.

Would anyone here feel comfortable being asked to be a recruited walk on?
agree they got the ax fast, but strongly disagree with the previous accessment:

"It is a fine institution" ok
"good baseball program" very doubtful
"highly regarded coaches" by whom? again, very doubtful

the situation you described would not happen in a truly good baseball program w/highly regarded coaches - neither recruited walk-ons nor scholly players are treated like that

My daughter's college softball team works out at 5:30am so they don't have to do it after practice when they would be tired or in the evening when they should be doing homework.

My son's high school team has workouts at 5:30am so it doesn't interfere with other sports afternoon practices in the fall and winter. These offseason workouts are voluntary, especially for athletes playing other sports. But I told my son don't consider them voluntary. You'll find out how wrong you were in the spring if you skip them.

In neither case is it about discipline and control. It's about effective scheduling.

Agreed.

If I am REALLY understanding Tripledad's point, it's with the example he heard (from parents Roll Eyes) these recruitied walk ons got the ax very quickly before practice began for being late to 5:30 practice, missing study hall and drinking. So with that in mind, the question was...would anyone want to take a chance to be a recruited walk on?

Answer: Not with that coach.
