That's bad, but, no the worst call ever was the catcher blocking the plate call on the Texas Rangers' catcher just moments ago.  Angles runner makes a clean slide into the plate with nearly no contact, is clearly tagged out by some distance, and the catcher pulled out of the way of contact while tagging him on a throw from the pitcher between 3rd and home.

runner was safe by rule, not by a call.

Too bad I deleted it but I could have shown you a picture of my daughter's team losing in the Super Sectional on a play similar.  Only difference is that in the background is the umpire looking at the runner headed to second as the runner's foot hits first base.  Then, umpire calls batter/runner out at first to end the game.  I forget which paper posted that picture but it was in one of the local papers.  I asked for a copy but then deleted it as the daughter and I moved on from HS.

And of course you are right.  I still can't believe that call.

I LOVED that call! Yes, I'm a lon-standing Royals fan who used to live across the street from the stadium. I'm not in denial (it was, in my opinion, the worst call of all time). However, I could go through my breakdown of the inning to show that a run would have scored anyway. (maybe I am in denial)

We actually had one in a high school football game that was unbelievable. We were on defense and an offensive player jumped. Side official threw his flag and jogged in a few yards to report. Referee said something about "sideline warning?" And the side official said yes! Our coaches were actually pretty calm at that point. LOL Guess what it got ugly quick after that!

I remember a UCLA-Nebraska game in the late eighties where a UCLA db intercepted the ball while diving, did a somersault on the field and got up and walked 50 yards to the endzone, all the time high fiving players. he even bumped shoulders with a Cornhusker or two who pushed him away in disgust. Ref signaled TD when he got to the endzone.
