finally have a game scheduled this afternoon at lakepoint...I agree this is probably a little bit too large of a tournament to logistically accommodate all the teams in the event of weather interruptions.  Did get the chance to go down to Ft Benning to check out the infantry museum, but with that said, hit multiple traffic jams...cant wait to get back up to Jersey to experience traffic jams that actually make sense...the ones around here, well lets just say i can't figure them out...  Looking forward to good weather from here on out.

BTW, whats the website where i can track the exit velos, stats, and plays online at lakepoint?

It's called DiamondKast and it's a proprietary PG tool. You have to pay for it...haha

News is that your Govenor closed down the state of NJ for the weekend.

So I suppose that you are better off being in Hotlanta for the holiday weekend!

lol...freakin politics...haven't had time to check out the state news because i've been tied to watching the weather here in atlanta for the past few days.

I can understand the frustration, I have been to at least 7 WWBA and countless other Perfect Game tourney's. I can tell you that the PG folks are doing all they can.  No one can control the weather. IF the field of teams were smaller then I would be reading posts about how a team was not able to play in the tourney and complaining about the criteria used to let teams in.

I agree, 382 is a ton of teams and maybe a regional idea will be considered.

I also know that for 2018's that are uncommitted it can be stressful but to think that you are going to be discovered at this point and if you do not get a game at LP you will not be discovered is incorrect.  In some rare cases players can be discovered.

A better approach to recruiting is to get an early eval of your abilities.  Use your high school and travel coach to build relationships with schools at the level you can play at.  Inform those RC's that are interested in you that your team will be at WWBA and keep them updated as best you can. If the RC's are interested in you they will travel from field to field to see you.

Honestly, most of the power 5 conference teams are done recruiting the 2018 class. IF you are looking for a school , the best bet is to look locally in your area.  If you are looking for a mid-major, some of these schools are not fully funded, and usually take in-state and juco players.

NAIA and D2 take a lot of JUCO's ..... Juco's do a lot of word of mouth recruiting due to the small travel budgets they have. Thus the travel coach and high school coach are important.

While there are a ton of schools at WWBA, if you are not on their short list of players the RC's do not have the time to discover players. They are affirming players they want to recruit.

Good luck to all,

I have to agree with you on some points. If you went for someone looking to find you, chances are its not going to happen.

Son coaches at D2, and he is absolutely there looking for 2018s that slipped through the cracks, and watching recruits that had contacted him either by a coach or the recruit. All level coaches do work together on recommending recruits. However, the better D2 coaches do spend money on Juco and D1 players looking for more playing time.

If they give a preponderance of the games at LP to clubs that are big names, you are screwed. One team had 3 LP games scheduled during pool play. Some of these fields are an hour from LP.

The size of the tournament has very little bearing on what is happening.  We rent as many fields as we need so if we had half the number of teams we would have half as many fields.  Sometimes we can get extra fields at the last minute, but it isn't easy.

We expect people to be frustrated when these things happen.  Teams are here to play and that is what everyone, especially PG, wants.  If you think you are being treated unfairly just email staff@perfectgame and tell us what you're concerns are.  I am the only person associated with PG that responds here at the HSBBW.

I understand the frustration, but often it gets to be a bit of piling on.  I mean I read some posts that make me think we have never done anything correctly.  Bad guns, bad scouts, bad information, bad technology, only care about money, bad umpires, you name it we are bad at it.  Go tell that to the college coaches you run across and see how well it works.

I also understand that we are not alone when it comes to receiving the wrath.  I read about the heat in Arizona, teams not playing on the featured field, and all the complaints.  My suggestion to the many that bitch constantly about everything... Give up baseball because you will drive yourself crazy over time.  I once spent thousands of dollars taking my family to see our son pitch in Yankee Stadium.  Game rained out, last game of the series, make up later in the year, team went on the road.  Was that totally frustrating?  Of course!  What did the Yankees or MLB do about it? Nothing!  How much bitching did I do?  None, because I have been around long enough to know these things can and do happen.

Sandiegorealist,

If you are from San Diego, maybe the weather in Georgia is kind of confusing.  But you might want to change the realist part of your user name.  Just kidding, I feel your pain in this case.  But your head would spin if you could see what our people are doing nearly around the clock to make the tournament as good as possible.  I hope you feel a bit differently as the tournament goes on. Hopefully you will see something you like.

For what it's worth, we played a game this morning at a field about 1/2 hour away from LP. There were tons of scouts there. Didn't matter that much to us; they were there looking at the 8 or 9 D1 commits on the team we were playing. They are a "big name" team. None of their games so far have been at LP.

But just wanted to point out that scouts DO go to fields other than LP. Although I get it, especially if you've traveled out of state. LP is an awesome place to play and watch baseball.

Hopefully the rest of the week will be better.  I understand the frustration everyone feels.  believe me it is also very frustrating for us.  This same tournament several years ago had less than half as many teams, but even more rain.  Teams had been here for 3 or 4 days before playing a game.  It's never an enjoyable experience when things like this happen.  We got through that one and hopefully the weather gets better and everyone has a good experience.

This tournament is too large, too many teams, to hold in one location during one week. Teams only know "today's" games and are still in a holding pattern over the rest of the week. To have to travel 45 minutes to an hour plus to get to a field, in Atlanta traffic no less, should tell you that there are far too many teams in this event and others like it.

Welcome to Atlanta. A 45 minute trip is not a big deal here. We do it every weekend during the season.

Very true!!!!!  I posted last night that I'm in FT Myers and it's raining and out game is an hour away from where we are staying, so I feel at home :-).

P.S. My commute is 1.5 hours each way.  Atlanta traffic is almost as bad as LA traffic, and worse at times, but if you want one field close to home that would be a tourney with 10 teams tops.  PG is a cool experience, the good and the bad it is still a cool experience when you play teams from 500+ miles away or more.

PG Staff, trust me I know you cannot control the weather and that I have been critical of a few (ok, many) things related to perfect game tournament and the seemingly endless need to process a credit card or open a wallet as it relates to PG events. I guess I will ask you again: Why is there a need to charge parents a gate entry fee at a high school baseball field? We actually got a game in today after a 1.5 hour rain delay. So...I am becoming a happier camper. I know real estate is cheaper where there are mosquitos and rattle snakes (southeast in general and Arizona in general) but man, can someone please figure out a way to host these events in LA, Orange County or San Diego County? These extreme weather condition could be avoided easily if you just play in Southern California.

PG Staff, I know your crew is probably trying their best and I took a few shots out of frustration, but the $$$ complaints is very real. I spoke with many families of the team that we played today who were also of the same opinion. We had time to kill with a long rain delay.

I drive a small car and my kids get a front yard, back yard, and friends up and down the block to play with.  I'm good, let's all just be thankful for audio books, it keeps the road rage WAY down ;-)

I'm with CaCo here... I commute 15 miles one way everyday and morning is an easy hour+ and evenings are just as bad, but I work late to cut it down to usually only 30+ minutes

I get to work at 7am, leave at 3:30pm....adaptations must be made for Atlanta traffic. Everyone be thankful school is out, that adds another 30 minutes.
