My '06 received and attended a Junior day invitation to a Pac10 program last spring.

Never heard another word from them. Never got a call on July 1 or any day after that. They didn't even reply to any emails we sent.

At the last moment he decided to attend their 2 day prospect camp. They seemed to show interest in all the players except they did say to him to come by the office some time and get some tickets to a football game when the season starts.

He sent some emails after the camp reiterating his interest in the program but no response from the coaches. They never made contact after the camp either.

At the end of August when he returned home from a well deserved 2 week vacation he called the coach. He actually talked to the head coach this time and set up an appointment to meet. He primarily wanted to get feedback from the prospect camp to see where he needed to improve his skills.

I went with him to the appointment but sat in the lobby as he met the coach. I figured he'd be in and out in 5 minutes. After 20 minutes they emerge and they start to talk with the assistant coaches.

He came out of the meeting with an Official Visit for September 17th.

He finished his 2 day visit today and they offered him a athletic scholarship.

He verbally committed to Fall 2006.

It just goes to show you that you never know what is going on with the recruiting process. Maybe he was always on their radar. Maybe they saw something at the prospect camp.

One day I might ask the coach how it all came about but maybe I should just be happy with the outcome. But I sure would like to know just because it is so darn baffling on this side of the recruiting journey.

Baseballtoday - A great story! Congratulations to your young man!

My '05 had a top choice that never made an offer. He decided to attend JUCO and actually switched JUCOs at the end of the summer. In writing to some schools that had previously called to notify them where he was going to hang his hat this year, he included this particular school. I laughed at this initially because he just won't "let it go". After reading your post, I guess that can be a good thing! Smile

Congratulations again on raising such a mature young man.
