Your Hobbies/Interests?

I like to grill. Always have, and it is something that my son likes to do also. I think one of my gifts to him when he graduates this spring is a weber kettle to take to college that he can grill, also. Funny, he asked the coach if he could bring one down when he was on his visit.

He didnt play football, so I volunteered to work the grill at the concession stand at the varsity football games. Had a blast. Starting to get into smoking meat, also.

When the kids were little, I liked working in the yard and having nice green grass, and such. As they got older, I didnt have time. I think when they get older, I will get back into that. Supposedly, our town is supposed to start work on a new park with about 8 fields. I might see about getting on there as a part time groundskeeper whenever they complete it. A big pet peeve of mine when coaching was poorly maintained fields.

Good for you, I give you a grade of A on that choice!

I like gardening, cooking, fishing and many other things, but I don't have much time for any of them because of my #1 hobby, which is baseball.

Very witty TPM! Mizzou, I really enjoy grilling also, however I must admit I'm a cheater because my grill is plumbed for gas, no mesquite wood for me.... I finally think I mastered the art of rotisserie-grilled whole chicken - mmm, rubbed liberally with a homemade fresh herb, garlic and butter mix.

Thank you Floridafan!! I admit, working with succulents, and vertical gardening in general is quickly becoming an obsession for me. If you are considering making a panel, send me PM, as I've learned a lot about what works, and could give you some good tips.

I have an almost two year old Italian Water dog Luca.He is quite a dude.

I started attending classe with him when he was 4 months old.We are wroking on rally and Freestyle.

Had our first rally match last Saturday.

Lots of fun.

Working out and athletic training are my two biggest hobbies. Yes, my job is also a major hobby of mine. It is my passion and I love pediatric sports medicine as many of you are aware. It is fully who I am.

MizzouBaseball, I don't believe you are very good at grilling. In fact, I think I could come over and test some of your offerings and make suggestions (after a few brats, porksteaks, ...) as to how you can improve grilling. I'm on the east side, let me know when you want to take your grilling to the next level!!!

I forgot to add that my hobby is golfing. I am the head coach of our girl's golf team. I sometimes get too in to it. It is not uncommon for me to golf 36 in a day.

I used to fish a lot with my dad when I was a kid, and we were good at it. Kinda stopped, but took my kids a few times, but I turned into an amatuer, and the fish don't seem to like my offerings. However, a few years ago we vacationed over New Years in Orlando and me and my older son took a guided fishing boat out on the Disney property waterways. Pouring rain, and we absolutely killed it reeling in 3 - 5 lb. catch and release smallmouths in pouring rain.

Hey, I want to get your dad out there someday. We talked about it a lot but have never done so. Per coaching, what would I do if they didn't let me coach something? In golf, I can coach the sport, have some fun and still get to see my girl play in college in the spring. I guess for me, coaching is my top hobby.

Your garden pictures are awesome like2rake and I too assumed your moniker was about baseball - perhaps a double entendre?

I grew up in the country so hunting and fishing are in the blood although I rarely get to hunt anymore. Like most people, I like to travel to places like Mexico. I like swimming in the Gulf Of Mexico because the water is so clear and you can see sharks coming from long distances

Recently, I've renewed my childhood interests in model rockets. It is something that my grandson likes to do as well. In honor of Neil Armstrong, I've been building a model Saturn V and it is most enjoyable. I'll try and post some pictures of it here when I get it completed.

I don't have a hobby but after reading this thread I might start one.

I aspire to have a future hobby that my wife and I can enjoy such as the ones you've mentioned .

At this point in my life, I'm able to do some hobby type things out of convenience. There is so little time between work, and our kids that it is extremely difficult. At best, I travel on business therefore I have access to some things that interest me (such as Civil War battlefields in VA & MD, historical sites, bourbon distilleries in KY, and mid-week college baseball games on the East coast).

During the weekends, my wife and I play tennis year round. My wife has also got involved in tri-athlons. But our hobbies and discretionary time is spent on the kids, house or reading. I look forward to the day where I can get back to something I loved as a kid such as painting with chalks, oil or water colors. During baseball season, we have no time for hobbies but I'm not complaining. I love to watch my kids play baseball.

I love history. My passion is as a relic hunter/metal detectorist. Hunting for coins, buttons, military items (on private property of course)...thus my username "SCdigger". Have walked fields looking for arrowheads for about 36 years (since I was 8 growing up in Alabama). Also, a bit of an amateur film-maker..and so I do videos and dvd's of my hunts...kind of like deer hunting or fishing videos/tv shows.

My first would be coaching baseball, playing softball, then squeezing in some flats fishing, going out in the woods with my boys, golf, shooting guns with the kids anything that gets me out of yard work..lol

My kids love Pawn Stars and "Chumley" has become "the saying" in our house for someone who is intellectually challenged. Every time I come home from something the kids are watching "Pawn Stars".

BTW...I love the History Channel. I've been tuning into "The Men Who Made America" series. It is really good, if you haven't seen it. The last espisode has been moved to 11/11 but it will be run again.

When I stopped playing baseball I started whitewater kayaking. I was instantly addicted. I got pretty good pretty quick. But just like with baseball the more reps you take the more prepared you are for different situations. The difference is that a slip up on Class V, whitewater will kill you. Slip up on the field will go in the book as an E6.

I've always had this thought process, be it in baseball, or business, or whitewater, that I wanted the best people around me. I know I'm good and prepared so if the people around me are EVEN better then me, then we should make an awesome team! So I'm constantly searching for better paddlers to get run rivers with. Sometimes that means young hot shot high school or college kids. Sometimes that means "old timers" that own kayaks older then me.

Like any hobby the friends you make are as important as the actual hobby. Now, I'm known as the kayaker to all my "baseball" friends, and known as the baseball guy to all of my "kayaker" friends. I'll take that.

I used to get 150+ days on Class III to V whitewater every year. Fewer days now. Some of the more notable rivers I've run include the Upper Gauley (WV), New River Gorge (WV), Upper & Top Yough (Friendsville, MD), Chattooga Section IV & Tallulah Gorge (last 2 where Deliverance was filmed), Big Sandy (WV), Gore Canyon on Colorado, and my home river the James River in Richmond, Va can be as big and intense as any river during a flood.

Any other paddlers on here?

Last couple of years father in law got me and the boys into hunting. We try and go out a few times a year and camp out with bunch of the fellas. Its turned into something that I will do with my boys every year from here on out.

What beautiful panels! I'll have to send your link to my husband. It might be something he would like to try. He is the gardener in the family. I just eat what comes out of the garden.

My hobbies are genealogy and photography. Now that my son has moved onto college, I started going to cross country meets and taking pictures to post for the runners. The son of a friend is a H.S. freshman and finished 19th in the Regional meet. He is now moving into the indoor track season. I'm looking forward to four years of taking pictures of XC and track meets. Much easier to wander around taking pictures when your own child isn't competing.

SCdigger I am with you. Love civil war history ( confederate). I live in Wisconsin so I don't get to metal detect for relics but do a lot of coin shooting. In the winter I ice fish as much as I can.

Hey CD...over the last 6 years, I've been approached by no less than 15 different producers...some credible, some not so much...however EVERYONE wanted to play off the success of Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Antique Roadshow, Storage Wars...etc. Get rich quick...looks at this "treasure" we can dig out of the ground. We have a phrase we use a lot, "passion over profit". My perspective is that our history should not be for sale. Thus I don't sell stuff I dig. I figured I'd just keep doing my own videos/dvd's and that way I can keep control of the message rather than selling out to the masses just to make a little money!!!

I've done a fair amount of paddling, but not whitewater. Primarily in bays, estuaries. I'm really itching to buy a kayak, as I just rent-by-the-day. I developed pretty significant physical disability in my late 30's, and I was looking for ways to maintain outdoorsy activities since I could no longer ski, jog, bike, etc, and I discovered paddling. I need a little assistance to get into the water/kayak, but once I'm in I'm golden. There are protected coves in Central California with absolutely no surf, which allowed me to get into/out of the water for some pretty tame, but very fun ocean kayaking

Wow, I am beyond impressed with the things that some of you are doing or have accomplished. like2rake - I told my wife when we got married that I would never be a gardner. Your panels make me want to go back on my word. TrojanSkipper - I love to read and I like to write. I've started a few books but haven't finished one yet. Great job and I'll absolutely read the Eric the Great one. Fenwaysouth - head down to Chickamauga, GA - home of the largest national military park in the nation. If you love the Civil War, you won't be sorry.

As for me, for at least 3 more months I'll continue to operate the kid's taxi service. After that, I hope to be able to write more and get back on the golf course. But, until then, I am absolutely satisfied watching my kid's baseball and basketball games.

Outside of watching sports I kayak, bike, play basketball and ski. These things keep me out of the gym which I've always found tedious. I have memberships to three museums (MFA, PEM, Gardner). I split season tickets to the Boston Symphony Orchestra. I get to Lincoln Center for at least two operas per season plus there are simulcasts at AMC Theatres. On Saturday night I'm often where jazz or blues is playing after dining out. One hobby is finding the quaint lesser known dining spots. I also read.

I've gone through the Civil War and American parks thing. My next curiosity is England. And as soon as the political dust settles I'll be looking to see what direction two losing candidates take (they've won before) to decide where to get involved. When I spent 50 hours moving dirt in my yard last summer I didn't see it as a hobby. It was exercise.

Me? Since I can't afford any of what RJM does for a hobby I just follow him around here on the HSBBW and read wistfully, in a good way, what he's been up to. And RJM, please, oh please, tell me your kayak is crimson. It's my wistful color for a kayak!

I still spend a good bit of time down at the local youth field. When my son was coming along I noticed: (1) that it took most youth coaches several years to figure out what they were doing, and (2) most of them walk away after their kids age out. I decided then that I was going to stick with it after my son moved on. The guys that run the local league have been kind enough to continue to allow me to help out when I can. Beyond that it's growing tomatoes, hostas and heuchera. If those dogs ever die I'm gonna have a heck of a back yard!

Used to play basketball until age 40 when my legs went down when i tried to go up. Now I just throw BP, hit fungos, and sit on the bucket to catch bull pens. To relax, I turn up my amp when nobody is home and hack around on my telecaster or build things around the house. My son and I are also Pawn Stars, American Restoration, Storage Wars, and American Picker fans. How weird is that. We are big Chumley groupies as well. I keep telling my wife that I am getting a vintage motorcycle the day my daughter graduates from college (2021). I am also trying to perfect baby back ribs. I have the cooking method down, but I want to start making my own sauce.
