It was also great day for Morris playing in his old hometown. As you said, the atmosphere was very collegial between the Cowboy and Jaguar players. A lot of friends there.
There were lots of great plays in the game on both sides, and some not so great plays as well. However, IMHO, two perhaps unsung difference makers were two good Cowboy defensive plays throwing runners thrown out at 3rd base. Good pitcher working holding a runner on and a good throw and catch caught a very fast runner base steal attempt out at 3rd. On a big extra inning hit, good throws from the outfield thru the 2nd baseman to 3rd caught another fast runner out trying to make a triple. In both cases there were less than two outs.

Thanks for the info!

Big week...the Cowboys look to have locked up 1st place, but the remaining 3 playoff spots and seeding are up for grabs.

The schedule this week:

Carroll (@ SLC Tues) vs Coppell (@ Coppell Fri)
FM (@ FM Tues) vs Hebron (@ Hebron Fri)
Lewisville (@ Lville Tues) vs Marcus (@ Marcus Fri)

SLC, FM, Marcus and Hebron...only 3 will make it and the seeding is certainly important. Only 6 district games left to get it done.

Coppell beats Southlake 7-5 in 9 innings.

Hebron just beat Flower Mound 7-2 to get back in the hunt.

Coppell is the District 6-5A Champion with 5 games to go, congratulations Cowboys!!!!
Hebron 7 12 2
Flower Mound 2 3 4

Individual Pitching / Hitting
2B--HEB: John Allen 1. HEB: Erin McCarver 1.
WP--Jon McManemin
LP--Noah Ringenberger
HR--FM: Collin Ashley 1.

I saw the FM/Hebron game. FM was never in it....more errors than hits. Nice pitching by McManemin. It should be interesting to see who places 2-4. Tight race to the finish with SL, Marcus, and FM all tied for 2nd and Hebron just one game back from the pack. Congrats to Coppell for running away with the district!

SLC/Coppell game was a good one. 3-3 going to 7th...both teams got a run and go to extras tied 4-4. Both teams had good scoring opps in the 8th but neither could get a run across. Coppell scored 3 in the top of the 9th with a couple of SLC miscues contributing. SLC got 1 in the bottom resulting in the 7-5 final. Tough loss for SLC as the battle for the 2nd-4th playoff spots are most probably going to come down to head to head results between SLC, FM, Marcus and Hebron.
The very unfortunate thing is that for many, "class" went out the window with the proliferation of travel/select baseball, hockey, volleyball, s****r, etc. Those folks think they know more than the coach and their kid is better than the rest.

Every person on this site has seen, heard or been "one of those guys or gals" who stand outside the fence of a game, maybe drifting back a little bit, chirping about how bad the coach is, or worse yet, to call a player out by name!

For those who think this is not widespread get your head out of the sand. For those of you who run the organizations, you know THAT dad (or mom!) and have probably walked away from their son because of the cancer they spread.

We CHOOSE to involve our kids in activities at our high schools and we CHOOSE to pay for them to play for the DBats, Mustangs, Tigers, etc. It is not a right given to moms and dads to question those whom we CHOOSE to play for, whether it be HS or summer ball.

Coaches get to coach
Players get to play
Parents should enjoy the moment and cheer. Ask any 2008 grad parent if they had to do it over again would they have tried to enjoy the moment a little more and worry about tomorrow less?

If you don't like where you are, change it. If you can't change it, deal with it.

Top Shelf,

I agree with you. They just seem a little off and there is no real stick that stirs....yet. But don't let the 6 L's fool you, they are "better than that".

QUOTE]

It now appears that Coppell might have several STICKS that are stirring the pot. Morris scored like 8 straight times he got on base. Last night he made two great plays early to keep the score at 2-2. Now is seems that a hit can come from anywhere int he line-up and the team average is going up, Kettler went yard and J Walsh continues to "do a job" every time he is asked. The chemistry I thought they had is real and really there and they refuse to lose. The last 3 wins have been come from behind efforts...

As for 2 through 4, it looks like FM and Marcus to me with the 4th spot leaning towards SL but never count Coach Stone the the HAWKS out but they do have to win out to get in.

With 1st place locked up, is English going to use the next four district games to strengthen and battle test his bullpen? The playoffs are are long road, especially if you can't close each round out in two games.

6-5A is really not a strong hitting district, but Coppell has had some close ones. Lot of pressure on the offense to keep posting 8 or 9 runs every game.

Nfieldguy, I would say that sounds like a contradiction. If the offense is posting 8-9 runs per game in order to win maybe it is the defense that is not strong in 6-5A and not the hitting. I have seen good hitting in the 6-5A contests I have witnessed. However, most games were lost due to poor defense or one defensive breakdown inning. It will be interesting to see how 6-5A stacks up to the other districts once playoffs start. The only team in the district who seems to be playing consistently well is Coppell.

Last night the 2 - Lefty - looked great and throw a complete game. Monday, 3 pitchers worked to get the win. Early in the season the pitching lead the team a long way towards the goal, now the offense is starting to heat up ( not that they weren't doing well just not as well as everyone expected...even themselves). As for pressure on the offense, there were no games that they "needed" to score 8 or 9, they did score 8 to win once 8-6 and once they scored 9 to win 9 - 6, so they needed 7 to win. The team averages 6.12 runs a game and that is going up, so there isn't alot of pressure to score 7.

The rotation is fine and I am sure Coach English will use the 3 games left to fine tune the team but I think it might be just as valuable to continue the momentum of the 12 game winning streak going into the playoffs.

And don't count out the rest of the "light" hitting 6-5A in the playoffs.
NFG - the word I used is fine because I don't want to project personal feelings into the evaluation. I know these boys personally and well so I might see more than most people.

There is still a chance for some improvement too.

As for watching them play, it is fun, very fun.

Round Rock is the goal, has always been the goal but I realize a lot of things can still go wrong and many other team will have a say in the outcome.

But lately the refuse to lose mentality is apparent in this team and building. That is one of those character traits that Champions seem to have in most years.

So Flower Mound is on a roll, the team they face in round one will face a challenge.

Even though FM Marcus didn't show-up tonight against Coppell ( Coppell 13-0 , 10 run rule), they most likely are in, FD will have them ready to play in the playoffs.

But do I have this right if Heron beats Southlake tomorrow they actually will be in the playoffs?

Even at .500 and below in District, the Hawks will be ready to play IF they get in, as for Southlake....it is a "city of champions" and might have earned the title from Duncanville.

And Hermans looked great tonight with a two hit 5 inning shut-out, I think he had 10+ K's but I didn't keep the book and that is after the great effort Apple but in on Tuesday. Looking good for a playoff run.
Well, with the Friday night district results in, FM over Coppell 4-0 (great 1-hit shutout) and FM Marcus over Hebron 2-1, heres how District 6-5A matches up against District 5-5A in the playoffs:

Coppell (1st Seed-6-5A) vs Grapevine (4th Seed-5-5A)
FM (2nd Seed-6-5A) vs Keller (3rd Seed-5-5A)
FM Marcus (3rd Seed-6-5A) vs Keller Fossil Ridge (2nd Seed-5-5A)
Southlake (4th Seed-6-5A) vs Colleyville (1st Seed-5-5A)

These should be good match ups but IMHO I believe Coppell, FM and FM Marcus will squeak by to the next round.

Any other fearless predictions?
As projected by many, District 6-5A has proven to be one of the toughest in the state. Only one other district in the state can say that three teams advanced to the Regional Quarter-Finals and two teams advanced to the Regional Semi-Finals, and that was District 14-5A (Lufkin and College Park Woodlands).

In addition, all teams except Rowlett have been eliminated from the last DMN ranking poll dated 4/26. The only 6-5A team that was ranked was Coppell who fell to GV in round one of the playoffs. Most would say this was a major upset.

Time will tell but the 6-5A teams left (Flower Mound and Flower Mound Marcus) have played through some tough district play and most would argue that these schedules (and a little luck) have prepared them for the tough playoff run.

Preseason and in-season rankings may suffer due to the "inter-district" play but the prize is winning in the playoffs. When you play tough district schedules your early season rankings will suffer.

Best of luck to all the remaining Metroplex teams. We hope to see all of you at the top!!

5A - Flower Mound, Flower Mound Marcus and Rowlett
4A - FW Arlington Heights, McKinney North, Rockwall-Heath
