Ok just a survey here. About a year ago I asked what age and velo did your son first get recruited and got extremely valuable insights. This is slightly different. If pitchers parents could take a second or two please give requested info. Example:

freshman. 5'10". 160. 77

soph 6'0". 175   81

junior. 6'1".  180.  84

senior. 6'1". 190.  86

only high school years please. However if your son has completed only one or two years of high school please weigh in!  Does not have to be a complete set of four years. Thanks in advance this type of info is always extremely beneficial.

Using Spring as the relevant time (at these ages there could be a 15+ pound difference between September and May -- I know there was last year with my son):

Freshman 5'11" 155  81

Sophomore 6'1" 175  86 -- OK, OK, I'm making that one up -- he just started sophomore year, LOL -- I got nothing for you beyond freshman year!

You can't control height. You sometimes can't control weight. You can control training and strength development. You can control baseball development. What is the point of threads like this? Is it to brag your kid is bigger and taller? Is it to figure out if your kid fits in? It's going to come down to talent and attitude regardless of size.

Not being the OP, I'd guess the point is just fun. Interesting to see the progression other kids have made over their high school years, and to see the correlation between height/weight and velocity. Just fun. Or is that not allowed on this board?

We were just trolling you.  You actually stayed out longer than we thought.

The numbers he gave up top were fictitious.  I've been trying to get him to consider that big kids can remain roughly the same size and still pick up velo as they grow older...I think this poll may be collecting data regarding that discussion.

No trolling here (I think I am finally figuring out what that even means). Would much prefer the negatives stay away. I love data. And while I know this site may be a poor place for it as about 90% on here are very high level and not representative of the greater pool it is data none the less.  So now the question is do I engage?  Once again a simple question has been answered with a thinly veiled insult by one of the usual suspects. Nah, I think today I will just walk away. Answer the query if you like or take a pass. Entirely up to the reader. Sometimes the nice people I generally talk to simply don't have kids old enough to answer a question. So I come here.  As usual the majority are kind enough to assist and a few will jump to all sorts of conclusions and criticize for the sake of criticism. Thanks to all who have participated thus far. It is helpful to me and I appreciate it.

2020DAD - When you refer to this as "data", it should be taken with a grain of salt (gross understatement).  There will be a general trend between velocity and that of height, weight and "age", or more precisely class (easily of good 12 month range in ages in any given class).  If you are looking for ballpark ranges (pun certainly intended), then this data will give you that.  If you are looking for anything more precise, then you are probably out of luck.

Don't get me wrong, it is fun stuff and we certainly need some more of that here as of late.

It's always fun to read what everyone's son did, but it is pretty much meaningless when it comes to another young person.  What I mean is that for every pitcher that went from 70s to 90s there is another pitcher that went from 70s to 70s.  And those parents aren't likely to be posting their sons results on the HSBBW.

You can watch one young boy throwing 70 and his arm action, arm speed, athleticism, etc., might make you believe he will gain a lot of velocity.  Another young boy throwing 70 might make you wonder how he is able to throw that hard now.

If your son is like the first boy mentioned, velocity will come with size and strength, but there is no formula for how that works.  Comparisons are interesting, but each individual is different.  IMO So much is determined at birth.  Just think how helpful it would be if we knew what our son's true potential was while he was still in diapers.  We have seen kids work so hard for years in order to throw harder, only to see others that haven't worked much at all, throw with a lot more velocity.  Then again, I guess the only way to find out what your potential is, is with a lot of effort and desire, because a person's potential is an unknown.  Most people never even come close to realizing their potential.

Goblue, a lot of high achievers in here so numbers seem about right. And also the picket radars are very accurate if you just clearly understand the misreads. I have had mine next to stalkers and within an mph.  The new ones where you don't have to time pushing the button I imagine are way more accurate.  They just don't have the range and functionality of a stalker and they are plagues by some misreads.  But dont sell them short.

Good topic. Thanks for starting it. As the dad of a 2021, I find this interesting...

I have a similar question as GoBlue, are we talking incoming freshman numbers or numbers during the 2017 spring high school season?

It was my assumption that we are talking about spring HS season.

Agreed.  Let's go with that

TBD! Will let you know in May. :-)
