Okay - it's about that time.

One week to go, 4 way tie at the top and which players are going to step-up? Bayside is making a strong push knocking off Kellam and FC in back-to-back games - would you want to play them in the playoffs?

Who is your all beach picks?

I will start with Player of the Year - My opinion, it will be Shawn M. from Ocean Lakes again....with his two-way talent, it will be hard to keep him out of this spot.

Pitcher of the Year - Ryan Cook from FC - How many 1 to 0 baseball games can you pitch in?

I will let you guys complete the list.

POY - Shawn M. - OL

C- Casey Bryant - OL
1B -
2B -
3B -
SS -
OF -
OF -
OF -
UT -
P - Ryan Cook - FC
P -

In the infield i think it should go

1B Morimondo
2B Reinerth
SS Costen
3B Sandifer or Strenn , either is deserving, whoever doesnt get 3rd base should get utility in my opinion because they are both hitting at least .400 with plenty of key hits for their team.

P Cook, Statsky, Lemaster, or honestly even the kid from green run that has ALL of their wins.

Outfield might just be a toss up
Where are you going to put David Dean if you put Shawn at 1B and someone else at UT??? I'm sure he is deserving as well.

Shawn M. and Ryan C. are the only choices as player of year....and I picked Shawn because he won last year and he has been just as good on the mound and at the bat.

I picked Casey over Tommy because these list are usually based on offensive stats....though, if I'm right, Casey has thrown out about 80 percent of runners against him as well.

I would think 3B goes to Tomchick..

how did you get your stats on those guys hitting .400?? you must have been watching different games than I went too. A lot of guys struggling at the plate this yr.. I believe due to the dominant pitching.
bball lifer, I would not lose any sleep over choosing a third baseman that does not routinely play third as the all district third baseman. Last year, SED elected a second baseman as their all district second basement even though he normally played shortstop. Am sure there are other examples. Gotta keep your options open!

Ready to pick the best 12 players regardless of position?
Best way to pick a team I've seen is pick 3-4 outfielders, 4-5 infielders regardless of position played, 2-3 pitchers and a catcher. You can add a utility and DH if you'd like. This allows for the best infielders (I know, usually SS's) to make the team without giving spots to players who don't even play the position like happened last year in the SED. And why isn't Lambert's name mentioned more?

I really don't like the just pick 12 players idea. Just doesn't seem right.

Kempsville is not in the Top 4 of the district. Kellam is (and is tied for first, right now). And, for the record, I have Zach Smith in the All Beach OF so Kempsville would be represented on my list. The OP asked for opinions and I gave mine. If you disagree with it, fine.

BUT...I get the feeling you either ARE him or KNOW him very well. The Pilot does not publish the player's position with their stats. So, you HAVE to know him personally to know he plays 1B.

Either way, I don't really care. This thread is about opinions. If you want to post his name, please do. Just don't act like you don't know him.
I have to agree with Redbird on this one, no disrespect to anyone who hits over 500 or even 400, but Kellam faces everone's ACE everygame, I would be willing to Bet that Kempsvuille usually faces a #2 or #3 pitcher in a rotation, no disrespect, but Im sure Kellam got COOK, Lemasters or Thomchic, Merimundo, Statsky? I could go on and on, just like FC and OL and Pa, they get everyone's #1

Just to add to the discussion, Landstown faced all of those pitchers as well, with the exception of facing Lemaster twice and not Tomchick when they faced PA.
Honestly, its not a HUGE deal who wins first or second team all beach for 1B, i honestly think it could go either way. The picks are all about statistics anyways, TRUST ME. So whoever can get their stats up the highest will win. They are both good players, along with most of the kids that play ball in the beach district, i just hate how every year there becomes a huge outrage about who made the team or who didnt, like it has been the past couple years at 2nd base. thist will have no bearing on future baseball careers whatsoever, and i just hope that the kids know that.

The reality is that coaches don't know and don't care who faced who. While it provides material for good discussion on here, it doesn't mean that much. With that being said, teams will throw their ace against your team if they play a weaker team later in the week. It really doesn't matter how good your team is if the other team on their schedule is weaker.

My reasoning for the selection had nothing to do with "who faced who" but is based on the results of the player and the team than anything else.

@hellosir, I agree. Making or not making All District has no bearing on their baseball futures.

Hunter Davis started the season at second base and moved to shortstop around the fourth or fifth game. To become first team shortstop the evaluators must look at the body of work of each player who is in contention. This guy has gotten better each game in the field and delivers clutch hit after clutch hit. Break out the score books and let the chips fall where they lie. It is no doubt the players listed on this page are great players and I would never diminish that. It has been a pleasure watching them all play.
Would love to know who the one infield player could possibly be who hasn't had an error this year much less in 2 YEARS. I've seen all the infield players mentioned as candidates make errors and some of them multiple errors this year and I haven't even been to all the games .

El Gato, great call on that statemnt, 1 Beach infielder has not made an error in district play in 2 years but I think he's a lock anyways, but on the other hand, 1 guy has made????? but his batting is average is well above 400, so your right, is there criteria or just batting stats?
Beach Family, I can't comment on the Beach infielders but be careful that you are comparing apples and apples. You said you have not seen a infield player who has not made an error this year. Pilots81 carefully said "has not made an error in district play." One is a subset of the other, his being a narrower set than that to which you refer. BTW, it is possible for an infield player to not have any errors in a year.
