I've been following Erik's story but had not yet posted. Thanking the Lord for his continued recovery!
justbaseball---
I was out of town on a family emergency when I heard about Erik. My heart simply stopped. I'm old enough (and from Cleveland) to remember the chilling photos in the Cleveland Press of Herb Score after his similar "event" on the mound. My heart and prayers go out to your son for his complete recovery---and to you and your family for having to endure the most difficult of anxious moments. Bless you all!

Sending good thoughts and prayers that you son makes a speedy and complete recovery.

We hope to have Mrs. justbaseball home Thursday evening.
Does her "husband" know about this???
Glad to hear he's recovering well. Please keep us posted.
Justbaseball,
I am so sorry to just now learn of Erik's unfortunate event and even more sorry that ya'll have had to suffer through this.
I am glad that the recovery is progressing well. You have lived every pitchers parent's worst nightmare. There is hope for a full recovery though.
3 season's ago, my wife was in attendance at one of my son's High-A series when one of his teammates, Paul Maholm, was struck in a similar fashion. Paul has made a full recovery and is now pitching in the big leagues.
Hoping that Erik's path to recovery will be as smooth and successful.

OPP - Good to see you back and posting a little. So very prould of your son and his huge successes to date.
Beezer - Lets hope not.

YES, Paul Maholm is a great success story after an equally horrendous incident---and we are SO happy to have both him, and Zach here in PirateLand! And if smokky1 is reading, NEITHER one is "overrated!"

Sounds like the host "dad" (and I'm sure the whole family) were exceptionally great support for him. Nice story.
He's home now. So is she (my wife). My universe is once again more or less in balance.
With a few lingering pains (2 surgeries within 2 weeks - totally expected) - and still some swelling - Erik remains in good spirits and is planning his return to the mound almost to the day. His sight in his eye is good but there is more healing left to do.
Gloria and I want to thank you so much for your prayers and kind wishes and thoughts. The two of us having been on two coasts away from parts of our family for a full 2 1/2 weeks, we have been able to spend a lot of time thinking. Thinking about how really good people are - and how ready you were to offer help, kind words, moral support and prayers - all have kept us going. We have always said that we believe in the healing power of prayer - and Erik's amazing recovery thus far is proof. You all did as much for Erik as his doctors did - we are convinced. You all now should channel your healing power on others who need it more - they will truly appreciate it.
We thank you all for being there with us and for us through this whole ordeal. We will never forget all that you have done. If you ever make it to a Stanford game...in California or on the road somewhere...please do make a point to say "hi!"
Best regards,
Tom, Gloria and Erik Davis

That's the magnificent thing about prayer - there's always plenty to go around! I think we will all continue to send prayers up for Erik's continued progress and return to his game.
Keep us posted and we're all truly thankful he's doing so well.
Looks like the prayers have been answered.
2 years to the day since this thread was started he is the winning pitcher in a CWS game.

Exactly two years, is that cool or what?
Erik Davis, coming soon to an MiLB park...and some day an MLB park...near you!

Oh WOW!!!! Thanks so much for tracking this down.
What great Karma!!!!!
Thanks bkekcs for bumping this post!
What an awesome testimony and reminder of the power of prayer. I vividly remember the day Tom posted this being a parent of a pitcher. Although I was still just lurking in those days and not yet posting, I immediately began praying for Erik, and enlisted other prayer warriors to do the same. I was grateful for Tom's updates.
Pure Icing on the Cake to get to watch the CWS, see Erik pitch, get the W, send Miami packing and see Tom too!!!

Man was I confused there for a second (don't take much). This is an awesome story. Sounds like a great family.
Seeing this thread resurrected, and it being two years to the day of the injury...brought similar tears to my eyes once again.
Just awesome!
Beautiful !
Wow! What a story. I hadn't heard about this before.
Congratulations to Erik Davis on his return from disaster.
