My 2021 attended his area code tryout for the Whitesox region today. I' m assuming for the underclass event. He thinks he did well, but now we will be doing the waiting game. Anyone else have experience for what to expect or not to expect?

He had fun, that is what matters I guess. He likes the free t-shirt too.  He said there was not much feedback being given other than he was told he did well by one of the scouts.

How many college coaches and pro scouts in attendence? Did you son have "fun"? Did he learn? Was there any cost?

Bob

There was no cost. He is fairly new to showcase environment,  so his learning curve has been how to stay loose between waiting his turn. There was about 55 players in attendance. Overall probably 25-30 scattered around the ballpark as far as scouts and coaches. They kept their distance for the most part from the players.

He enjoyed it, he chose to this only only off day this week. He was a little sore from pitching this weekend, but tried to put together a solid bullpen. It was 25 pitches.

who else would call the game? This was my policy since 1987. We are looking for "leadership" from the catcher. We do the same when our American team plays the National teams from Japan, Korea, China, Australia. Why not!

Umpires? I was just curious.  Had never been, so this was new.  Very few called strikes at the one we attended after the first 2-3 catchers.  After that it was rare to have a strike if they weren’t swinging.  I didn’t know if it had always been that way or not. Thanks for clarifying.

Was it the NY Yankees AC team? The tryouts were June 10-11-12-13th on the East Coast. Your only expense was travel.

Bob

Yes, but the one most local was on a Tuesday.  I guess I could have gone to the Sunday date, but the email/website was not impressive looking, and not knowing what it was, I didn't give it much thought.  Plus, I'm a Braves fan

Unfortunately, your son missed out on one of the best opportunities available to any high school baseball player who wants to play college or professional baseball. The Area Code MLB teams conduct the tryouts at no charge to the players, or to the hundreds of college coaches who attend. The website isn't great, but it's really only there as a courtesy to the participants. This is not a slick operation. It's just a bunch of MLB scouts finding the best players in their regions and putting them on the field. Lesson learned... ask questions on this forum. Many people here would have implored you to make sure your son attended.

The one went to was called a early identification tryout. It seems it was much smaller than the others. What is the difference between this and the regular tryout?

I'm not familiar with that term. My son attended in 2014. Maybe synonymous with the Underclass Games? Were there any 2019s there? (I'm assuming your 2021 attending this year.)

Darn, wish I asked.  Thanks for the info, hopefully I'll stop kicking myself in the a$$ soon enough.
