.....I also have to mention the nice debut for Just Baseball's Frosh son on Sunday. He came out of the pen and pitched 4.1 strong innings with 6 K's. I had a chance to watch the last two of his innings streaming live. I'm looking forward to seeing TD next weekend, hopefully JBB makes the trip back down from Nor Cal.
I love reading these posts, especially about players/pitchers breaking through or having a great freshman outing.
I don't know Bum's son but he pitched lights out an any "tracker" including "Gametracker."
I do know justbb and his son.
Tyler Davis is going to be a terrific college pitcher.
More than what he does on the baseball field, Tyler is a person filled with a sense of happiness which is contagious. His smile...like his Mom! Big Grin
To sit and talk with him is a delight.
If anyone ever wants to know the meaning of "fit," you only need to talk with Tyler about UW, the campus, academics, baseball, coaches, teammates...I think he mentioned coeds, to know, see and hear "fit."

Congratulations to each and everyone!

Bum, I remember reading about Rusty and the transfer... Good for him!!! It's hard for anyone to be patient this day in age, but an entire season! I know TTU's coaches and fans are excited as well.

My son is a freshman and got in 2.1 innings. He got a no decision, but pitched strong. The coach was pleased. Dad and I are thrilled!
I am exhausted from the weekend - going through and watching D1baseball.com to look for teams and game times, scores, looking up rosters to see which of my son’s friends were playing (or not Frown ) and how they did. Looking for video feeds to catch one of them playing, in between watching my son’s video feed. This whole college baseball stuff is a lot of work.

Thanks. It was a fun weekend.

Also, speaking of UW and Tyler Davis, I have no doubt that Tyler will be a great player just like his brother. Also, I have been on the UW campus and it is spectacular in every way, especially at the top of the hill with the clear view of Mt. Ranier in the distance. Part of what is so much fun about college sports is the chance to see all of these different campuses in so many parts of the country.

Later this year, ASU plays Texas Tech in a mid-week game. Perhaps I will get to see Bum's son in action.

Thanks all for the very kind words on Tyler (and his mom! Big Grin). As his HS coach reminded me last week...now that her "supervision" of the local HS umpires is complete, time for the Pac12 umpires to get reacquainted with her. Eek

Bum and jemaz...so great to read about your sons' opening weekends as well! Wink

One other note...RobKremer's son had a very nice opening weekend for Duke visiting Texas. I know Rob got to enjoy the Longhorn hospitality in person as well.

Looking forward to meeting some of you on the road, perhaps beginning next weekend! Smile

There should be some very good DII action this weekend in Vadosta, Georgia as Sunshine States conference teams meet Gulf South conference teams in a round robin. In a game that really interests me, my son's Delta State team, ranked 13th and 14th in two polls and undefeated will collide with Tampa University who are also undefeated and ranked #1 and #2 in the same two polls. Of course two of my fellow HSBBweb members have outstanding players on Tampa--floridafan and Backstop-17. I won't be able to go to the games but I certainly will be following the action via the Internet broadcast.

Three Bagger - I think I know who your son is, Florida Fan will know for sure. We will keep an eye out for him and if I get a chance, I will shake his hand.

I hope to spend the weekend at the ballpark if the Mrs. will just drop me off. 3 games a day!

I have had this weekend circled since the schedule came out, this should really test all 6 teams. We are excited as our son just got his full release from the DL today after catching for 3 innings a few times over the last week in scrimmages/game.

Looking forward to this trio of great competitive games to get ready for conference action!
Backstop-17,

That's great news about your son's recovery! Here's hoping he'll go on to have a great season. I almost forgot, West Florida is also in the tournament although since they are in our conference we won't play them until later. That's the other #1 or #2 team besides Tampa, so some of the top DII's in one location. I'm pretty sure I know which guy is your son also so I'll be listening for his name on the broadcasts. My son is #3 on Delta State. Here's hoping for some great action and good luck for our players and their teams this weekend!
Here's my torn labrum:

Waiting for more info to see what the prognosis is.

The soonest surgery would be is after the season, I think.

I may have the choice between surgery to save my throwing (would only be able to pitch senior year) or simply choose to never throw and avoid surgery. If that's the case...we'll see which I choose.

If I can't do other things like, say, lift weights (my favorite hobby) without surgery then I'll just get it done.
Radiologist just called my AT and says he sees a rotator cuff tear but not a labrum tear. I hope these people get on the same page soon! Orthopedist says he'll clear everything up on Saturday.

TR, I believe the labrum injury has been a long term thing. Lots of baseball players (one study showed that about 75% do) have labral tears. Lots of them don't have problems and some of them just have a moderate issues that are tempered by rest, rehab, etc. Over the course of a few years now, symptoms that I at first ignored have snowballed to a point where I've had a permanent loss of velocity and never feel 100% healthy on the mound. In HS, I had several unexplained dips in velocity along with shoulder discomfort but we always managed to rehab/rest it away. From late last spring to now, I've been consistently sub-100% and I've lost about 10mph to this point. Now been resting/rehabbing for about 6 weeks to literally no effect.

We'll see from the doctor what the next step is.
JP, I really admire how you and Josh have both handled these set-backs in each of your lives so well. Notwithstanding the injuries, just being removed from the pitching mound in itself has taken its hardest toll for you both. My son was away from the game last year and I saw what all it did to AND for him individually. He had no injury but was himself very close to being away from the game altogether.

I want both of you young men to know that through this trial and suffering, the isolated and alone times you have when no one is around missing the game, that you are growing in ways that are unfathomable. You both are learning at a very early age how to endure temporary trials and tribulations, and what it truly means to keep your heads up and forge through it to attain personal goals set for your life. Sometimes people don't face these types of things until late in life, if ever.

Both your's and JH's demeanor and positive attitude here on HSBBW have been an inspiration to many who are pulling for the both of you. We all know there are days that Im sure you both would love to come on here and cry out how unfair these things are to you. I promise, we do.

One day soon in your very near future you will understand what you are learning in a "ah Ha" moment. When most would face an obstacle and throw in the towel you will find it easy to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

You have no idea how much I and others on here are pulling for you both. It's my prayer that God will grant you both quick healing and the heart to continue being an inspiration to others that it may glorify Him.

I really appreciate the kind words.

I had to text my dad the latest update about my shoulder, and all he had to say back was "I'm glad you chose your favorite school for academics"

Truer words have never been spoken!

Three Bagger, got to the Delta State - Florida Southern game in the top of 8th. Saw your son make a routine catch in CF while I was walking in, then Delta was kicking so much tail (they won 16-1) that they were substituting by the time he came up to bat in the 9th. Wind blowing out to CF 20-30 mph. Our 3:30 game has been postponed due to weather, in a holding pattern now.
Backstop-17, I just looked at the Tampa site and saw that yall are winning 10-5 in the 9th this evening so I guess tomorrow we'll meet both undefeated. Should be good! Yes, my son came out in the top of the ninth with the big lead but he had an RBI double in the eighth as part of a one for three with a walk performance. Got lots of action in that wind as he caught four flies to center. A good day for him and certainly for his team as their bats were on and they got an outstanding pitching performance. I saw your son was having a great day with the bat. With he and Floridafan's son it looks like yall have plenty of offense. One of my son's roommates who is our ace will be pitching tomorrow. Good luck to both your son and Floridafan's son though we still want that win tomorrow! Smile

This should be one heck of a game. You've got Tampa at #1 in the nation versus Delta State which is just outside the top 10. College baseball at its finest with hsbbwebsters going at it. IMHO, it's no coincidence that hsbbweb kids end up playing each other

Backstop17 - We'll be down to Port Charlotte in a couple of weeks - can't wait to get into the nice weather!
floridafan,

Thanks for the kind remarks about Jordan. Eric got a crushing triple against us. I agree that it was a great game against a great team. Can't be any closer than that, 2-1 in ten innings. I just told Jordan to be proud of the game he played and get ready to start a new streak against Barry tomorrow. He told me he could smell that home plate just 90 feet away that one time when he reached third but Tampa just buckled down and got the out they needed. Frown

That's nice of your wife to take the picture of him batting and I would appreciate a copy very much! Good luck with the rest of your season.

GREAT guy! I just love baseball people! Wink

Thanks JB, the feeling is mutual...it was a pleasure meeting you and hanging out for awhile Saturday. We'll talk a little more on Sunday before you head back to Nor Cal. Also, it was nice to get the opportunity to watch your son pitch Friday night, he's already paying dividends for the Huskies.
Lots of cool stuff going on in this thread!

First my prediction above on the Tampa versus Delta game turned out to be right - a barnburner of a game.

Congrats to justbb's son who has started his career off spectacularly in the PAC12.

fanofgame's son is HOT with the stick for USC!

OH BBMom - we'll just miss you as we'll be down the following week for spring training beginning on the 18th. Best wishes for your son and the 'Berg this season! Smile
YGD, thanks for the kind words. I hope the best for your son too.
Cleveland dad,looking forward to

Be sure to give us updates on how Tyler's doing this spring as I enjoy following his progress. I know there can be setbacks but I'm confident he's going to make it to the top eventually.

Thank you Three Bagger and fanofgame!

I am certainly not trying to hijack this thread but we'll take all the good wishes we can get. I believe there is a karma aspect to baseball. When I root for all your sons to do well, I believe it comes back as good karma Smile
No surgery. There is some (not necessarily great) chance that we can rehab my shoulder into feeling comfortable. We're going to pursue things aggressively to try to get me on the mound by the conference tournament. We may even do a minor procedure to try accelerate the healing - I'll post more on that if we do it.

I'm just excited to have something more immediate to work towards. I think our team could use me and I want to be there and able to contribute. I especially want to feel like my old self (a way I haven't felt at all at Rhodes) on the mound again.
Son is a D3 Frosh pitcher on a team that has battled some very tough teams to the wire, but is winless on the season and they are scuffing. Son had three relief outings in close situations, and although he seemed to throw well, made a few mistakes and was giving up runs. Coaches must have seen something they liked though, as they gave him his first start this weekend - against a powerhouse top 10 team that I'm sure expects to go to Appleton.

Well, he had a great outing. 6 2/3 innings of shutout three-hit ball, with a 6-0 lead. That's the stuff we knew he had in him! A two out error extended the 7th inning, then unfortunately his wheels came off a bit - 2 walks, a ground single, a HBP and an infield single and his day was done. The team ended up giving up the lead in the 8th and losing, but wow are we proud!

Had kind of a laugh this weekend as my son came up in Delta State's third game this weekend in the bottom of the ninth with the winning run on third, one out and a runner on first. I was having visions of a walkoff winning hit as he was hitting everything sharply that game although he only had one for three to show for it. So what happens? He gets his first career intentional walk at any level! It probabably made sense for a couple of reasons, including setting up the force at the plate and setting up more potential double play possibilities. I told him though that part of the reason was that there was virtually no chance of doubling him up which would lead to a game winning forceout on a grounder so the team decided to take their chances the other way with a not as quick righthander up. Our guy foiled that strategy by hitting a long sacrifice fly and we won so it worked out great. But my son had been ragged on since last year by his younger brother who was intentionally walked his senior season in a tournament game in which he was crushing the ball. So both boys were kidding each other about the fear they instilled in the other team at the time. Yeah right!
