Conky,

I've been reading all of your posts on this site. It's sounds to me like you need so help and fast! You're 18 years old, so depending on your date of birth, you missed the boat when it comes to playing for an elite baseball team that could have helped you with a scholarship. From your posts, it looks like you may be concerned about meeting the entrance requirments for a US Juco. It also seems to me that money could be a concern. I have noted that you live in London Ontario. Here is a piece of advice for you because it really seems like you're scrambling for answers. Go to the London Badgers baseball team website; http://www.londonbadgers.on.ca/ and pull off the contact information for Coach Lumley. Ask if you can meet with him as I'm sure he could answer a lot of your questions. I would ask him if he would be willing to evaluate you talent-wise for baseball to see if you have what it takes to warrant a scholarship. Some Jucos will have different entrance requirements for International Students, so once he has seen your grades and your level of play, he may be able to offer you some good advice. Short of UBC, I don't know of any colleges or universities in Canada that are scouted for baseball players.

Good Luck!

i didnt quite miss the boat, but if yo uare going to the use that refrence, i would be running to the very edge of the pier, mkaing a leap of faith, then hanging off the side of the ship

there is a league here, Junior Intercoutny, im going to play for them next summer, they go to 20, they are about the same level as the badger if not better without the price tag ($5,000), they had 12 guys on there team get US college scholorships, also im too old to play for the Badgers now, im 18, this would have been the last year i could play for them

i was thinking about signing up with College Baseball Connect

http://www.collegebaseballconnect.ca/home/default.asp

they help guys get scholorships, they look legit, what do you thinnk?
also i should say that the Badgers are VERY overated, the talent level there from what ive been told by many people is not as high as you would think, they really just have a bunch of rich kids, thats why they generally finish last place compared to other teams in there league because the other teams actually have talent, not just a big cheque book

oh and if you watch the video on this site, you can see that on the outfield fence, thsoe are all the pro players that have come out of Kwalten College

http://www.kwantlenchronicle.ca/2009/03/play-ball/

i guess the MLB somewhat looks at them

Hi Conky,

All of the players that I know in the Jr. Inter-County are college players who come back home for the summer and play there to stay tuned up. I don't know much about collegebaseballconnect other than I've heard of them. What you need is a resource to help you get a scholarship and this might be a good option for you. Be sure to ask them what they do to go about getting you a scholarship.

On another note, I wouldn't go slagging the Badgers. My son played against them this season and I found this team to be quite talented. They did finish with a winning record in the PBLO. You have to remember that traveling to US tournaments to showcase these players costs money. Renting ball diamonds, umpires and indoor training through the winter also costs money. The Badgers seem to have placed a lot of their players in US schools and have had many other players drafted.

Conky,

I was 18 when I started my search for a US College to play for so I know how you're in a time crunch and how frustrating it can be.

Most Colleges in Canada don't offer varsity Baseball as a sport.

Junior Intercounty is a decent league as GoodPitching suggests. But as far as getting noticed whie playing in that league I'm not too sure if that would help you out.

As far as signing up with College Baseball Conect... all that is going to do is get your name out and at a cost... probably at a cost that when it's all said and done you could use that money and "market" yourself to schools. You could even make your own website for yourself for free from eteamz.com

Another thing to keep in mind is if you start looking at US schools check to see if OSAP recognizes them as a school if they do then you can qualify for some funding from OSAP.

Check out this link Checklist Info for Canadian Players it should help you as well.

Hopefully this helps
Hi Doc.

Yes OSAP gives 3500 grant that isn't repayable. The college has to be on their list or you can ask them to list a college if it isn't on the list. You also can get a low cost student loan that you start paying back 6 months after you graduate and it is amortized over 10 years. You can also get interest relief and extended pay back periods if you can't find a job.
I am not a big Lumely fan but he does have a lot of connections. He is busy with Western University tryouts and exhibition games.
I believe there are some colleges in Western Canada that may be a fit for you. I don't know much about them but The College of the Caribou comes to mind. With the internet you should be able to find out about them.
I am not sure what the JR Intercounty League is.
