Love it that we have two programs who have never won a national championship are the final two. Since I have so many friends in TX have to root for A&M.

All my friends in Texas are mostly Longhorn fans (annoying in their own right) and hate A&M.  Lots of TCU fans probably feel the same way as Schlossnagle left TCU on a whim.  TN is probably going to get a lot of support from all those TX folks.

Is Vitello a little over the top and a drama queen?  Sure, but you could say that about a lot of college coaches and not just baseball coaches.

Frankly, I don't care who wins.  I just want to see some good baseball.

I am very emotionally invested in the outcome of the CWS finals. I think the 2 best teams in the country are the 2 still standing - which is very often not the case. However, A&M is not at full strength and Tennessee is. Aggies lost their best position player when he broke his ankle in the supers. In same series they lost a starting LHP for the year (elbow). Their star CF has a pulled hamstring, their DH has a torn miniscus, and their C (who deserves more credit than he gets) is just banged up in general. If Aggies were 100% I would call it dead even. Since they aren’t Tennessee is favored. Anything can happen and, regardless of the outcome, I will be watching with a great sense of pride.

@BOF I think that # is correct.

One of the reasons why Gators lost so many games. Freshman get mid week games and we lost too many of those.

It really does take a long time for freshman D1 pitchers to settle in.

My oldest at 12U played a summer season with one of your freshmen pitchers (he came up to NY to visit his cousin). I think he was a year younger than most on the team. Even at that age you could tell he would go on to do good things. Very nice quiet kid as well.

It’s not hard to pick a favorite in this series. Outside Tennessee who roots for a team where players flip off the opposing fans and the head coach is a jerk and proud of it. The Tennessee program lacks class. It starts with the leadership,

Go Aggies!

There are parents who post here who have players on both teams.

You are entitled to your opinion, but sometimes we have to think before we post.

I am 100% pulling for A&M, no question about it.

That said, I think Vitello is a very good coach who has developed Tennessee into one of the strongest programs in the country. Most of the players I talk to think he would be great to play for. Yes, their CF got carried away a couple of years ago and that was a horrible look for the team, and the team in general was boisterous that year. I was a fan of Vitello’s $2 chest bumps for charity after that umpire incident.

Vitello clearly loves his players and is building a powerhouse.

Again, though, just to be clear about my hopes for the CWS: Gig 'em!

You do not run this site. I didn’t name names. But if a team is going to have players and a coach who act like public jerks it’s open to discussion. If players of posters weren’t involved they don’t need to be concerned. So you can stop being concerned. Stop trying to play dictator on this site.

Everyone on this board knows your act. A lot of posters are sick of it. Now go whine to MN-MOM to try to get me suspended or kicked off the board. PM your friends on the board saying nasty things about me. Lash back publicly saying false things about me. Your act is old and stale.

When MN-MOM contacts me I’m going to tell her there are a lot of people on this board tired of your bullying.

Go Texas A&M!

I haven't spoken to Julie in years. If you have had complaints against you, it ain't me.

@TPM and @RJM. Lets just be friends based on our all mutual love of college baseball. Compared to the @TRhit era this is all just child's play. What is funny as I hated him back then, and now miss him; however I have always said that "through conflict comes clarity".

I am not sure how anyone can root for TN given their awful uniform colors, who came up with this color scheme?

Not to sound all "get off my lawn" but...

I cannot believe the amount of players (throughout the entire tournament) showing up umpires. Standing there staring when they get rung up, dramatic reactions, pitchers walking off the mound.

The lack of discipline at this stage knowing what's at stake is truly bizarre, especially with a suspension following an ejection. Beyond the ego of the players I cannot believe how coaches tolerate it at all.

I also don't know when baseball became a tough guy sport all of a sudden with stare downs and trash talk beyond a funny chirp. I don't think there's any place for that unless you're fully prepared for a physical confrontation - which none of these guys are (pro ball included).

I agree. I will add that I would enjoy the games more without Vitello. Most of the calls I’ve seen him piss and moan about were actually good calls.

Just got back to the hotel room from the game. What a game. Outstanding pitching performances on both sides. Dylan Dreiling is Mr. Clutch. He has been all year long for the Vols and now is doing it on the national stage. Super nice kid and goes about his business very quietly.  One game for all the marbles. Should be a fun night tomorrow.

Any team in America would take one game for all the marbles. Should be a good one. And it’s good that it’s the last one because I don’t know how many more of these I can take.

Just seeing this now. RJM, which player exactly would that be this year? I was at every game prior to SEC play, and was at several SEC weekends, and have been at every game during the world series. My son plays for Tennessee, and I can tell you for a fact that not one player has flipped off a fan this year. My guess is you are still commenting off the 2022 team with Drew Gilbert. Programs change. Back when my son was committed to a different school early on in high school, I used to say that if he re-opened up his recruitment that no way would I want him consider Tennessee because of this very reason. Then it actually happened and Vols entered the mix. Actually getting know TV away from the field, he is a very nice guy who does not like the attention on him. He even addressed the issues with that team during the recruiting process. This year's Tennessee team is nothing like the 2022 team. The kids left from that team couldn't and wouldn't let it be. They saw what the outcome of that team was. Yes, they have some competitors that can get wrapped up in the moment a little too much, but I dare you to go find an instance this year of a player flipping off a fan. Not on the 2024 version of the Vols.

It happened more than a week ago but the University of Texas waits until today to announce the firing of HC David Pierce.
What else is happening today? Texas A&M is playing for a National Championship, that’s what!
Don’t think for a minute that there is coincidence in the timing. There is not. This is standard operating procedure for them and a perfect illustration of why they are almost universally despised.

So when I refer to a college baseball program that is universally despised and I say UT and the person I’m talking to says “Texas or Tennessee?”, the proper response should be, “yes”

The beatings will continue until morale improves!   Absurd, but I don't think anybody on HSBBWeb fell out of their chair surprised by the action of Texas AD & leadership.   We've seen this quick trigger behavior in other major sports at the Univ or Texas, and that hasn't worked out either....leading to question their organizational sanity.  We know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Good luck finding a top tier coach and elite players that are willing to put up with this $hit in an unreasonable time frame.

A bunch of my old teammates ate texting me as we are all watching this. It’s both surreal and awesome at the same time!

This has turned into a bigger deal since it’s gone to a game 3. I was fortunate to be part of 2 SWC Championship teams at Texas A&M. We now have a group chat going that includes 10-12 other players from back then. Some of us haven’t talked in a while but we are as invested in tonight’s game as much as if we were gonna be on the field ourselves. It’s a great reminder that the bond between teammates lasts forever. There is nothing quite like it

Everyone was waiting for the firing. I think ot already happened.

With Texas joining the SEC, I am surprised they waited this long but I think they have a new hire in place.

Talk among the coaching world is that they are going to go after the big dogs.

Here is the list of the big dogs...Top 25 in college baseball. https://frontofficesports.com/...ge-baseball-coaches/

This is just salary, not total comp which we all know is far greater.  If I was one of these guys, I'm only taking the Texas job for a min 3-4 years guaranteed @ $1.6 to $1.75M per year salary.   If I'm happy where I am,  I'm not thinking about this twice.  Texas has a reputation.  I'd want to protect myself and family and be compensated for their history of conveniently disposable coaches.

This subject has been all over Twitter and fan boards for weeks. A lot of it is just trolling. But one thing I have learned for sure about baseball opinions posted on social media is that people can be dead wrong with a shocking amount of confidence

I am not happy to report this, but I just heard from a very reliable source (not Twitter) that Schlossnagle has taken the UT job.

I will not say anything about what I think about this as it’s not official. But I will say this. If you grew up in the state of Texas (or spent significant time here) you know that when it comes to the A&M/UT rivalry you pick one side or the other. For the rest of your life.

I can’t think of one significant person that has ever jumped from one side to the other. If Schloss does this he will immediately and forever be despised by the Aggie fan base. And he may not make it to Austin in one piece.

Baseball opinions sometimes have nothing to do with baseball at all.  This is risk vs reward pure and simple, and many people see a fair amount of risk with a TX HC position.
