D3 Eligibility rules are tough in that way. I'd rather walk away for a year, work on what they tell me I need to, and come back and impress. Plus you can lift and drill on "your" schedule and not have team practices mess with your classes or studying so you can really knock out the grades. Nothing says you can't watch the games from the stands and hang out after with the players.
