I think im getting it now...

Older son played in MSL, he is playing in college now...all is well.

Younger son goes to try out and doesnt make it, DAD is in shock cause he thinks lil bro has skills but doesnt...probably throws under 80 and cant run or hit.

DAD is going to give MSL guys hell for 5 weeks for MSL guys not taking lil bro to the 4plex...

Kid gets a "look" from 4-6 guys Sunday and DAD still not happy. Find this guy and get him a refund, he aint gonna be happy no matter what.

The guys at the MSL are good, let them do their jobs for 5 weeks and then report back to us and let us know if it was worth it.

As the world turns in the MSL.

Maybe next year's MSL or even the rest of this year's you should make it mandatory that all scouts wear their affilition during the showcase. So then parents know who is watching their sons and they can go a pester the **** out of them and brag about how great little Johnny is. LDinTheGap, you must have an agenda with your youngest, all the well knowing that the MSL was in your words wise that your oldest chose to play in his senior year.

My son does not play in MSL, or DBat as of now, but I know that the MSL is the best thing around to get your son looked at for any one place in the SW bar none. If Shane, Cade and the rest didn't care they would not have put this opportunity out there.

Just my 2 cents worth

If someone isn't happy with their experience so far in MSL or the PL, what is wrong with them just being allowed to state it on this forum? Why must be taken as a personal attack against MSl, Ken Guthrie, Cade, DBAT, apple pie or someone's mother?

When you go to a restaurant and have bad service, or bad food, you may still tell everyone you know, but you just dont go back. The owner, the waiter, the busboy and all the other eaters don't hop up and start jumping on you because you didnt like it, and then tell you how wrong you are, or about your hidden agenda to make Wendy's the better burger place.

We go on and on to our players about learning to take hecklers from the stands, bad evaluations and make the best of it, and here are the people who are teaching these boys to take it like a man, and they cant even take it like men.

Please explain how I implied that I took anything personal?

I don't coach, organize, or have anything to do with the MSL.

I was simply trying to get Mr. Polk's son as much exposier as possible.

I sensed his concern.

Sorry Ken, although I did list your name specifically, I mean the general tone of this forum has gone from what happened in MSL or PL to bashing on a parent who isnt digging it.

In my defense, I thought you were being a little sarcastic. Maybe I just dont get your complex wit.

Would anyone like to share the highlights of the weekend?
Btw, this type of stuff isn't limited to the HS baseball web. I have a HS friend whose son punts for a major college football program. He is a sophomore. I'm talking as MAJOR as CFB gets.....not 'Bama....but MAJOR. Smile So, Mark May, the ESPN anaylst makes a critical remark....and my buddy wants to fight him.....claiming, "these kids aren't paid....yadda...." Well, hello, he receives a FULL scholarship at a Big 10 school....ummm....estimate what? $120K? Mark May gets paid to be critical....honest....whatever the word.

My son pitches at a Big 12 school....sometimes he is good....sometimes not so good. I can't hate the guy that says, "JE wasn't so sharp today" just because he's a kid and doesn't get paid to play.

The analogy isn't identical, I realize....it's just to remind people to try to maintain some semblance of perspective. We paid for the MSL....I'm glad we did. Did it result in his opportunity at MIZZOU? I don't think so.....I think that happened earlier. But....it was a good, positive experience.

My perspective is.....your involvement in the MSL is an investment in your son's life. You won't even notice the money spent in a few months.

Go Tigers!

Cool
PD, as usual, you get it right.

I am on my second trip through the MSL. I have a 15U playing and the all important scouts and recruiters aren't really interested in the 16u bunch too much. But, I wouldn't care if there wasn't one scout there...he is playing against some of the better 15u/16u competition available and it will make him a better player.

There is precious little out there in the fall that would sharpen his tools any better, so he plays in the MSL. He enjoyed the first week...made a baserunnng mistake that he paid for, hit pretty well against some lively arms and had a blast. I saw some old friends and made a few new ones (at least until they get to know me).

There are many different ways that kids end up in college ball. The MSL is one of them. But if you are sending your son solely to make sure he gets a scholly, you don't need to do it. If he is good enough, one of the many ways a player gets noticed will do it...whether it is summer select ball, MSL, showcases, PG events, etc., if the tools are there, he will get his shot.
Ken,
While you're at it...

I've been stuck in the C league on my co-ed softball team for several seasons now. I'm trying to break into the B league, but I just can't seem to get anybody to notice me and pick me up. I'd really like to try to get on the "Hooters". Do you think you could put in a good word for me? I play a mean catcher.

Man, I'd really appreciate it.

What is your sons name and your contact information?

What team does he play for on Sundays?

BTW, you are the first one to redeem the offer. I will have to leave it at one for now. Since Mr. Polk declined, you will receive it. I don't make gaurantees, but I do promise effort.

Dillon, yes I'm glad. This s**t is funny. Some of the guys are in for a rude awakening if their son's do get a chance to compete at the next level. These high school kids don't have clue on hard they are going to workout in college. You can talk about it all you want, but until you get there and go thru some of the drills you just don't realize how hard it's going to be. And we haven't even talked about going to class. I feel sorry for some of these college coaches for having to listen to some of these dads and their garbage. Especially when they go in and ask why little Johnny isn't hitting 4th and playing ss every inning during the first scrimmage of the fall. Heck almost every position player on Junior's team hit in the 4 hole on their high school team and almost all the pitchers were the ace on their team. These dad's need to just sit back and enjoy watching their son's finish out their high school career and be quiet and enjoy it. Because once it's over it's over and their ain't no going back. If a kid is good enough to play college ball the coaches will find him. The recruiting will last well into next summer. Don't panic, if your kid wants to play he will find a spot. If your kid doesn't like to compete for playing time though he better just stick to playing for daddy.

And like I said before having gone thru this I still believe the MSL is the way to go.

I have no connections with the "Hooters" club...

But what about "Team Twin Peaks"?

I just might be about to sandwich you somewhere.

I paid the $675 this year with a smile on my face for this very same reason. Those scouts could be cardboard cut-outs, it would still be a great value.

(Yeah, Catcher...your social retardedness aside...I for one am happy with what you guys are doing)

This is a fantastic post that I hope everyone reads. I am not a parent but this resonates with me from a player perspective.

I remember playing at a big D1 school and thinking, "that player is better than me, why isn't he getting the opportunities"? Those thoughts then transformed into me wondering why the team wasn't good enough, why I wasn't being used a certain way until finally I transferred to a CWS contender, even though the team I was on was a top program.

- Looking back it amazes me how selfish and confused I could be.

I then remember playing at the new D1 school as the big transfer. Had opportunities early and did well and then broke my hand. Those opportunities were gone now even when I became healthy. I didn't realize that at my previous school I was at a place the truly wanted me there and was invested in me and now I was at a place that was using me as a final piece to their puzzle. Big difference. Went to the CWS but it didn't feel right and I wasn't a part of their plan anymore.

- Looking back I wish I didn't have the regrets but I learned a lot.

Then I went to pro ball and I was a number. I wasn't a bonus baby and I reverted back to the why's? And I became miserable early on.

A few years into pro ball I had a conversation with my dad on the phone and he asked me why I play. I told him because I love the game and I went into detail as to the emotion it brings out of me and other stuff such as it is the only place where my troubles can go away for a few hours while I step between the lines. He then said something that changed my life with baseball, he told me that everything I said wasn't true anymore, that I wasn't having fun playing, that I was bringing troubles between the lines and that I wasn't being a kid anymore. After that phone call my career turned around from a statistical standpoint but also a happiness standpoint.

I think that parents need to enjoy the ride as much as the kids need to enjoy the ride. The more pressure the less they get to truly enjoy what is actually happening to them. I also think parents forget how special it is to even be in a position to play in a showcase league or even to be looked at to play in a showcase league - most kids wish they had close to those talents. The bar gets raised because these kids play at such a high level for so long so everyone forgets how lucky everyone actually is, step back and enjoy the fact that many of you parents have kids on the lucky end of the athletic bell curve.

Wraggarm - I have a daughter with Down Syndrome who I would like for you to meet so the next time you think about making a remark about being a "retard", you might think twice about it because you know someone that might be highly offended by your cute remarks.
Lets get back to MSL bashing...I have questions:

1. Are those real HS ballplayers, or paid actors hired by the MSL mafia?
2. Was that the Craig Ranch 4plex or a soundstage in Las Colinas?

I have run the numbers again, for the fourth year in a row, and also heard from a source that the MSL mafia is using their profit margin to hire actors to act as players, scouts, and even some parents. Was it just me or did that scout in the blue shirt look like the actor Kevin Bacon in frame 231, near field 7.

Something aint right...I will get back to you all...
