I agree... nothing will surprise me at this point. A team currently tied for first certainly could run off 5-6 close wins and (based on record) appear to run away with it, but it seems to me no matter who is playing, almost every game is closely contested. I could also see a scenario where a team near the bottom wins 5-6 close games, and makes the playoffs. I won't predict either scenario... but when nearly every Tue/Fri lineup you have 3 of the 4 games being won by 1-2 runs...what could we really predict with much certainty?

Now we could debate who has the most talented team(s) all day, but that isn't necessarily reflected in the outcome of each game from day-to-day.

Teams with previously injured players getting healthy will add something new to the mix, though, no doubt.

WP - Cody Gunter 16 k's. LP - Colin Poche 16 k's! 3 hits allowed by both pitchers. 8th inning walkoff double.

Absolute best HS baseball game I have seen in my 45 years...

What a game would have liked to seen that one

Heard Plano east pitcher took a no-no into the 7th? Are they for real?
Top 4 teams go at it tonight.
Plano 7-2 vs FloMo 6-3
Allen 7-2 Vs East 6-3

2 Big games in this district tonight. There could be some seperation after tonight. Or their could be a 4 way tie at 7-3. Anyone care to make predictions? You know I will. FloMo wins but in a very close game. East got spanked by Allen in the first round but have been smoltering hot since. Look for them to get some payback in the same fashion Plano did against Allen.
Dont count Marcus out just yet. They are a very good team. Looks like it will go down to the wire on what 4 teams make the playoffs.
FINAL STANDINGS FOR PLAYOFFS
FloMo

Sorry Allen you are going home.

Our coach will not allow that type of talk. He requires the boys to chatter about our team, our players only, not make comments about the opposing pitcher or team.
Nimitz won 11-7 Smile

Hows Nimitz doing this year, 3-8 in district? Solid

you register today and make your first comment a sarcastic shot. You exhibit a lack of class sir. Much like what was displayed in Grand Prairie.
Par for the Plano course. Plano appears to have improved since losing to Nimitz. Very good for them.

Nimitz then and now, have a soph, soph, freshman starting pitching rotation and a freshman catcher. 6 seniors on the squad and 2 start...sometimes.
Unlike the contest vs. Plano, Nimitz has struggled to score runs. They are young, they are determined to improve, win more games, and win with class.

I display a lack of class? You are commenting on a post talking about the Plano baseball players and how bad they seem to "jaw" when they play, yet you comment saying you beat them with a smiling face. Seems classless to include a score with a face smiling, hypocritical if you ask me. Congratulations you won but it doesn't seem like Nimitiz has a skill that reaches Planos talents from what it seems with their stats, and strong district record. Let the teams play, no one enjoys a boring non chatting team. That's what creates intensity and excitement.

Plano has a good team but they don't act the part. We played them early in the season and the chatter was there then as well..reminded me of a girls softball team and it was bush league - agree w mj 8 our coach wouldnt put up with it!
Slugfest,

if you'll look back at what prompted my comment, you will see a subject matter addressing Plano's behavior. I mentioned our team's experience.
Plano seems to practice this tactic regularly.

When I coached, I never allowed my boys to talk trash. As ttredraider1 stated and he is right on the money, it's bush league. I would tell my boys, "talking trash just get's you bashed."

You see, going into that game Nimitz had against Plano, our boys and coaches had respect for the group; maybe a little intimidated. Plano has a history of success. Our boys might have remained intimidated if Plano had come out and let they're "skilled" play do the talking, however all they did was make our boys angry with their antagonistic chatter. Nimitz knowing they weren't allowed to talk back, had only 1 option left - beat them. So that's what they did. Nimitz let performance do the talking.

Face it, Nimitz was better than Plano that day and they won without running their mouths. Nothing sweeter than knocking off a mouthy bunch that should be able to win by shear "skill". That's what prompted my Smile
You can accept it or not. I've offered you enough clarity.
Mj 8,

Well, the fact that Plano possessed more intensity last year and used the same tactics, they ended up deep in the playoffs. You played a team who would not even think to waste their star pitching and still a developing team after losing quite a few starting seniors. If Nimitiz played this Plano team now who have found their rhythm, it would be no contest a long with all the chatter. I'm sorry to say, but once again Nimitiz doesn't possess even close to the same skill as Plano does whether YOU like it or not
Final District Standings

Plano 11-3
Flower Mound 10-4
Plano East 10-4
FM Marcus 8-6
Allen 6-8
Plano West 4-10
Lewisville 4-10
Hebron 3-11

Congratulations to Plano for winning the best district, top to bottom, in the state. Your team is so good because you're well-coached and you have a lot of talent as well.

Flower Mound might be one of the toughest outs in the tournament because I don't think anybody can match their 1 thru 3 starters (and they have quality beyond the top 3). If you can match their pitching, you have a very good team.

Colin Poche of FM Marcus...you're the very best pitcher I've seen this year. Best of luck in the future.

When the last place team in the district has as good a pitcher as Joe Farley, you know that's a great district. What a competitor. No matter what Hebron's record was, you knew you getting past Farley was not going to be easy.

To the kids at Plano East, congrats on a job well done. Somewhere within yourselves, sitting on the bus in Lufkin after getting whacked by Klein-Collins on a cold rainy day or after the Billy McKinney 3-run dinger that tied the game or the 11-1 debacle against Allen you got together, collectively picked yourselves up off the ground and said "enough."

Getting knocked down is not a big deal. Getting back up after you get knocked down is a big deal. That 10 game winning streak was a thing of beauty and very timely.

You survived the toughest district in the state and came out on the other side. Be very proud of that accomplishment. Now go have some fun the rest of the way and make this a truly memorable season.

I think Lewisville finished above PW with the same record due to 2 of PW's losses coming by way of the Farmers.

Hats off to all four top teams, you will represent this district well in the playoffs.
