Tallwood 4 First Colonial 3

Tallwood got on the board with 3 in the top of the first. 2 walks, a hit batter sandwiched around a couple of hits and a sac fly. They extended the lead to 4-0 with an unearned in the 2nd. Farmer pitched out of baseloaded jam in the 4th. In the 5th FC battled back to cut the lead to 4-2 when Miles Shipp tripled home one run and scored himself on a sac fly by F Barry. Farmer started the 5th with a walk and was relieved. The kid (Sorry no name) pitched out of a 2nd and 3rd jam in the 6th and in the bottom of the 7th Ryan Sykes hit a shot to right field that hopped over the fence for a ground rule double. Barry scored and A wright had to return to 3rd. He would have tied the game up for sure. The kid struck out the the last fc batter for a big victory for tallwood. Dj Rathbone pitched 5 scoreless innings for FC in relief.

Sorry for lack of information for the tallwood players. Congratulation for their victory.

fc v dad
PA-6, Kellam-3
Hendrix started out a little wild, walking 4 batters in the 1st inning. Kellam only scored 1 in the 1st. Kellam then scored 2 in the 3rd, one of Justin Neuman's single through the drawn in infield. Sean Ray held PA scoreless until the 4th when PA finally strung together some hits, a hit batter with the bases loaded, and a wild pitch for a 4 run 4th. Hendrix settled down and pitched well the rest of the game, finishing with 11 strikeouts. PA plays Salem tomorrow at Landstown at 5.
Congrats to Tallwood, who at the beginning of the season was tagged by one Beacon reporter as being "the longest of the longshots". Mat Farmer pitched 4 solid innings. Ryan Cooper came in relief and dispite the razzing coming from the FC dugout, he persevered. Barry Long had a few key hits and had some awesome defensive plays at 2nd. Winton Weather was outstanding behind the dish, keeping FC runners from advancing. David Hughs had several put outs in right field. Vinny Pellegrino had 2 monster hits and was robbed by an outstanding defensive play by Toph in center.
Great game at Kempsville yesterday. Timely hitting by Ocean Lakes including a GRAND SLAM home run in the top of the third by Derek Trueblood from Ocean Lakes. Matt Little and Adam Honeyhutt also had round trippers for Kempsville. Kempsville loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth and the bottom of the seventh but could only push one run across. Final score 8-6 Ocean Lakes
I have been watching games and reading these postes all season long. Before the season all the focus was on Cox then it turned to FC when they made their run for the beach title. Now that the tournament has come with Cox and Fc getting knocked out in the first round. Could we please give some credit to some other teams and other players other than thos who play for Cox and FC. Just las week you all were talking about how Tallwood should not have even been in this tournament and now they are moving on to the second round. And how about Salem picking up an outstanding victory over the Falcons who claimed they had the best chance to run for the STATE title. Now all they can do is sit back and watch. I guess all this proves is that talk is nothing. The team taht shows up and wants it the most will take it, and you can't count any team in the beach out, especially with everyone now competing for a regional bid. Good luck to all the remaing tounament teams.
justafan2

Yes I agree that FC and Cox deserve credit for their regular seasons. But big teams step up in big games and neither team stepped up. Now FC already has their spot in the regionals so it wasn't necissarily crunch time for them. But it was for Cox and by all of their preseason talk I expected them to be a contender for the regional championship. I think more credit should be givin to the other contending teams in the beach district. How far do some of these teams, like Salem, have to go before they earn the respect that they once had?
Redbird,

Show me one thread on here where a Cox fan said they would win it all. Go ahead...show me. You can't because it doesn't exist. You never cite facts. You are but a mere trouble maker who likes to stir the pot and see how many people you can lure into arguing. Your comments and your attitudes displayed on this site are unhealthy and disrespectful to the good people who created it for our positive use and to the good people who use it to share and discuss positive information.
Coach Conroy has led the falcons to back back second place finishes in a very tough district.
He was also Beach District Coach of the Year in 2003

I personally think the district tournament needs to become double elimination. Most college conference tournaments are double. Single elimination belittles the regular season. Seeding does'nt matter. What's a few extra games gonna do. Most kids have played upwards of 50 in a season during AAU

redbird,

Tyree's Association has a group of "better umpires"?!? Isn't that an oxymoron?

If you have played and travel as much as you have stated, you should know the quality of umpires in EVOA far exceeds most umpire association in VA, NC and MD.

The better teams get the better umpires. It's obvious that your team does rate the higher level umpires.

Estimator - Correct on all accounts regarding Redbird

Estimator,

I am not instigating at all. Simply re-stating what driller and I said at the beginning of the year. It just hurts more now. Conroy was in a no win situation this year - if he wins, he was supposed to; if he loses - he did a poor job. I feel he is a good coach but in a tough spot much like St. Clair a few years ago.

Here are the posts you requested after a cursory search:

How do you like your crow? By the way, I don't need a lecture from you about the existance of this site.

Off to College,

The worst umpires I have ever seen have come from EVOA. Sure, there are a couple of good ones but, for the most part, they stink. Why? Because they have a virtual monopoly in Tidewater. By the way, who determines who the better teams are?

Nice try on the insult, though.

Philly fan,

Not at all.

redbird5,

I'm not a Cox fan but what the Cox fans were doing is nothing more than the Kellam fans did a few years ago. Fans should feel good about a talented team, they should talk them up they did nothing more than any good fan does. I guess it's ok when Kellam fans talk s**t but not when anyone else does it. If you were talking to driller about anything than you don't need to say anymore. Wasn't driller running a boarding house for kellam players a few years ago.

Concerning EVOA umpires, I don't know how much you have played out of the are and the state, obviously not much. I have taken teams all over the country and EVOA umpires are as good as any and better than most.
doc,

You have a short term memory because I was on the Kellam fans as well. As for the comments about driller, you are out of line. Matty has forgotten more baseball than many know in this area. You sound bitter.

If you are satisfied with EVOA, good for you. I have been out of the area once or twice before and I will stand by my comments. You call sending 1 umpire to a HS game a good umpiring organization?!?

Redbird,

As usual you have proven nothing. No crow to eat here. You selected two threads that have posts from many people discussing the teams and the upcoming season at the time. NOT ONE post stated that Cox would win it all. NOT ONE! Hope you choke on your "crow". biglaugh

As for lecturing you...I will lecture you every time you come on with negative and antagonist bullcrap. Get it right or get off the site.

Doc,

I am finally over your constant issues with Kellam. You are obviously a Kempsville person who is always looking for other issues instead of staying in your own back yard. Kempsville had a great team this year. I believe that any players who left the program did not effect this year. I don't know for sure because the only ones you complain about went to Kellam. The problem is, the fans are also sitting at home watching Ocean Lakes move forward. The coach at Kellam has not consistantly whined about the players that live in the Kellam district and are not playing at Kellam. He has gone on the field with what is available and done the best possible. I am the first person who said Kellam would not be great this year. I also beleive no coach could have done better with the team. I don't know the reason that these kids play with other schools, but I am sure that they followed all of the necessary redtape to do it. I really wonder if you follow the proper channels to file a formal complaint about those issues. Most people don't because they would rather just complain about them. Get over Kellam. Concentrate on helping the program at Kempsville. From what I understand, they need someone to drive the bus to games. It is so unsafe for these players not to have a bus.

Lynn Metheny

Nobody seems to know who you are. Isn't that interesting?
Estimator,

You are correct. Not one post siad Cox would win it all verbatim. By the way, you never answered my question...are you calling for a new coach at Cox?

Get it right or get off the site? Wow. I am glad we have someone like you here to police the site.

Stow away your pom poms until next year and enjoy watching the playoffs, fella.
1943 yankees,

I think you should read my post again. I didn't talk about kellam, I was stating a fact about kellam fans were talking a few years ago that they were going to win a state championship before the season started. I also said for fans to talk about there team like that is a good think. According to the name you use 1943 yankees you should understand this, we yankee fans are always talking about championships all year long. About the bus situation, Kempsville has been riding in cars to games for about 7-8 years and have never had an accident or any type of situation. Kempsville ALWAYS gets to games on time, they never have to hold up a game because they can't get their on time or our kids don't sit around for hours after a game waiting for a bus, like some teams. I won't mention any teams. On the topic of driller, maybe you don't realize he was letting players live at his house in order for them to live in the kellam school district. I bet you didn't know he was instrumental in running your last coach out. obviously you haven't been around beach baseball long enough in order to know what has gone on.
Redbird,
We have absolutely not intention of asking for a new coach at COX and here are the reasons why. In the past 3 years Bill Conroy taught our sons responsibility, accountablity, volunteerism, the importance of good grades (all of our seniors graduated with diploma's NOT GED's). They cared about each other, respected each other's strength's, worked to improve each other's weaknesses. Disrespect was not tolerated on this team. They were positive young men. Every player respected the game of baseball. Yeah our season didn't end the way we wanted it to but that's life and to blame it on the coach is punitive and wrong. Our boys and parents are more mature to hold one individual responsible. We walked off the field with tears in our eyes but our heads were held high because Bill Conroy is our head coach. And that is an honor that only Falcon have.
Sorry Estimator I had to step in and say my peace but I look forward to your view.
Well said philly fan. EagleOne YOUR RIGHT I'm as guilty as anyone. How bout this. Let's hear what teams did community service work as a team. Let's hear what they did and where they did it. People this is what coaches must do to teach our children about life and team work. It's not all about what happens between the white lines.
Redbird,

I'm not policing the site...just line-checking you and your abrasive comments. What gives you the right to bash or negatively comment on teams, players, coaches, or fans?! Why bring all your negativity to a place where the majority of people are having fun trading ideas, successes, and sometimes sorrows in the baseball world? You must have had some major failures and/or disappointments in your past to lower yourself to the levels you have here.

Oh...and my pom poms will be VCU Black and Gold next year. What will yours be? Big Grin

And no I'm not calling for a new head coach at Cox. But a new pitching coach might be wise.

I agree with Phillyfan as well, Coach Conroy is not only a good coach but he is a great person as well, who is willing to go above and beyond the status quo to help the kids. He certainly left an impression amoung the group he left at OL.
I would like to congraulate both OL and Salem in their victories yesterday. For a freshman Luke Townsend pitched a heck of a game after a shaky start. Timely hitting by Enselmo (sp) cantu, Carlos DeJesus helped to break it open along with untimely errors by Tallwood. Up until then I thought Tallwood was hanging tough and had people (OL parents)fearful of another upset?? I also thought Ryan Cooper from Tallwood pitched a very good game but its tough to recover and win with so many defensive mistakes. Didnt stay for the PA/Salem game but it should be a fun game tonight, strategy wise for sure! May the best team win!

Philly Fan,

Very well stated...and you need not apologize. While I (and from what I heard several others) did not agree with every decision that coach Conroy made this year, we/I never interfered with him and his team. They did it their way, and while the end result was not what everybody hoped for, they have all become better individuals through the experience. My only regret was that Brett was not able to help out in the middle of the season...through no fault of his own. But life goes on, and everyone of those graduating seniors on the Cox baseball team has a bright future...whether it be in baseball or some other walk of life. Cudos to the entire team for all their hard work, and to all the parents and fans for their fierce loyalty to the team.

phillyfan,

If you haven't guessed yet, I agree with you. I am not bashing Conroy at all.

estimator,

If you don't like my comments, ignore them. I didn't bash any players or coaches. I was focused on the fans. Too often, fans and parents bash the coach if they don't win. Even you pointed out a few coaching flaws midyear. Are you willing to let Conroy come to your work and point out your estimations are wrong?

Most beach teams are notorius for this. I was not claiming you were, just simply asking. You just happened to take it upon yourself to defend the Cox fans and "line-check" me. (Good sports cross reference by the way).

I have always said if you are good, you don't need to tell anyone. Many Cox fans spent the winter and spring bragging about their team (much like Kellam did a few years ago). It is their right to do so but, when things go south, why can't someone remember the talk? I didn't call your kid ugly or say he couldn't play.

I am not a big FC fan but I will say one thing about them - they don't talk about how good they are. They just go out and show it. I would hope that Cox, if they put together a solid 5 seasons, will get to this point.

Because I post "abrasive" comments about EVOA and Cox, I have major failures or disappointments in my life? Nope, none to report. I got all I wanted out of baseball and, to date, I am very happy with my life. Thanks for caring, though.

On another note, good luck to your son next year with Coach Keyes. He is a good guy and a very good coach.
Redbird,

If coach Conroy believes he knows as much about ship repair estimating as I believe I know about baseball, he is more then welcome to come point out my estimating flaws with some constructive criticism. Not a problem.

"If you don't make mistakes...you're not doing anything."

Thank you for the good wishes for Brett. We are looking forward to the experience.

Isn't this fun? Especially when work is slow? duel biglaugh
estimator,

Yes, it is fun...but back to the debate...so you are telling me that, if Conroy studied estimating, you would allow him to come to your work?!?! C'mon. You can't be serious.

I think it would be great to have a coach some to a critical parent's job and look over their shoulder while they try to work. Something very funny about that image to me.
Craig,

The Salem/Princess Anne game was a great game to watch. Especially for me: someone with no vested interest and who enjoys watching both of these coaches anyway. Tonights game will also be interesting. I was impressed at the Ocean Lakes game. Luke (freshmen) held his composure even when things were not going so well. He did a great job.
As for volunteer work, I would personally like to thank all of the Kellam guys for their lasting support at Virginia Beach Little League. We have some that are volunteer umpires, some that help coach teams, many that come out and do field work, and a group that came out and painted. The Board Members would also like to thank the coach along with his players, who hold FREE clinics for the players of our league and offers his support to any venture that we may need him for. The younger boys love Coach Jones and all of his players. And I, having supported Kellam Baseball, for quite a few years, through the good times and bad, would like to personally thank them. You're a great bunch of kids!

Lynn Metheny
Redbird,

If any coach...not just Conroy...were as directly involved with or affected by my work as I believe we as parents are with his work, then by all means I should expect comments...whether they be critical or congadulatory. But that is not the fact here, and thus is a mute point on your part. Coaches have come under scrutiny from the general public (parents, fans, spectators) since day one. It is part of the game/business. I agree that some...a small minority...carry their criticisms to extreme. But most are good natured loyal fans expressing their thoughts based on what they are seeing. They do so because they care...about the team, the coach, their favorite player, or whatever. It is antagonizers who stir the pot way too often who truly do more harm than good. Think about it Redbird before you respond back. Almost every...if not all responses to you on this and many threads by many people...have been adversarial. Why do you think that is?
Regardless of how directly affected you are by a coach, what makes you an expert in his field? What gives a fan the right to criticize him? Because you attend the game? Because your son plays for him? I know this is more of a philosophical argument and I expect it to die.

I just checked my last 40-50 posts and only 3-4 (outside this thread) have been adversarial. Perhaps I just rub you the wrong way? To that end, ignore me. I will voice my opinion. If you like it, great. If not, too bad.

I haven't said anything out of line. Calling out the Cox fans is not that bad. Don't shake your pom poms so loudly at the beginning of the year if you cannot take the heat at the end of the year. I did not bash any players or coaches in any of my posts. My biggest offense is that I insulted your green and gold blood. How is that doing more harm than good?
Last edited by redbird5
Redbird,

You don't count very well. guess I don't need to worry about you criticizing my work any time soon. biglaugh

You haven't insulted my loyalty any where near as much as you think I have insulted your integrity...or lack of. Not only will I not ignore your blatantly callous posts, I will continue to respond. If you like it, great. If you don't...too bad. And I never said I was an expert in a coach's field. What makes you an expert in any thing to do with baseball?

You continue to sound like like an embittered former coach who was oft criticized. maybe for good reason. If you can't stand the heat, get away from the flame. Big Grin
I have read this site for years and would generally never consider participating in the banter that goes on. Mostly it is amusing, sometimes it is refreshing to read comments from someone like "Be All You Can Be". If you are a kid, and I know you are, what a great kid you are. This is mostly meant for DOC, whoever or whatever the heck you are. I have been around baseball most of my life, and have gotten to listen to alot of comments about baseball and more importantly, about Matt. All I want to tell you DOC is you do not know as much as you think you know about most subjects from what I can tell. You especially DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING about the Justin Jones situation, And, by the way, I believe there were three or four kids that left Kempsville that year, and you'll have to take up the reasons they left with them. My husband has given and given and given to baseball and kids his whole life, and in some of those situations, knowingly has put himself in a no-win situation for himself for idiots like you who have ignorant opinions about things they know NOTHING about. But I just want to tell you to BE VERY CAREFUL. People have been sued over slander and that is what your written words have been, slander. No one is perfect, but Matt has done more for baseball and for kids than you will ever dream of knowing or accomplishing. I will apologize to all others on this site because I know that this is not what it is meant for. Sometimes I just get tired of the DOCS in the baseball world. TO all you baseball players out there, keep up the good work, play hard, and you will all be winners no matter what the score is.
Tina Sinnen,

I am shocked! You stuck up for your husband! However, we probably should have started a seperate subject: Explain to DOC to do his homework before he utters his comments. After all, not only does he have knowledge of your situation, he also knows that I have not been around the baseball fields very long.

Lynn Metheny

Great idea to identify yourself.

By the way DOC, according to school board policy, 6-56, your coach needs to have lots of paperwork on file for the players to be driving to school-related events. I'm sure, without a doubt, all of those procedures have been followed.

Now lets get back to the game tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ms Tina,

Who is Matt? I was refering to driller whoever he is. I really don't think you know what your talking about. You know the stated facts happen so why deny them. Don't think that he is the only person who has given his life to baseball and our youth. Kempsville never had three players leave in the same year JJ left and the next year WR left and accomplished nothing by leaving. The other player left the same year as WR for football and that's a fact. Don't forget about the high profile players that left your program.

1943 yankee,

I challange you to research and find out if all the paper work that is required has been submitted. The Kemsville coach knows the rules and what is required of him. You don't see Kempsville forfeiting any games.
estimator,

I count just fine. An engineering degree to prove it.

I am just fine with my integrity and so are others that know baseball. Many on this board know me personally. I would bet they would say the same thing. Please explain how I have damaged my integrity with a post on a message board without attacking a player or coach but a group of notoriously, excessively eager fans.

What makes me an expert? You can ask those who know baseball in the area about my knowledge and draw your own conclusions.

You still didn't answer my question about what makes you an expert? (You like to re-direct the question but you don't answer any)

Speaking of negative posts...every one of your posts to me have been negative. So much for your exchange of positive ideas.
doc,

No. I don't know it to be true. I know people like you spread rumors. For what reason? How about them illegal practices you supposedly know about?

Eminem (great name by the way),

No Kellam fans attacked doc. If I remember correctly, it was doc who fired the first shot. No Kellam fans attacked him but they did defend their coach. For some reason, doc has a problem with Kellam and driller (even though he can't figure out who driller is).

In case you didn't know, St. Clair is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Unless you know him personally, you would think he was trying to pull a fast one. Of all the coaches I know, I am convinced St. Clair made an honest mistake.

By the way, you may want to ask one of your teachers what hipocrisy is. Comparing my words to Cox fans (notice I didn't attack Conroy) and the Kellam situation is like comparing apples to doorknobs.
Last edited by redbird5
Redbird- I’m at a loss here…what exactly have the Cox fans done or said that you take issue with? Yes, early on there was talk that Cox was the favorite in the Beach and Cox fans were very excited. Rightly so, Cox had a very talented team, and , on paper, they looked to be the favorites. I also remember you saying something to the effect that Cox fans would be calling for a new coach if they didn’t win this year. Well, they didn’t win, and the only person that I’ve seen mention anything about a new coach on this forum is you. Why the post? Were you trying to, as another poster said, “stir the pot” and make your prediction come true? Well it looks like you were wrong. The only thing your post has done is stir up support for Coach Conroy. If you find the time, please respond to my first question because while I haven’t posted much on these boards, I have read most of the posts here and can’t recall anything from Cox fans that would warrant your singling out them as a group. If there is something you are aware of that has taken place away from this board, perhaps you can discuss it directly with them, there are always a few disgruntled fans/parents on any team, but please don’t try and pin label on a large group of mostly dedicated, caring baseball fans and parents
Redbird what is hipocrisy?

I believe the word your looking for is hypocrisy
Here's a site for the definition www.dictionary.com

I believe a synonym for hypocrisy is double standards

Here's a double standard
Kellam fans are allowed to support their coach and Cox fans can't support theirs. Cox fans can't even support themselves. This is all according to your logic.

By the way you might want to ask coach jones if he can count
