After talking to several NCAA Summer League coaches they made the comment they have always lost players each year mid season because a player missed his GF. Confused

One player gf's showed up, he pitched the next day giving up 9 runs and getting no outs and quit the next day claiming he missed his gf. She lived 5 miles away from where he lived too

Funny thing was alot of players who had GF's supposely back home, during summer ball were cheating on them left and right, but got real upset when their GF's did the same. Roll Eyes

Ball players are weird about GF's , they are jealous of other players are with attractive GF's or if the girl is not a looker they make fun of the player.
Eek
A GF can be a positve thing on a ball player. Every ball player likes having people come and watch them play. And if your GF will sit through a game in 100 degree heat, you have a keeper or she ran out of money to shop that day

You da man when it comes to baseball advice, but I respectfully disagree on the girl thing. My frosh loves baseball to the max, and has since he was first picking up a bat, but he was making some crazy sounds when in the throes of the wicked witch of the heart. After it finally ended, his exact words "I can't believe I was even thinking those things" (transfer to closer to the honey, etc.)

If an English King could renounce the throne for his American honey, don't be suprised if college baseball players aren't immune to the love bug.
Baseballs aren't moody once a month

Baseballs don't like Valentine Candy

Baseballs don't have your cell phone number

Baseballs don't date people you know if your away

Baseballs have their own money

Baseballs like to eat out in YOUR favorite places

Baseballs don't care who you talked to at school today

Baseballs encourage you to hunt and fish when your not playing with them.

Baseballs like to watch baseball on TV

Baseballs ride in the back seat and remain quiet.

Baseballs always like the same music that you like.

Baseballs don't care if you shower or brush your teeth.

Baseballs give you unconditional love.

Baseballs are always in the mood

"Paris Hilton needs to gain about 30 pounds to be a real woman." And shrink about 30 inches.

"I think the best girlfriend that a dedicated baseball player can have is a dedicated softball player! She will understand the schedule and dedication level!" Say, what about Jenny Finch, the blond who co-hosts TWIB, she'll throw you batting practice, and she's really hot! Nah, she's too tall for me, I hate women taller than me, and who throw harder than me. She's probably taken anyway.
Swingbuster that was pretty good! O.K. now, serious thought: How many MLers have longt-time GF's or are married? I think Roy Halladay is. And how many who made it and dated in High School? I still say it depends on the girl. She must be willing to miss you when you go on a long road-trip, and not cheat. As for HighSchoolers, don't know, never dated. Where I'm from these women wouldn't have just ruined my career, they would have ruined my whole life.

"Attitude is a little thing that makes a BIG difference"
I won't introduce politics into a baseball web site Big Grin(now there's a topic), but if the guy drew a check, and he did, and could stroll in as he pleased, and he did, that's "official" enough for me. And I like George W. just fine, but won't start a political discourse. We all know there are no politics in baseball (at least there aren't on the field of play, during a game...).
I'll ditto Underground's post. My 06's GF plays at a rival HS. Nothing to distract him from his games or his studi.es. Summer may be different, though. BTW, her brother plays BSB so it's a ballplaying family. Couldn't have picked a better girl for him.
On the other hand, a couple years ago he was totally whipped by a girl one summer, and his golf game (Fall sport in VA) went into the dumper until they broke up. Claims he'll never make that mistake, again.

If your son is to have a girl friend, encourage him to date a girl on the softball team. That way they can spend their evenings helping each other with their swings, soft toss, etc.

Otherwise, I agree with Dad04 and Bobby Bouche's mama -- "didn't I tell you girls was the devil".

I have had the same girlfriend for about 2 1/2 years. I met her during my sophomore year of baseball. She has been nothing but supportive of me and my HS baseball career, and now through my Tommy John rehab and my future career at Indiana State. I find it helpful that she is very very serious about her ballet and she is going on a scholarship somewhere. I just find it helpful to find someone to vent to when I do poor on the mound, and there are always things you can say to her that a kid might be hesitant to say in front of their parents.
I have found that it has driven me more to be a good ballplayer, because as stated above no girlfriend wants to be the girlfriend of the 0-10 pitcher with q 19.25 ERA Wink
