Have any of you umpires been able to listen to the recent Red Sox game with Dennis Eckersley doing the color?
Been quite revealing, not to mention interesting, listening to a HOF Pitcher critique the umpires

The problems with the umpires today is how they think they run the game---expanding strike zones---touch players to user them off the field---ejecting players and coaches at the drop of the hat-- they even walk on the field now, at all levels, with an attitude
I am ECK's side

It must've been my upbringing, but I have a big issue when I hear someone say "The problem with (fill in the blank) today is.....", always followed by some generality that explains everything.
Usually these words come from "old geezers" (I know, I know), talking of the way the world used to be, and I can accept that .....Other times, like this OP, I realize its just a poor defense attempt....

It is not a defense---it is from experience on the field watching how the umpires today act as compared to years ago---their ears are so big they could fly in a good breeze-- yes there are good ones but the bad and pompous ones overtake the game
Amazing how you can judge my thinking? On what basis do your do this--the old gezzer aspect does not bother me---what bothers me is how you can judge me as you do
