I asked our pediatrician if the following wives take is somewhat accurate. It seemed to be with the kids I coached.

A boy will grow to be 6-8 inches taller than his mother.

Yes, it can be affected by exceptions in the family tree. Or the father's side having dominant genes. In fact, I have a friend with two short parents (5'8" and 5'2") who is 6'1". His brother is 5'8". My friend got the tall aunt's genes.

Just a thought, while I believe son actually didn't stop growing until college, he actually wasn't what I consider a fully matured male until about 28.

All kids mature at different times, if you son is sporting a full beard along with other hairy body parts, chances are he is probably done with the process, according to his biological age.

The thing is that this is very noticeable and noted by the best of the college coaches and scouts. FWIW, the more room for improvement the better it might be in their recruitment and pro chances after HS or college.

I had heard not sure, that doing too much too early in lifting, etc isn't helpful in the growth process. Can anyone prove this to be not correct?

So my 12.5 year old voice is changing.  Hair in certain places but not others.  Is this around the time you saw your son have a growth spurt.  He seems to be growing at regular intervals.  Not real "spurt".  Do all kids have a growth spurt?

My Kid has grown at a pretty steady 4 inches a year pace for the most part from ages 11 through 14.   He's grown 2 inches in the last 5 months or so, so more or less on schedule....not everyone grows 10 inches in a year or whatever

My sons voice changed about 6-8 months before we saw the huge growth spurt.

At 15 and 6'1 he still has no hair on his chest.  I've been told that's the definitive factor on if he's done growing. Grandfather was 6'4, must be where it's coming from, he's taller than both his parents at this point.

You can't look at your own growth path and compare it to your son with expectations. I was 5'7" in LL. My son was 5'0". His growth pattern followed his mother's side of the family. He grew to be 6'2".

His sister was the same. She grew fourteen inches in eighteen months in middle school. Before she grew she looked like a clown peddling a bike down the street. My daughter was an athlete. But we have some good laughs now about when she was a geeky, spastic, bean pole (5'10" 120) with braces.

What was freakier was a five foot, 12yo boy with a deep voice.

No.  Kidzilla never grew more than 4-1/2 inches in a year.  He also never grew less than 3 over a span of 8-10 years through 9th grade, then 2 more inches each 10th and 11th grade, and almost an inch the first semester of his senior year.

Then the muscle started showing up.  He had tried to gain weight to no avail for years.  But after his vertical growth slowed to a trickle, he gained 35 lean pounds in 6 months (most of it while playing varsity basketball).

There were some pretty remarkable mini-spurts mixed in there, like when he grew almost an inch the week of his 14th birthday.
