Son's team is 11-2. One loss was an experience as they played a team ranked in the top #10 nationally. Just when you start to thinking you are something, you find out you better keep working hard.

We have a wonderful group of seniors. They are hard workers, positive, and team oriented role models. Lots of talent but great attitudes too. It has been fun.

Son is having a great senior year too. It has been a joy to watch - but will be over far too soon.
By the way "Bob" I am one of those moms too, that would rather be at the ball park than just about anywhere. And, I sure could buy a lot of $200 purses if those bats didn't cost so much Smile. But, i'd rather we buy the bats. . .and the gloves. . . and the cleats. . .
Team is off to 5-0 start, against some weak competition. Looking forward to first district game this Friday.

Son is off to a good start, hitting .562 (again, against weak competition). Biggest surprise so far is his display of speed/agressiveness on the basepaths. 8 stolen bases in 5 games.....we'll see if that pace will stand during district play......

It is hard to believe his SR season is already a 1/4 of the way done!!!!1
Congratulations to your son, rwulf!!

We lost a couple of district match-ups this week to put our record at 9-6. But we have matched our win total from last year! And last night 2B went 2-for-3 with a walk in a loss to the district champs to move the little freshman's batting average to a team-leading .357. This very young team is doing better than we ever imagined, and 2B is having his best season since 12U AAU!
Congrats to both rwulf and 2Bmom for your sons' performances!

Rwulf, my heart goes out to your son's team having to play in such frigid weather.

My son's team continues its winning ways and is now 22-2 overall, 9-0 in district. Son had a good week, hitting .714 with 4 RBI's, 3 runs, 2 stolen bases, and a double. It has been a fun spring!
We had an incredible victory last night, against our league rival, a very good team, who we always battle with tooth and nail every year.

Their D-1 signee pitcher controlled us all game, and they hit the ball pretty well, leading us 4-0 in the bottom of the 7th. We had our 7th, 8th and 9th batters coming up in the 7th.

These three guys strung three cheap hits one after the other. A flare to left dropped in behind short, a slowly bouncing ball to short, and then a soft low pop-up just outside the third-baseman's diving reach up the line.

So, nobody out and the bases loaded, and things were getting interesting, with the top of our order now up. Our leadoff guy is another D-1 kid, a great hitting lefty who has signed with OSU.

He got down in the count 0-2, but worked the count full, and then absolutely crushed the 3-2 fastball over the right field fence to tie the game. There were quite a few people in the stands, this being a cross-town rival game, and it was as noisy as I've heard a HS regular season baseball game.

A couple of batters later my kid got on base with a single, was advanced to second on a ground ball, and then scored on a single (with an exciting play at the plate) to win the game.

You don't win many games that way. Glad we were on the winning end of it, because I know a lot of the kids on the other team and they were simply stunned.

Rob, sounds like an exciting game indeed! I'm curious to know how many were there to see the victory.

My son's team got a sweet victory of its own last night, defeating a district rival 5-1. A couple of the opposing team's players have batting averages over .500 after about 25 games this season and are pretty cocky; you can see it in their strut. One is a Stanford signee. One went 0-fer and the other had only 1 hit. It was a fun win.
Sons team came back from a 10-1 hole to tie it up in the bottom of the 7th. In the bottom of the 9th son came up with two outs and runners on first and second. He hit a 3-2 pitch past third to drive in the runner from second and end the game. The kids didnt give up and kept their heads in the game, and it paid off.
We won our first game last night 6-4. We also lost 6-5 last night vs. Lee High. We split the doubleheader. I was 3-4 with a strikeout,3 singles, one RBI, and one run scored. Great to have a good game after last game!

Today's game was cancelled because of the horrible rain. I also do not have practice for 4 days, good time!
Our team is 0-2, mostly because of lousy defense, especially up the middle. if we can sure that up, we can be better.

personally, my son is doing pretty good. He (catcher) picked a guy off 3rd base, and had three hits yesterday, including a bomb to left field that cleared the fence, the scoreboard, and landed about 400' from home plate. Furthest hit he's ever had.

now they gotta win some games..

All I can say is WOW. They really do things big in Texas!

Last season in a playoff series between CC Moody and CC Calallen down in Corpus Christi Texas there were reports of almost 20,000 in a 3 games series. Ctiger or Texan can you guys confirm? That number is amazing for high school baseball

From March 14, 2008 article in Corpus Christi Caller Times:

"There are plenty of high school baseball fans who think last year's Class 4A state championship was played at Whataburger Field, not The Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

"Corpus Christi's Class AA ballpark hosted a thrilling second-round playoff between Calallen and Moody, a matchup that attracted an average crowd of more than 6,000 each night. The Trojans survived the three-game series and went on to claim the state title four weeks later."

Mid-season update:
Team is 9-1, 4-0 in district. In 10 games, we have 4 shutouts (a school record). Meat of our district schedule starts this Friday as we have 4 games in 8 days (all against good competition).

Son is having solid season, hitting .462, being patient at the plate (11 BBs to go with his 12 hits) and continues to use his speed (11 SBs in 10 games).
We dropped 2 last night. I was 0-3 2 SO and a bunt groundout and a walk. Got more action last night then I had all year. Had probably 10-20 balls hit to me last night and I do believe I had 2 errors if that. By the time the 2 errors occured I was very very sick. My sugar had dropped big time and by the time the game was over I had literally no energy, horrible stomach cramps, and hands were shaking badly.
lebanonbb, I just love your posts! You have the earnest love of the game that I remember having -- just the sheer joy of playing, doing your best, win or lose. Thanks for reminding me of what it was like to ride my bike up to the field in town and play baseball. It was the purest of times!

Good luck on the rest of your season, and keep posting!
In our area the top two Nationally ranked teams played one another (Paul VI @ St. John's) w/ Paul VI winning 5-4. It was a great game and with this win improves Paul VI (kid's team) to 7-0 in the WCAC conference and 16-0 over all. St. John's is now 5-2 in WCAC conference and 11-4 over all. Paul VI has outscored it's opponents this year 161-39 and since 2005 hold an over all record of 93-17 and 41-6 at home.
