Future: congrats!! We played last night in winds you would not believe. The highest gust for the day was 59... it was steady 35-40. The first game we won 23-20: you now know which way the wind was blowing. It was incredibly difficult for the pitcher and the fielders on every hit ball. The second game we lead 8-6 after 5, suspended darkness. We are 7-0 with lots of tough ones ahead.
Thanks Krakatoa, really appreciate it! As you guys can see my hitting has been up and down this year. I'm still batting over .500 though so obviously not all that bad. Still haven't missed an inning yet this year and honestly my goal is not to miss one at all. Got to say I'm not TO disappointed in myself but I'm for sure not rejoicing over the game either. Next game is wed. so I'll keep you guys informed.
Tonight is our last regular season game and senior night. Frown I hope we can give the seniors a win! If so, we'll be 14-10. 2B has had a fantastic season, and it's been a lot of fun. District tournament starts Monday.

Summer team practice begins May 14, first tournament is over the Memorial Day weekend, so thankfully the withdrawal won't last too long.
Up up and awaaaaay the homeruns went,..right over the center field fence! 1-2-3,....they are outta here!!! Whoo hooooo!!! I think one of the bats on our team, just might literally be on fire. Fun to watch,..especially because this player has really come into his zone after many years of being cold.
Its GREAT to watch!! Always knew he had it in him!!!

Well, regular season is over and son’s hs team claimed the district championship. State Playoffs start at the end of this week. It was a really tough road, three of the teams in son’s district were ranked in the top 6 of the state for most of the season. One other team was ranked in the top ten also. Son’s team went 24 and 6 for the season and 9 and 3 in district play. Very exciting district games with plenty of 1 run games; competition was fierce. Son went 9 and 1 on the mound for the season and was undefeated on the mound in district play. His bat is on fire right now, hopefully it stays hot. We have a great group of kids who win together and lose together. If someone wasn’t hitting or made a couple of errors, the team just picked them right back up. I am so proud of the way they conduct themselves on and off the field. Oh, and a great group of coaches also, I sent each of them an email last week thanking them for every thing they do for these boys.

Team has been in a bit of a skid, son is having a great year but would rather be winning. Had a MUST win game Sat. as the guys had really rallied around themselves and were pumped up and motivated. We were up 4 to zip in the 5th. I left to take #2 son somewhere. My husband calls and says "other team has scored 6 in the top of 6th and has two outs and "your" son is on the mound warming up to pitch". Let me say, first, its his son too and second, son is really not a pitcher. He throws 89 m.p.h. but is either really on or really off. So, the fact that he was on the mound was scary. Got the 3rd out about the time I arrived back at the field. Then we had a guy smash a bases loaded triple to score 3, my son hit him in so we were up 8 to 6. Top of 7th we got them out 3 up, 3 down and son struck 2 out. One of the best wins ever b/c mentally our team had to have it and you could tell they were not going to let anyone take the win away!! Son had 4 RBIs and team was ecstatic. Hopefully we have moved past the skid. Still have 8 or so games before state.

(Future, how exciting to catch for the FIRST no-hitter! Congrats)

2BMom, did y'all win?

Yes, IF08 we did win - 7-4 - thanks for asking. Smile It was a fun, well-played game against a quality team. The seniors had a great night. And yesterday we won our quarterfinal district game in an ugly 14-18 contest. We had 'em 18-4 going into the 5th, and our coach brought in the non-starters. Our opponent did not roll over, and it got kinda scary! We barely escaped with the W, but everyone got in and we didn't use our #1 or 2 pitchers, so that's good. Tonight we face the #1 team in our district in the semi-finals. It'll be tough, but I think we can take 'em.

louisiana09 and HitaHomer1, you must both be so proud of your boys! Congratulations on their great seasons.
We just started the second half of our 16-game season last night. We won 13-12 in a see-saw game with 31 combined hits between the teams. We were losing 10-8 in the top of the seventh. Nine hitter (hasn't had a hit since the first couple of games) singles with two outs. Next batter reaches on error. Next batter - HBP. Next batter, BB and we are losing 10-9. Son hits a grand-slam in the top of the 7th to put us up by three and we survived a shakey two-runs allowed save to get the win. We are now 5-4. Need to win the three "ought to win" games and go 2-2 in the other four (managed 2-2 in the first half against these teams) to have a chance at the playoffs. Son is having a nice season - 9 games, 32 AB, 18 hits, 6 HR including 2 GS, 28 RBI, 13 Runs, 10 SB, .563 Avg, .588 OBP, 1.156 SLG.
Well, what do you know. We won the semi-final game! 2-0 against the #1 seed and a state-ranked team. It's on to the district championship tomorrow night, and then regionals. Who woulda thunk it? Almost everyone thought we'd be done by now.

Our senior pitcher was brilliant, and he got some awesome defense, including our freshman middle infielders - who look like freshmen, but play like they're older in baseball years. Smile

Go Blue Wave!
Monday we won with a walkoff by our catcher in the last inning to win it 8-7 with 2 outs and bases loaded. I went 0-2 with a ground out and a SO. Yesterday played a double header, first game we lost 1-2. I threw the ball in to our catcher as the winning run came in and the catcher didn't get the ball and it rolled right through his legs. We lost 1-2 and I was once again 0-2 with 2 SO's. The next game I was benched because after my catcher missed the ball I threw my glove and he said I didn't deserve to be out there with that attitude. That game we 11-1 with me doing nothing but sitting on the bench. He said he has to consider playing me next game also.
lebanonbb, I hope things go better for you next game.

Well, we lost our district championship game 10-5, but are really proud of the boys for what they have accomplished this season. We aren't quite finished yet - the top two district teams qualify for regionals, so we play away on Tuesday. Win or lose, it should be fun.

The disappointment came this morning when our local newspaper chose to bash our sophomore pitcher instead of celebrating the accomplishments of the winning team's offense. The story began, "[pitcher] pitched three perfect innings, but the next 1 1/2 was a disaster." This young man made a game-saving play at 3B in the bottom of the 7th in the semi-final. I hope he is able to remember that, and not get too down on himself because of some idiot reporter.

This season has had its ups and downs for us this year but mainly for my son. As a team we are battling for the 4th and last spot in our Region for playoff's. Next week is our last week with 3 games, 1 being against the Region leader. Up until this past Monday we had a shot of easily taking the 4th spot and even moving into 3rd. However, it was made known on Monday that 6 players were kicked off the team for serious discipline problems and that hurt. We now have only 2 Seniors on the team with my son being one. I'm so very proud of him for not being one of the others that got busted and removed from the team. I commend the Coach for taking the stance that he did. But boy, the players we lost in this fiasco. The friends I lost this season who are now dealing with more serious issues at a time they had hoped to be enjoying watching their son(s) play ball.

Personally, son is having a banner year. Batting .400 with 3 HR's, approx. 25 rbi's (He never gives me the exact quantity but just says, "I'm around"...lol. He has pitched 57 innings thus far and has a 0.86 ERA (from coach).
YoungGunDad, so sorry to hear about the misfortunes of your son's team. I'm sure there are many devastated people right now. Even the best kids can make boneheaded mistakes that come back to haunt them. I feel so bad for all of them and for the team as it struggles to get back on solid footing.

Congrats to your son on his excellent season! Best wishes as the team finishes its regional play. May your son lead his teammates in mowing down the opposition this coming week!
We completed our regular season yesterday. We finished 19-5 10-0 and we are currently ranked #5 in the state. This senior class has won 4 consecutive conference championships with a conf record of 38-2. I am very proud of our team and our seniors. Their leadership on and off the baseball field has been a big reason for our success. We have 5 sr's this year and they sport a 3.6 gpa. All five will be attending college next year. Three will continue their baseball careers.

Our conference tourney is next week and then its off to the state playoffs. We hope to make another great run and of course win a state title. But they are already big winners in my eyes. Our team has some young guys that have bought in to the theory of what you do in the off season dictates what you are capable of doing during the season. I am very proud of our team.
Coach May, Best of luck to you indeed and for those who havn't heard our beloved Coach May will be joining the Dirtbags full time starting this summer.....see link below and picture. Congrats Coach and let us know how the play offs go for you guys. On another note....boy's team suffered their first loss of the year today, it was just one of those days I suppose. In the end, if it were going to happen, I'm glad it happened today. Hopefully this will be one less distraction for them going to their own play offs starting next week. Paul VI HS baseball is now 21-1 on the year and 12-1 in the WCAC w/ 3 more reg. season games this week and then the start of the play offs.

Coach May
Thank you very much j2h6. What better way is there to see so many talented players throughout the year? I look forward to going back to East Cobb and Jupiter as well as Fort Myers. Ive already got some exciting players on board for this coming season that I am really excited about working with. I even have one from Virginia already! Good luck in the playoffs as well.

I think we will be reading a lot more about trainscout_Jr. Since the StL P-D does such a great job covering HS sports, please post again when it gets printed. Thanks and huge congrats.

The regular season now complete, team went 14-2 in conference play and 23-2 over all, receives #1 seed going into post season play which starts Monday. There's just two weeks left to play and along w/ this being P's last year of high school ball, how the season has flown by. It's been a great ride regardless of how the post season shakes, and I'm very proud of P and all of his teammates.
Well, the season flew by as I knew it but just could never make myself believe it back on Feb. 23rd when we started. I just KNEW it would last for months and months. sighs.

After the tumultous late-season let down of the 6 upper classman who got dismissed from the team, we game within 1 game of locking up the 4th place spot for the playoff's but lost it on the last game of the season. We finished 16-10 overall with a 13-9 Region record.

Younggun had a great season, but more importantly, a fun and maturing season. He finished 7-3 with 2 saves. He had 76IP I think with a 0.91 ERA. He shattered the school record by a pitcher that held it with a 1.55 ERA with same amount of IP. Offensively, he battet around .390 but I don't have the particulars, i.e. hits, rbi's. I do know he had 3 hr's..lol.
Sadly, son's team lost in the 2nd round of the state playoffs, it was one of those games where they just couldn't get the bats going. Son and some of his teammates took it really hard. The team had a great season finishing 26 and 7. Team set a school record for most wins in school history. On the upside, the team is only losing 3 starters, the rest of the starters will be back next year. Son starts spring football on Monday and will be playing on his summer team by the end of this month. Good luck to everyone and may our boys stay injury free!
I don't have a boy on our team but it is my old high school and hopefully my boy will make the team next season.

The boys went into the district tourney as the no. 1 seed and came out as the runner up. We beat the neighboring county's best and are now headed to a best 2 of 3 match-up for the regional final. This time next week we could be making plans for the final four.

The exciting thing is that we have been without our projected no. 1 pitcher the whole year and our replacement no. 1 pitcher since before the playoffs. Our starting 3rd baseman and ss have become starting pitchers. Both have done well.

Good luck to all.
I have my final 8th grade tournament tommorow and saturday. I had a junior league scrimmage today in which i went 1-1 with a single and was walked once. I also pitched an inning. first batter-groundout to the mound, second batter-strikeout, third batter-was hit, fourth batter-groundout. Not bad since I havent pitched in a couple months, except for the other day in practice where coach had me pitch for 2 batters and I struck both of them out.
