What about Prestonwood Christian? I heard that they were getting a 6'4 lefty from the Tigers now 17 year old team and a new 89 MPH pitcher from C------. Put those 2 with Cameron Rupp-DBAT, Joh Paterson-Mustangs, Jordo Swaggerty- Tigers, Hunter Hill-Mustangs,Collin Coats-Ex Tigers, Cody Brooks-Giants, Chay Lytle- DBAT, Luke Johnson-Patriots, Travis Hughes, Mike Stratton-Mustangs, Jerry Owens and the other select players on their team, they should be pretty good.

What is this hang man?

I'll play, I'm your huckleberry.

C O P P E L L

The only pitcher from that team close to 89 mph is Cole Green and he is better than that. I did hear that last years JV # 2 was going to quit baseball because he thought he wouldn't get a shot on Varsity in 2007. He will be a Senior this year. If it is true, the kid had OK velocity , 82 -84 mph and good location. Good kid, good family. Maybe he had a good summer season that convinced him to giving it a shot somewhere else.

Earlier I mentioned Lake Dallas as a team to watch in 4A due to their new coach and I would like to add that I ran into one of their returning Varsity pitchers today, he is an 07 LHP and I haven't seen this guy in a year or so, read a lot about him last year (stats in the paper) and he is now over 6'0", has put on a lot of muscle this year and I know he is a very talented/crafy lefty with one of the best pickoff moves around so I again say,,,,,,,,,watch for Lake Dallas this year.

I know 1 player does not make a team,,,,,,,,,but he will add a lot to this team and be one to watch this year,he has been under the radar wayyyyy to long and I heard he has just joined up with a big time Fall Team that will give him lots of much deserved exposure.....And get this he is #1 (academically) in his class... Brains and Talent... YOOOOO HOOOOOO

5-5A will be again one of the toughest districts in the region.

I look for Southlake, Colleyville, Keller and possibly Haltom to be right in the mix.

Keller returns only 3 starters, their ace and two other pitchers that were on Varsity last year. They have a talented group of Seniors moving up from JV and a large number of talented Sophomores and Juniors that will compete for 4 or 5 starting spots.

Look for Kaleb Merck (08) and Kendall Boone (07) to be the backbone of the offense this year, with Merck or Little Stafford to be the number 2 behind Big Stafford.

Losing 2 Division 1 signees and a kid now playing in the minors will be tough. In order to win, they will need to play dirtbag baseball.

The big question for Keller will be how they will replace Monk Kreder behind the plate, an impossible task if you ask me.

Don't count out Northwest yet, we may be new
to 5A and it will be a younger team, but our
guys have got a lot of heart, you never know. Big Grin

I will be keeping an eye out since they have new didtrict this year... will this help them or hurt them.. ( meaning will this be a tougher district than last year). Also who are some from that district we need to watch for? I heard Rowlett is full of talent and Rockwall has lost some?
TCA returns several players from their 6A TAPPS State Championship team:

Austin Parker P
Michael Pair 3B/P
William Schultz P/OF
James Foster OF/P
Keeson Martin DH/1B

Ft Worth Nolan also returns several from their TAPPS 6A, 3rd place team:

Mark Picca P / 1B
Jarrett Disinski C / P
Tim Clark OF / P
Matt Busch 3B / 2B
Greg Govea OF / P
Chris Rodriguez INF / P
Kyle Smith M-INF
Paul Gonzales OF / P

Does anyone know where Michael Pair played this summer?
Not sure on Pair, I think last summer he was w/the Mustangs, don't remember seeing him around this summer and many years ago I remember him catching and pitching w/the old Coppell Cowboys. Pair, Shultz and Foster what a trio of arms.

With the experience and the players they are returning at TCA, and after coming off of an undeafted season they should have another run for a 2nd Ring.
OBN,
Sincerly appreciate the encouraging words toward Hebron - we're usually way under the radar for anyone to even notice. We cast a rather large football shadow, and baseball sometimes seems like an afterthought (welcome to Texas, right?). I don't know what to expect moving up to our new district, but I agree that the competition will be outstanding. Coppell, Flower Mound, Marcus, Smith and Creekview will be solid. Don't know how much Lewisville. We have some solid returning starters, but pitching depth will be the big question heading into the season. Coach Stone might also be looking at a couple of sophomores to contribute somewhere on the field (not necessarily on the mound) from the Freshman team that went 25-1 last spring. Bottom line: We've got our work cut out for us, but there is some talent to build on.

This year I predict:

Marcus
Flower Mound
Newman Smith
Coppell

to represent our district in post season play.... (the above is in no particular order).

Newman Smith, from what I have been told, might have a couple new Sr.'s added to their roster (a S/S and an OF) so won't know their depth till preseason......look for Sprinkle to add something to the team this year on the mound along with a catcher that recorded a 1.97 pop time this past summer at PG.......

FMHS returns 7 of 9 starters from last year with Popescu (DBAT 17 team), Neal (Carpenter Mustangs),UT verbal T. Sheppard and don't forget behind the plate Pharr...and rumor has it they have a Sr. ex catcher now OF that might be doing some pitching for them this year and he has been hitting low 90's on the radar......

Marcus will have a scrapppy team just like last year but with no big/known names, you can gtd. they will play solid defense and their Coach has a successful formula for putting it all together for total team play. They should get their playoff slot this year...and they have a big dedicated senior class that is more than HUNGRY to prove something......

Lewisville will be strong again this year and could be in playoff position for the 2nd year in a row with Choate leading the way.......

Coppell, we all know what they have and they will be strong, once again........

Hebron: first year in 5A with much success in 4A could come out with a bang or need a year to transition into the fold....then watch out, they have had success and expect success.

That is what I know out of our district
Surething,

The Rock, like any other team, always goes through changes and faces new challenges. They will have a determined team with alot of heart. We'll just have to see how they look in the spring. However, with ML moving to McKinney North, and now, Big Phil to have TJ surgery pitching is a question. Looks like there are some guys ready to step up, but those are awfully big shoes to fill.

Rowlett has a very talented ball club, and can play with anybody. This district will be no walk in the park for anyone. Most of the kids play together or against each other all year, and the teams are very familiar with each other. So a strong district to watch. Ought to be a lot of fun...se ya at the park.

Not sure who ML is for sure I was referring to the kid that went to Arkansas ( just thought that that may hurt or was told that would hurt rather... don't know anything about any of the other pitching at Rowlett ot Rockwall, Just know what I was told. Unless they have been mentioned on this board alot wouldn't know who they are, But hope i will be watching some of them this year.

Surething,

You were originally referring to Travis Moseley, who is going to Arkansas.......I think anyway.

ML is Matt Lackie, who moved to McKinney last month and was one of the starters last year at Rockwall and will be a junior this year. I have also heard that an upcoming junior named Richard Parson, who was going to be counted to throw some quality innings on varsity next spring has also had shoulder surgery and may be done for the spring as well. Losing Moseley to graduation, Lackie to a move, Clinard to Tommy John and Parson to shoulder surgery, the Rock has some really big shoes to fill no doubt. But there is not better Coach than Coach Payne to know how to handle this situation and make the best of it. Looks to me like Ty Lunday, Garrett Henderson and Cody Fields will see plenty of action on the mound next spring. Colin Elmore is another kid who can pitch, but he's coming back from TJ himself and may be limited on how much pitching he can do. I wish Coach Payne all the best. He's a great man!

Thanks for the kind words about tguf's son.
You have a son with the same tools and talent.
I'm not so sure that tguf's son will ever be on anyones radar. But it is a great honor to be asked to play with (IMHO) the best organization around.
Like KD, we realize it's just a two month tryout, but nonetheless it's an honor and is priceless as far as exposure and experience goes.

As far as Lake Dallas goes, I really think they are overlooked every year, even though they have made the playoffs 11 years in a row.
I have spoken to coach Matlock at length and he truly has a passion for baseball. Lake Dallas is fortunate to have him as their new coach and tguf son will benefit greatly if only for one year. If we can hit the ball a little better than we did last year and we can add some depth to the pitching, I think we will be a very competetive team in 9-4A this year.
One thing that will be a little different this year is our #1 and #2 will be lefties who will not beat you with their fastballs like Jones and Harden did the last couple of years, but will pick you apart with location, location, location, changeups and curves. Then an average fastball will seem a little harder. They both are very good pitchers.

p.s I guess my sons academic achievments are a direct result of me really hitting the books hard in grades 1 thru 12. Big Grin

OP,

Not sure if your sources are very credible. This causes rumors and misinformation about players. Personally, I think you should get the facts straight first.

You're exactly right. Should have been more careful before posting that. Point well taken and will use better judgement in the future. Thank you for letting me know.

OBN - I believe TCA was undefeated in district play only....I think there were some loses in pre-season play and non-district games.

TCA won their final 16 games in a row to finish the season after some early preseason tournament losses. They finished the season 22-8-2 and have a strong senior and junior class returning. They will have to replace 7 seniors including everything up the middle, and one senior pitcher.

No one should overlook Lake Dallas, with or without Matlock. They beat Hebron twice last year to keep us out of the playoffs - the second time on a walk-off home run in the ninth inning (they had tied it in the sixth) - and return some kids who can put the ball in play. They just don't give up. We finished in a third-place tie in the district, but lost out by virture of the two LD losses.
By the way, they've got one of the great fields and facilities in far North Dallas. So do a lot of schools represented here, but I was really impressed with the field maintenance and "the view" for fans. Hey, I appreciate all the little things about HS baseball.
You are right Hawkman,

When the facility was built for a 3A school a few years back, it was considered one of the finest 3A facilities anywhere. Now in 4A it is still one of the top facilities around.

I do recall playing you guys both times last year and both games could have gone either way.
The second game was a classic with both pitchers (Bartlotti Hawks) and (Harden Falcons) being on.
This is how the Denton paper wrote it.

Falcons win on walk-off blast

By Joel Brillant / For The Denton Record-Chronicle
CORINTH — Gene Zie-schang hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday night as Lake Dallas dramatically defeated District 9-4A foe Hebron, 4-3.
“With two outs, bottom of the ninth inning, got to score one run, I just told myself go up there you’re not striking out, just go up there, swing the bat, get on base and just do what you can,” Zieschang said.
“I can’t even explain how it felt. That was the second home run of my life, and it was the best feeling I’ve ever had. A walk-off home run I’ve never had one in my life. Hitting in the eight-hole you don’t expect people to do that. I came up there and just produced.”
The Hawks (9-11, 4-4) got a solid performance on the mound from starting pitcher John Bartlotti (3-3), who struck out nine batters using curve balls and off-speed pitches to silence the Lake Dallas bats through the first five innings.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Falcon offense came to life as Adam Boydston, Michael Murray and Boo Rodriguez registered consecutive singles and loaded the bases with no outs.
By the end of the inning, Lake Dallas was clawing its way back into the contest as it put two runs on the board after Trevor Harden and Austin Chambers hit ground balls to the right side of the infield, driving in both runs.
“Our kids came out knowing it was not so much a do-or-die situation, but if we wanted to stay in the hunt in this district we had to go ahead and produce,” Falcons head coach Stacy Largent said.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Zieschang produced and proved to be the Falcons’ catalyst as he drove a 2-2 pitch from Bartlotti to the left-field wall.
After a throwing error, Zieschang ended up on third base with no outs, giving Lake Dallas an opportunity to stretch the game into extra innings.
After one out, Chase Baine laid down a perfect bunt as Zieschang sprinted home tying the game at three apiece.
Zieschang provided more heroics for the Falcons in extra innings when he blasted a solo shot to left field to end the game.
Ouch, that hurts just reading it. . .
Bartlotti did pitch a great game, but the Falcons got to him when they needed to. This game was also memorable to Hawk mom and myself as Hawk son took a 90-plus fastball from Harden directly on the side of his right knee. Quite honestly, I was thinking broken leg or shattered kneecap. Fortunately, and thankfully, he eventually picked himself up and wasn't seriously hurt. That bruise stayed with him for more than a week - a reminder of how hard Harden throws!
Trevor could be wild at times. My son was drilled by Rhett Varner (spelling ?) of Northwest in the side by a 90-plus fastball. I think he still has a bruise.

Does your son still play for the Hawks?
My son will be a senior this year and is slated penciled in as the #1 guy. I guess it's his to lose. With a new coach you never know.

Good luck to the Hawks this year. Maybe we will see you in a tournament or two.

Good luck to the Falcons, too. You all should do well in the district again. Yes, oldest Hawk son will be a senior and was all-district infielder last season. Youngest Hawk son will be a sophomore. It would be great to run into all of you in a tournament. . .although we don't exactly have a stellar record against you all.

My son will be on Rowlett's varsity this year and I think a couple of teams everyone is forgetting are Naaman Forest and South Garland. Naaman was district champs last year with their ace coming back and a junior pitcher Ty Herrick who has a worked really hard and has some really good breaking stuff. South Garland went a few rounds deep in the playoffs and has a lefthanded junior pitcher named Stephen Nowitcki (sp?) who also is very good. Coach Robertson always puts a competitive team on the field.
Every district game should be a blast to watch and every game will affect the playoff picture.
Overlook one game and you could be sittin at home during the playoffs. JMO

Oh, you didn't upset me at all. I was just adding some information on some of the teams that could make some noise or even win that district. Sorry if you felt like you upset me because there was no animosity in my statement. I was just stating my opinions.
