I have 2 2021's. They have a coach that has been texting and calling them both. He invited them to a camp last month but they couldn't attend, one due to hamstring problem and the other because of cross country meet, he was trying to get all-conference again.

The coach texted again asking them if they could attend a camp next month since they missed the last one. Here is the issue, the one with the hamstring issue has more than just a hamstring and has a MRI scheduled for next week and the other one hurt his non throwing shoulder playing football last week and has an MRI scheduled for this week. So with one that can not squat or run and the other can not even hold a bat right now there is no way to attend.

Here is my question, how long will a coach keep in touch if there is always an excuse for not attending. They are both interested in the school and hate they may miss a good opportunity but nothing can be done about injuries.

For what it's worth, none of the schools that offered my son asked him to attend their camps.  Two of them scheduled his visit the week after their camp, so they certainly could have.  They liked him because of what they saw on the field in tournaments.  I gained a measure of respect for these coaches for not pulling the old "come to my camp so my whole staff can see you."  He did go to  camps at three other schools due to that pitch, and none of those schools offered or even gave him much notice at the camp.

Do you have any idea what timeline the college coach is working on for giving offers to 2021's who play the applicable positions?  Depending on the answer, your sons can just tell the coach that they are definitely interested in the school but don't do camps this time of year as they are focused on other sports and are not in top baseball shape.

I have to point something out with your comment...

"...and hate they may miss a good opportunity but nothing can be done about injuries."

Truth is we make the difficult decision whether to allow our boys to continue playing other sports (particularly football) junior and senior year, knowing that the risk of injury is there and is a potential consequence of our decisions, as well as them not being in top playing shape for fall/winter baseball recruiting events.  I'm not saying it is the wrong decision (in fact, we usually made the same choice) but it is something that is in our control.  I've seen far too many college baseball recruiting efforts and careers derailed due to either injury or being too beat up to show well at key recruiting events.  We need to own our decisions.

Best to them!

Thanks for the input. I will have them check on the timeline and I do understand they would not be in tip top baseball form this time of year due to playing other sports. They both quit basketball this year to focus on preseason baseball instead of only getting to do it on their own time as in the past.

As far as the injuries I agree with you 100% that it is my choice to let them play and take a chance of getting hurt. I worded it wrong, I meant to say there is nothing to be done about the injuries now. Trust me I have been kicking myself all weekend for letting him play. Hind sight is 20/20.

When does a coach move on from a player? When he finds better talent. It could be five days or five months.

 So true.

Thanks for the input, I will tell them to get mended and if there is still an opportunity then we will persure it then, and if not we will keep working until the next one.
