Some quick thoughts from Beezer:

The initial class should be bigger than "3-5" since there are more than 5 who are worthy. In the big picture, having an initial induction of 10 or so worthy nominees (and there are at least that many) would be a fitting honor.

In year two, adopt the 3-5 rule.

Looking at OPP's designation, it seems too long. "Hall of famer" says it all.

My votes would go to Fungo, Woodrow, Bob, Mom, PG, OPP and TR Hit....just don't tell him I voted for him though!!!

Some additional worthy candidates that I don't know as well would be Beenthere and bbscout.

I would also include ClevelandDad since he's the leader of one of the fastest growing boards, the OH/KY/PA/WV group and a pretty good moderator as well.

Oh gosh Beez...If by Woodrow you mean this baseball lovin' guy named Wilson...

"Wilson would be a good player if he weren't so dammed lazy." - Comment by the Team Captain of Wilson's Davidson College.

And as for ClevelandDad taking the helm of the OH/KY/PA/WV board and turning it into the fastest growing board on the HSBBW...his "post one, get one post free" strategy to attract traffic may be driving that board's numbers up in the short term, but I think once everyone sees through this retail ploy they will take their posting elsewhere...

Hmmm.. I didn't get that deal.

Here are my nominations, and I feel, like everyone else, that Bob and MN-Mom are automatic.

Fungo
BBscout
TRHit
OPP
PIAAUmp
OK, Bob and Mom are automatic, because without them there would be no HSBBWeb. I really liked darn near all the posters when I first came aboard, as they were funny, helpful, smart and made it fun to log on and visit with them. There are a bunch of HOF posters....Principal, TR, OPP, Fungo, Hi Vol, Bama Bomber,Bighit15, Beenthere, Its, PGstaff Jerry, Infielddad,Formerobserver,Prepster, hokieone, Clevelanddad, Redbird, TARatko, HHH, DiamondbackMom, TPM, Bullmoose and whole bunch more. Those are some of the old timers, and there are a bunch of "young veterans" who are on their way to earning nominations. Smile

Bob And Julie are the Mays and Mantle of this site and deserve to go in the HOF before anyone else.

Bob and Julie deserve to have there statue's out front of the HSBBW Hall of Fame.
In a class all by themselve's.

And anybody else that has stuck around on this site to help
with advice as long as you bbscout, Fungo, OPP, TRHit,PIAAUmp,Beenthere,Its, PGstaff, and there are so many I could name.
I'm just a short timer and do not know all the previous poster's that only show up once in awhile to give advice.
It is surely is welcome.

Your all on my Hall of Fame list.

Wow, we might have to consider a slightly larger "class" of inductees for the first round. Look at this LIST OF NOMINEES so far (listed by date):

(Old site only?? - I can't find him!)

* Most of the OldTimers know this, but of course the DATE REGISTERED for a lot of these folks is misleading. The site temporarily closed down due to server problems, and 12/26/02 is the date Bob re-opened it here on this server. It would be interesting to hear the actual registration dates for everyone.

I will personally hold up picket signs outside MNMOMs house, go on Larry King, and if necessary Springer if PIAA is not elected. I might even get violent and try to make a snowball and throw it at someone……as long as they are within 20 feet or so. Problem is we haven’t seen snow in Atlanta for a long while – can you buy that stuff at K-mart?

Givens:

FUNGO
TRHIT
MNMOM
Bob
GOTWOOD – Just because
PGStaff
ITS

But look out folks the rising class can play – you better keep your A game up. Got folks that can keep this sight going for years to come. FUNGO, I used Justbaseballs new math – I think you and I are both older then Moses.
Bum, there have been some very good suggestions on how to do this. I first wanted to post the list of nominees so people would get a good look at how MANY truly deserving Hall of Famers we have!

There may still be more nominations to come in which is fine. But also maybe now we can ask for suggestions on how many can be inducted on this first round, and whether to do a general vote, or vote by committee.

How does the MLB Hall of Fame voting work?

I initially agreed with the idea of a general vote, but it can be difficult for newer members to have an accurate idea of just how much some of these Old Timers meant to the beginning of this site, way back before 12/26/2002.

Maybe for this first round, in order to honor the early members who were almost joint "founders" of the site with Bob, the voting should be done by members who remember the days before this site, and each of them would send me a private ballot with their top 6 or 8 or 10 choices? Just a suggestion.

Julie, I think your idea of having the voting done by the long term members is a great way to go. Members from back when the graphic were different, with different colors, you know what I mean.

Is there any way we can go in to find out the date of our initial registration, before the new server came online? I know that I first came around here somewhere around 2002, but can't remember when. It's an age thing, you know?

Good Point!!!! I have always wondered how that FUNGO guy could hit the "point" of a thread so well. I think we should have mandatory testing for all those who might be HOF....of course for the parents of pitchers we might want to allow them a higher level of drug/alcohol levels. Maybe the same for coaches and umps.
Hmmm,...I dont find the relevance with

quote:
they are not in an office working for someone
,

or

quote:
when I say that some have more time than others to contribute---

but I do agree with quality over quantity.

The message and the way it is presented ( tone & intent ) are valued ( & very appreciated ) qualities to me while reading and learning on the HSBBW. Smile

Funny you mention that. While reflecting back, I was thinking there was a different look when I first started coming here. I'm not sure when I first started lurking but it took me quite a while to get the nerve up to register and post.
I'd agree that there certainly are some members who have contributed far beyond expectations and am grateful to have had them around .. there are too many to name without leaving someone out

many new websters depending what their needs or questions were would have comletely different sets folks who were instrumental/important in helping them.

here comes the "however"

one of the stenghths of hsbbweb has always been that we're all hsbbweb family on equal footing.
When Bob started this thing back in the (pre) Rivals days, he referred to himself as "head cook & bottlewasher" ... that certainly gave us websters a comfort factor, the feeling that he was just "one of us", the one with a vision of bringing us together to gather info & discuss & solve relevant issues - he & other knowlegable posters were approachable, we could disagree or hold an opposing viewpoint without being frowned upon or cast into limbo

I'll probably be a lone voice (what else is new?), but that was "good" & my aspirations were to simply to ask mostly intelligent questions when I needed help, and when possible help others the way the "head bottlewasher" intended.

when I think of outstanding contributors, I need only look as far as each & every webster who ever posted in a "golden thread" topic, & not far behind would be every webster who has ever posted a question or an answer

just my 2 cents

Bee>

ps - a special thanks to MnMom for taking over the bottlewashing Smile

If you would like Bum, I could give you some tips or lessons on how to race to the 500th lap...and beyond...way beyond!

Hint: You gotta' keep your finger to the keyboard...post fast and furious...no rough drafts...and schedule your digit stops wisely...and take advantage of the caution flags as your fellow posters spin out and smack the wall...steer clear of them and go for it!

And once you've grabbed that checkered flag don't slow down...just keep goin'...forever!

...and 44...about the bus...the one from Pollock Pines Elementary School District is definitely mine.

Kesey's was a fine bus for sure, but they tended to add too many chemical additives to their fuel for my liking.
