My son is a 2011 RHP and recently was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the elbow. He will have it repaired this summer and hopes to be recovered by fall baseball. He pitched the other day in a game an sat 87-88 for two innings. He has plans to attend a few Jr. College showcases in the next few weeks with hopes of getting an offer to play next year.
My question to parents and coaches who may have experienced this is how would a college coach feel about extending an offer to someone who is injured. His Doctor has indicated that he will return to pitching, pain free, once the fracture has healed with no long term issues.

I am not sure whether any surgery is 100% guaranteed as it is all up to the rehab, in other words, how hard do you want to work to get back to 100%.

Why is your son still pitching with a stress fracture?
I think your plan is realistic. Many junior colleges will be interested as their real roster count isn't till spring and many will red-shirt a player if necessary( a whole different issue). Junior colleges will take a risk if your honest with them. Some D2's and NAIA's will take a chance as well because they do not have a roster limit. Remember no team has enough pitching provided you can play at their level.
I'm more than a little bit surprised that he seems to be throwing with a stress fracture, especially given that the planned treatment is surgery.

The normal treatment for this is about 8 weeks of rest followed by a gradual return to throwing. Surgery is something one avoids when other options are available.
Agreed that throwing with a stress fracture wasn't smart. His doctor has advise that rest and rehab is the first course of action to take.

RHP is now contacting coaches at JC's he would like to play for asking about walking on. He is up front with them and if asked have provded doctors report.

If nothing comes from his contacts he will register at one of the schools and tryout in the fall. He is confident in his ability to pitch at this level and is waiting on his oppurtunity to tryout.
