Not much home work done on this list. In fact, it looks like you just drew them out of a hat. Kingwood has 2 returning starters and they are ranked #6 in the state?? Klein Collins lost 5 seniors who produced 95% of all their runs and they are #2 in the state?? Clements has NO proven pitching at all and they are #8 in the state?? The #1 ranked team in Houston is only #24 in the state?? The #3 ranked team in Houston is not in the top 25 in the state?? Com'on, this guy needs to do his homework.
Too bad that you only get in Jason Becker's TBN if the HS baseball coach likes you. Clearly some of them are unaware what their players are doing during their select season, once again clearly out playing the coaches favorites. Hummmmmmm . . . there are many exceptional players not listed and some of those listed could never make our area select teams.

No! Thats just typical of that publication. No credibility what so ever.
Since I know a little about 5A Region 1, I'll throw this out there for some rating and debating...

5A Region 1 Top 10...in alphabetical order so I do not offend anyone, plus I have to play these guys. I chose these teams based on how they did last year and what they have coming back.

Arlington Martin
Colleyville Heritage
Coppell
El Paso Socorro
El Paso Franklin
Fort Worth Paschal
Keller
Odessa Permian
Lubbock Monterey
El Paso Franklin
I'm not saying the list is 100% accurate (of course, no preseason poll is) but Becker does provide the research obtained to support his list. And it does not appear to be just tips from his coaching "friends". Has anyone actually read the reasons for his selections and not just the list? I'm not sure Becker should get blasted over his selections. There will always be disagreements with every poll. The college football pollsters weren't too accurate this past season with their preseason poll. Heck, the pollsters predicted Hillary would be a distant 2nd in New Hampshire.

I'm surprised people are fuming over the list. My preseason prediction: Some of the teams listed will end up higher, some listed will end up lower and some not listed will end up on the final list. Smile
Expo37,

Becker's magazine has by far the most information on Texas high school baseball, more than any other publication. He does a great job putting this together. Think how many high schools there are in this state. Some have been hurt by his predictions in the past and they can't let it go. The fact is, if you want info on a lot of schools around the state, you can't beat this publication.

PD,
It will hit the Barnes & Nobles mid February.
I emailed Becker and his magazine will be out February 4.

The Colleyville Heritage team is loaded. They return all their starting pitching from last year, along with several D-1 signees or likely signees in the field. I have seen a number of these kids play for several years and they will be very tough...Becker is right on there.

I also think Keller should be ranked higher, but those two team will play at least twice this year, so the better team should be apparent at that point.

Houston coach, I am just a silly dad, and I love the magazine, but in the magazine it says Kingwood has 13 varsity contributers and 5 returning position starters back. Just an FYI, they do name all the players. I agree it is just a list, but it is kind of fun for us poppas.

For what it's worth, I looked at the Kingwood roster and as reported, they do have 13 returning varsity contributors and 5 returning position starters. Not all 13 contributed significantly, and not all 5 started all the time.

It will depend a lot on their pitching (duh), but a #6 rank seems kinda high...

My understanding is that the magazine with the rankings was handed out at the THSBCA convention last week in Waco to all the coaches in attendance.
I called the number and spoke to someone( I think it was Jason), they told me that they printed advanced copies for the THSCBA Convention to hand-out to the coaches but that rest of us have to wait until it is available in stores Feb 4.

For me, preseason lists are fun to look over because it gives you things to think about like why aren't there more NorTex teams(to steal a phrase) listed, makes me wonder about not having any other District 6 -5A teams on the list (Flower Mound?).

I don't think Coppell should be on any list until they prove they can beat some teams, after losing the all seniors including Green, Watten and Kaskow, there are holes to fill on the mound and at the plate.

But in the end I bet the list and information contained in the magazine has a lot more right than wrong. JMO
