I really like this kid and he proved early in his HS career that he could overcome poor coaching. Now that he has good coaching, imagine what he'll achieve.
A few guys I've noticed who've been outstanding.
Friedrich Loyola, E.Kentucky
Berger OPRF, Mizzou
Bates N. Central, N Carolina
Hollingsworth Plainfield, W. Michigan
Maugeri Stagg, SIU - recently highest BA.
Anna - as mentioned Ball State
In the minors - Bowden, Matt German (NIU) and John Ely (Miami OH) off to good starts.
I'm sure there are many others - awesome seeing IL kids doing great things out there!
Forgot to mention, from NIU.
Justin Behm, catcher Downers Grove. Very nice season numbers but in 12 conference games:
.386 BA, 6 HR, 20 RBI and 886 slugging.

If anybody's in the area Wed. night NIU plays Notre Dame at the cell at 7:00. A number of area kids on both rosters. It's also a fund-raiser for the NIU scholarship fund honoring the victims of the tragic shooting a few months ago.
Should be warm - tickets $10, believe they've sold 4000+ and hoping for more.
Matt Reimer is having a great senior year at St Joes. He has broken several career records and this past week was named GLVC Player of the Week. He went 12-19 at the plate with 8 R, 8 RBIs,3 doubles, 2 HR, and a slugging % of 1.105. He's hitting .373 on the season. The Pumas are 40-11 and have clinched a berth in the GLVC tournament.
Matt Reimer & my son Chase, signed with Saint Joseph's on the same day and I have watched his entire career with the Puma's. He is an outstanding shortstop, with good range and a great arm. Matt has been the starting shortstop and the team leader for the last 4 years will leave the school with many records, including hits, sac bunts, triples, games started, etc. He is also very well liked by teamates, parents and opponents. Great job, Reims!!
Kevin Crane (Crete-Monee HS) is absolutely tearing it up at Parkland. Last I saw, he's hitting around .450 with 11 homeruns in his freshman year. His senior year of HS was hampered while he recovered from some shoulder surgery and had it not been for that, he would have gone to a big D1. Glad to see that he fully recovered and is showing what he can do down at Parkland.
Christian Friedrich LHP Eastern Kentucky (Loyola Academy) will be drafted in the 1st round of the June 5th 2008 draft. Could go as high as # 5 with San Fran, 7 with St. Louis, or tumble to 12 from what I hear. One thing is for sure, he is going in round one and will be a millionaire in a couple of weeks. Huge things ahead for this local kid. He has earned about every award a college D1 pitcher can get. He is up for the Golden Spike, but that would be a stretch because of where he plays. He was also one of the top pitchers in the Cape last year as he started in the All Star game.

Lincoln-Way East teammates of the class of 2005 have done quite well in college. Jon Moore has done a great job as the starting center fielder for Purdue this year - being honored as the Big Ten player of the week as well as All-Tournament Team for the Big Ten Tournament several weeks ago. They finished second in the Big Ten behind a strong Michigan team.

Dean Anna has also excelled at Ball State this year as shortstop - also earning conference player of the week during the year.

Likewise for Ryan Holley - at Binghamton University in New York, who had a solid year at first base.

Chris Kovacevich just finished his first "active" year with UIC after tranferring from Coastal Carolina and sitting out last year with Tommy John surgery. He moved from the bullpen to starting a number of games - and the team just competed in the College Station Regionals against Texas A & M, etc. after winning their 7th straight Horizon League title and 4th ever trip to the NCAAs.
