ok, I learned something today!

Clubhouse dues!
That is money given to the "clubby". FBM told me what his duties were but my son told me this morning he is the "guy who does the laundry". It is a set amount and payable every two weeks.

I figured it out, I am very good at laundry but never got paid that much to do it. Big Grin

Only kidding, that must be a thankless job! Eek
I have a question for the board that I'm not exactly sure about.

Here it is: If a player "leaves out" vital medical INFORMATION on paperwork prior to the draft, and is guilty of lies of omission, is the MLB organization required to honor that contract, especially if it is a big dollar amount. Need clarification. Anybody?

You should get a copy of the milb contract and read it.
Most likely the contract would not be voided but the bonus money given might be in question. If the club is paying out large bonus $$, you can be sure the player will undergo a complete exam. After the exam is found to be normal a wise advisor/agent will ask for a letter protecting the player against loss of their bonus. If not normal, most likely the player's bonus would be lowered significantly and any medical care would fall under their responsibility , not the clubs.

This is why it is vital that a player NEVER sign with an agent until after his medical exam. The contract can be voided but the player is now considered a professional and looses all eligibility.

Shep,
At the risk of offending some posters by discussing the business aspects of Milb, the answer to your question will depend on the content of the contract.
In all likelihood, it includes language that the health questionaire is incorporated as a part/condition of the agreement.
If something like that is included, then the team will decide what happens and the options are theirs. Their options would include: 1) Void the contract for the misrepresentation with the return of any bonus paid; 2) Proceed with the contract and waive the misrepresentation, and 3) Void the contract and/or renegotiate that contract or a new contract on the known terms of the medical condition and a new bonus that could reflect the impact of the new information.
If, by some chance, the health questionaire and responses are not incorporated into the contract, then the pre-existing condition representations would not be part of the agreement. Under these circumstances, the agreement would be valid unless some legal exceptions might come into play to permit the club to argue the representations were part of the deal. That gets very legalistic.
As a member of the "woebegone troika" with Fungo and FrankF, I think I risk impact on my Karma by proceeding further with the discussion.

We lost the jailbird series (whatever that means).

TPM, I believe it refers to Auburn and Batavia having two of the main NY jail/prisons in their locale. There is a main state prison very near downtown Auburn and the Attica State prison is just outside Batavia.
With that said, the Finger Lakes area surrounding Auburn, NY is about as beautiful a part of the country as any place I have been.
Also close to Cooperstown.
One of the great parts of being a parent of a minor leaguer is the places we visited. Met wonderful people and had great experiences off the field also. Having a summer in Auburn allowed us to drive around the lakes, visit the wineries, arts and crafts stores and restaurants in the Finger Lakes as well as to drive and spend a day at Cooperstown. Loved it so much, went back on our next trip and loved it even more.

How about the finger lake series? The WINNERS could get an all expense paid trip to visit wineries, resturants in the surrounding areas. Wink I knew about the jails. Big Grin

I hear it is very beautiful up that way, trying to figure out when DK will be back on the mound for a visit, maybe august.

BTW, thank you for your post before that. Shep has asked the same question on another site, also stating that he could provide a list of players that might have been dishonest when accepting their bonus $$. As you do know that in the game of baseball anything can happen at any given time to any player on or off the field. Frown

It is the player's responsibility to disclose all information when asked and the club's responsibility to give a medical exam and clear a player.

To allude to the fact that he can name many players that were dishonest in their dealings is bothersome to me, JMO.

The milb states clearly states what implications could arise when there is an injury(article XVII physical examination sub paragrah B).
"If such examination reveals the presence of any physcial and/or dental defect, congenital or oterwise, which in the judgement of the physician or dentist would or might substantially impair Player's ability to play professional baseball and was present at the time of execution of this Minor League Uniform Player Contract by Player, Club MAY terminate this Minor League Uniform Player Contract without further payment to Player of any bonus, benefits or other compensation........".
As you stated the club has the right to make the decision.

Thought I would check in and give a minor league report on my end.
First thanks all for your emails and asking about DK. Seems he is now ok and threw a pen with no pain, just needs to get the arm to catch up with foot/ankle. One more bullpen and possibly on the mound next week. Batavia is on a 4 day rotation with pitch count, so once he's up and running he will be more in the mix. They have been away and I enjoy listening to our announcers (they don't announce at home). I enjoy hearing about DK's teammates. One of the announcers name is Eric Kopp, now how ironic is that, just as spooky as that cardinal that was hanging out by our window in Myrtle Beach!
BMX05 was at the game the other night and sent me some secret pics of Dave, that was soo nice and much appreciated. He looks good in red and I do like the Muckdog hats! Husband has one already! This new journey has allowed me to meet some new folks and Card fans and it has been fun.

I am learning about the cards milb system and their philosophy,it is intersting. I suppose most of the teams philosophies are the same. Batavia hasn't won much, but their mission is to get players ready for Quad City next season and many of the players have already left for them. Someone told me the Cards have never had a winning ss. I understand the GM/Scouting director is pretty liberal with giving out promotions and moving players up frequently. With the Cards, you have to go through each team, even if for a few weeks. For those that don't know, it is like I mentioned about college summer ball. You come and play. You use the skills you got drafted for. Around 30 days into the season, the coach decides if the player needs adjustments and if the player is receptive to those suggestions. There basically is no rush, it's just a time for pitchers to pitch against wood and batters to hit with wood. Surprisingly I find the hitters in the league to be pretty good and many pitchers struggling, I thought it would be the other way around. I am not sure if it is because pitchers are tired at this point in the year after their college season, maybe someone has theories on that one.
It's been hot all over but Batavia enjoys comfortable evenings for baseball. Dave is on a 6 day road trip and enjoyed his first 3 nights at the Doubletree. I caught him sleeping yesterday mid morning, he said he was just so comfy he couldn't get up!

Where is Orlando?

Orlando's in Florida. Or in that Virginia Woolf book....which could be anywhere, really... Wink

Have only popped in and out briefly. One of our techs at work has had a series of truly horrible things happen, and as House Mom and keeper of the boss' credit cards, I've been arranging child care, house cleaning, lawn care, meal preps, and law advice. His 37 year old wife had a series of strokes a month after the birth of their baby, and their three year old is going through evaluation for autism. He has no family and her family is, shall we say, difficult. So we're all acting in loco parentis at the moment.....
FBM suggested that.

Since son is not playing now I am having a good time finding former friends of DK's and Clemson players who got drafted (plus those from our own HSBBW family) and listening and following. DK is also enjoying finding old teammates and friends springing up whoever he plays.

I get a kick out of following iitg's son, he is a base stealing bandit!
Looks like tueday night he may get a relief stint before his next start.

But things change....LOL.

Alan Farina, Dave's teammate will take in some relief this week for Auburn. I understand he is enjoying and getting to know his teammates.

His first trip was to Staten Island took a trip into Manhattan. Never being much outside of Florida, his dad said it was an eye opener. If anything, our boys are getting some good life experiences in.

Most of teh teams need some base stealing mongrels. Big Grin
With all due no respect, where you even at Terpville in 2007?
TPM, you are flat out wrong, again.

The inconsistent and lowly 2007 Terps embarrassed the rowdy Clemson Tigers crowd at Shipley Field in Maryland on Friday March 23, 2007 and again on Saturday March 24, 2007.

The Terps Friday night conference starter threw eight shut-out innings before giving way to the inconsistent bull-pen & blown save (and 'excuse me' W).
The Terps shut the door on Clemson's sixteen game ACC winning streak.

Fri 5-23-07
......Maryland IP H R ER BB SO AB BF
Casey Baron......... 8.0 4 0 0 1 7 27 29

The Terps Saturday night conference starter threw seven shut out innings before the bull-pen did their job.

Sat 5-24-07
......Maryland IP H R ER BB SO AB BF
Ryan Moorer......... 7.0 2 0 0 3 4 23 26

On Sunday afternon, some kid named Kopp threw seven innings of a shut-out ball for Leggets's 1000 career win. Do you know the kid?

Sun 5-25-07
Clemson IP H R ER BB SO AB BF
David Kopp.......... 7.0 6 0 0 0 5 24 24
In a season marred by season ending injury in the 4th game against the Terps I can take some small pleasure in saying my son was 3-4 against Baron and 1-1 against Moorer. Hasn't faced Kopp since the 8th grade but pretty sure he didn't fare as well.

All three are fine pitchers and have moved on up. Hope we get another shot some day.
