Good Luck to Tyler
Tyler;
You are joining a very strong team. We have several of our former Goodwill Series players on your team.
Lance Zawadzki, Luke Hughes [Australia], David Cooper, Yusuke Kajimoto [Japan].
Enjoy your experience!
Bob
I occasionally attend some Patriots games (I'm now looking forward to going this year when they play Lancaster). Nice league and real nice ballparks. Hopefully this is the start of a new beginning and better things in the near future.
Awesome he will continue to play. Enjoy
Everyone here has been so kind and your comments are most appreciated.
My son will sign with the Seattle Mariners and headed to their Jackson Tennessee club which is AA. He has to fly to Phoenix for a physical before flying back to play in Jackson. He is indeed excited for the opportunity. Thanks again for the kind support

Please say hello to Jack Z.

CD - I couldn't be any happy for you and Tyler. I did get to see him play in Somerset, where he went 2-5. Looking forward to following him again in Milb. The dream goes on....
Well, in the words of the great Yogi Berra, " It ain't over until it's over!" Great news CD and best of luck to Tyler. We will be following his progress!!

I wished I knew you were going to the game, as I could have gotten you and your party in free. I have done it several times for other hsbbweb members who have attended my son's games.
For those who may be interested in attending a minor league game that my son happens to be playing, all it takes is a pm to me (preferably by the morning of the day of the game) and I'll send a note to my son who'll put you and the number of people going with you on a list. Go to the will-call window before game time and pick up your tickets. Works whether his game is at home or on the road.
Thanks again everyone for the good wishes!
Congratulations!!!! Best of luck to your son.
Congrats to Tyler CD. I very excited about this new opportunity for him!
I am so happy that his career continues. This is fantastic news.
that's Awesome CD, Good luck to a quality young man!
Cool! I am glad he got picked up. I am in Pittsburgh so he was kind of close. We only have the Washington wild things here and I heard they are less then a minor team really.
I hope people don't get upset with me for updating this thread but some news to report....
One day after being named Southern League player of the week, my son was released yesterday by the Mariners. This was due to no fault of his own or lack of support from the Mariners. He called Chris Gwynn (Tony's brother) the minor league director and requested his release about two weeks ago and Chris agreed. My son wanted to join his former team (Barnstormers) after the Generals season was over and that required a release. The Barnstormers are in the thick of the playoff race and will likely play the whole month of September and perhaps into October. It allows him to get paid for an additional month and he enjoys playing there with Coach Butch Hobson and the rest of his teammates. The fans there are also very supportive.
I thought I'd update this post so people did not wonder why he was released. Thanks.
That's Awesome!
Thanks for the update CD. Sounds like a good move and sometimes you never know how things will work out. Here's hoping things go his way. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to see Tyler play again at Somerset.
Saw the Barnstormers play Bridgeport last week,
team really swings the bats well.
Butch Hobson out-coached Bluefish coach as well
Best of luck!
Thanks for the update CD. I had seen that he was player of the week - but not the release. Glad he is exercising control over his own career!
I just saw this. Thats awesome!
I follow the league, Landcaster pulling ahead. Clemsons Moskos recently joined the team. Lots of talent and its lots of fun.
Its really a great league, nice parks and loyal fans.
Best of luck.
Thank you for sharing and it's been great reading all of the responses. I am a mom of a kid that I'm told has some great talent. Of coarse I would agree but I'm his mom. Unfortunately for him, his mom knows nothing about getting him exposed, nothing about colleges, nothing about showcased... so I enjoy the days watching him play until it's over..... Best of luck to your son. When one door closes, another opens!

Be selective regarding the compliments. A lot of people don't really know what it takes at the next level (whatever that level may be). When my son was seven I started hearing how I wouldn't have to pay for college in three sports. I bought in when a pro scout told me he had pro prospect potential. I told my son to forget he overheard the comment and keep working hard.
I didn't see see my daughter as having any more potential than to play high school softball. She was as much of a late bloomer as a girl can be. She exploded on the radar screen in three sports in high school. She played college softball. In fact, in basketball she didn't go out for the middle school team. She knew she wouldn't make it. She played rec ball. She was in he varsity rotation soph year.

Agreed! Luckily for me I have a very humbled son.. He always feels he can improve and attends lessons to do so. His lessons coach, who spent time in AA ball, tells my son that his arm is twice what his was at his age but reminds him of all of the other things he needs to do to be the best he can at his position. It's a lot of work. He loves the sport and that's why he does it. Even if it's just a travel ball game, he wants to do his position well.... Even in a game that doesn't matter. but I just feel that since I'm so out of the loop and dunce to this baseball world that he will more than likely be overlooked because I don't know where to send him and whom to put him in front of. He's a sophomore, so not much time in HS left so I just have him focused on GPA and hopefully a career goal for his future....but the baseball years have been fun to watch.
"but I just feel that since I'm so out of the loop and dunce to this baseball world that he will more than likely be overlooked"
Mam, I disagree. although there are exceptions, talent is rarely overlooked. Now, maybe through our jaundiced view, our sons are not as good as we think that they are but normally not overlooked. Preferably, the summer before his Junior year, get him to a PG showcase. If his talent is shown, he will not be overlooked. IMO (and yes, again, there are exceptions)
I've been updating this thread over the last year or so....
March 2015 - son was released from AAA Diamondbacks. He signed with Lancaster Barnstormers about a week later. He signed with AA Seattle Mariners in June 2015 and played the rest of the year. After the season, he went back to Lancaster for their post-season run and played through September.
In November, he headed back to Australia to play winter ball for a second season in a row and here's where things get interesting... that thing we always say here at the hsbbweb that "you never know who is watching and it is a small world out there."
The pitching coach for his Australian team was the Pacific Rim scout for the Texas Rangers. He recommended my son to the Detroit Tigers who were on the lookout for infielders. My son signed over the winter with Detroit and was assigned to their AA team the Erie SeaWolves out of spring training. He had to beat out a ton of guys to even get that assignment. The cool thing for us, this was the first time in his college or pro career he was in easy driving distance of our house. We got to go to all kinds of games this spring and what a joy that was! TPM sent us Erie SeaWolves sweatshirts and they came in handy.
Last night, my son was promoted to the AAA Toledo Mudhens. Rather than feel sorry for himself last year, he grinded himself back to just one level below his lifelong goal. We are thrilled and another cool thing here, Toledo is also within driving distance of our house.

Congratulations!!!! That is fantastic news.
Congratulations!
Always great to hear stories of perseverance. MudHens...Jamie Farr would be proud! My first ever baseball game was at a Toledo Mud Hens game when I was 6.
Best of luck to T.
Hey - thats great news CD. I had seen some videos of him hitting some HRs and enjoyed them very much. Really impressive how much perseverance he has shown. Says a lot about him and his family!!
Man is that great news CD. It really shows what can happen when you persevere and believe in yourself.
