I was just made aware of a "quirk" regarding the Transfer Portal and thought I would share for whatever it's worth.
An athlete transferring from a multi-divisional athletic program will be shown in the Transfer Portal as a transfer from the level for which the overall athletic program is known.
Example: With Dallas Baptist being a D2 program in all sports other than baseball, a baseball player from DBU who enters the Transfer Portal will be listed as transferring from a D2 baseball program! I've been made aware that a few players transferring from DBU are apparently only receiving inquiries from D2 and D3 programs because they appear in the Portal as currently being with a D2 program.
For any of you with other kids or friends in other sports at multi-divisional programs, you may want to make them aware of this. (Such as D2 or D3 programs that sponsor hockey at the D1 level.)
I've inquired about this and have been told that the school can't do anything to change the way that such an athlete's profile will appear in the Transfer Portal. It apparently has to do with the way that Portal was "constructed" when the NCAA set it up. Coaches at other D1 programs can still look up and find the players who are transferring from DBU, but they would need to look for players leaving a D2 program to find the DBU guys listed in the Portal.
