Once your try outs are completed and this should not take long here is what we do.
3:50 Stretch 4:00 Throw with a purpose Move your feet catch with two hands put yourself in a throwing posistion before you receive the ball etc.
4:25 Posistion Play Inf working on prep step and proper fielding mechanics
Of working on outfield mechanics
Catchers working on blocking receiving footwork and throwing mechanics
4:50 Pitchers Mechanics work , pick offs , pitchers fielding practice
Outfielders in the cage. One live bp, others toss ball and working off t's rotating through.
catchers with pitchers corners on pickoffs and middle on pickoffs
5:15 Inf to cage doing what the of did at 4:50. Of working on throwing to cuts. Pitchers exta conditioning running, stretching etc. Catchers with pitchers.
5:30 Catchers and Pitchers to cage. Of and Inf working together on cuts plays to first second and third.
5:50 First and third Defense First and third Offense. Bunt Offense and Bunt Defense. Base running. Rotating everyone through each. This is a team drill with everyone envolved.
6:20 Team conditioning everyone. Stretch, 10 40s, 10 60s, 4 380s. Quick team meeting to talk about the practice and then field maintenance. Practice over.

We substitute every other day live bp off our pitchers for the team drill. You can also mix up the schedule and add scrimmages etc. But this is a typical day. We usually go about 3 hours and practice on Saturdays as well. As we get into the season we go about 2 and 1/2 hrs. We shorten some stations. But we do first and thirds and situations as well as bunt d and o every day. Hope this helps.
coachbaker,
CoachMay gave a good typical format. the main thing is to have a highly organized format that keeps everyone moving and active working on the fundamental skills. I have purchased the planners from the Baseball-Excellence website. I don't coach at your level but have found them useful. Time is the big enemy and you have to get things down on paper and stick to a sound routine. Good luck.
Do you have assistants? If so get them to pitch in as well.
Coachbaker, I have sent you a private message. I really don't know how this works on this site but if you can follow the instructions I sent then all will be fine.

Cball, I accidentally sent you the same message.

Coaches...great advice! I would suggest to the first year coach that you implement as many game situations into your drills as possible. Players need constant drilling, but if you don't put it in context with game situations, you are wasting valuable practice time. Think of yourself and your staff as teachers. Also, I suggest you communicate with the players often and get suggestions on what they like and allow them to question why you have them doing certain drills / routines. Be prepared to answer them...that is very important. Have fun and good luck!
