Nice!
I think its something that needed to be done. The old system was fine but in dire need doing things that brought it up to date with what’s going on in the IT world today. If people got used to the old system, they’ll get used to this one as well.
The thing I most appreciate is being able to upload attachments! In many of the things I do, I like to show an example. It was a true PITA to have to upload it to someplace else, then reference that. This way it will be a 1 step rather than multi-step process. Speaking of that, how do you deal with the additional storage that might be required? IMOP, giving attachments a lifetime of 1 year from posting would be fine, and would be an easy way to do housekeeping.
I also like being able to finally be able to use my icon. I've tried unsuccessfully for several years to use it, but never been able to.
As a 52-year old guy with lousy vision, here are a couple of thoughts.
1) The fonts on the left hand side of the main page are very tiny.
2) The shade of light blue that is being used makes it much harder
to read, either when it is used as the text color or when it is used as
the background for white text.
I don't have a lot of time so I tend to skim things - I can't skim this. I'm having a hard time following it. Unfortunately I don't have the time to"figure it out" so I'll be spending much less time around here.
.
I'm with mds1 on this one. We need a white on blue more like this...
That way mds1 and I wouldn't have to guess so much as to what we're reading or where we are trying to go. Right mds1?
.
For me, using either Chrome or Internet Explorer, a link is evident when composing a message, but looks like ordinary text once the message has been posted. If the mouse cursor is placed over the link, it is then underlined, but it would be better if using the mouse cursor to query weren't necessary. The word "link" in the first sentence is a link, but it looks like ordinary text to me. Perhaps I'm not entering it correctly.
.
Not working for ya' 3Fingers? Try using all five!
.
I'm having a little problem adjusting to the change. I think I'll go back to the Olivetti 98, typing paper and the US Mail. Email me your address if you want to be pen pals.
Was not sure at first about the change, but the more I see the better I like it. Great job, Julie! And I'm sure it will continue to get even better.

3FingeredGlove,
Thanks for pointing that out about the links being plain text. I just added underline and blue color to the non-hover state of links inside of forum posts. Does that work better?
Julie
.
Well I'm disappointed big time! It took me untold hours to teach my links to hover and you come along and make it such that they can laze around like a house cat in a sunny window sill, occasionaly cursing at a mouse 'til they're blue in the face.
.
.
I've calmed down. How do you rename a link like you just did with 'underline and blue color'? I've tried to figure that out, but I'm too thick evidently.
.
Julie,
Thanks, that looks great!
GotWood,
Use your mouse to highlight a word or phrase. Then in the tool bar at the top of your post, between the " mark and the Greek Omega, you'll see a link and unlink icon. Make sure you're in WYSIWYG mode (toggle at bottom right).
It's not bad. It may be a little cluttered for my liking but it is readable.

WYSIWYG? When You Slice Is When You Golf ?
I'd like to have the live link below be identified/named "Now that's the ticket!" How do I do that?
http://www.gaebler.com/Starting-a-Bingo-Business.htm
When I'm in WSYIWYG mode my tool bar disappears so I can't activate the 'Link' and 'Unlink' function.
I feel like I'm not only a dinosaur, but I'm that really annoying purple one. Please 3FingeredGlove, lead me to the promised land where big annoying purple dinosaurs can coexist peacefully with big annoying yellow birds. And I don't mean you merely having me tune into PBS. Super Dee Duper!
.
You're in WYSIWYG mode when the tool bar is seen. If you toggle it to non-WYSIWYG, the display will show the various tags used. For example if you type in "sample", highlight and click B (for Bold), and then toggle to non-WYSIWYG you'll see [strong]sample[/strong] (I've changed "<" to "[" so the tags aren't recognized).
Type in "Now that's the ticket!", highlight it with the mouse, click on the now-enabled link tool, fill in the URL, and provide a title like "Bingo Business". The reader will see "Now that's the ticket!" in blue and underlined. When the mouse is hovered over the link, most browsers will display a nearby box saying "Bingo Business", and in the lower left corner, the target URL will be displayed.
It looks great. I'm trying the format on the iPad and it works great too--even has auto correct! Thank you for all the work.
i dont sei tha oto corect funksion.
PS - After a few days of the new software, I've grown very fond of the spell-checker feature. Grammar checker next?
It would be nice if the results in a search could be sorted by date of post to keep the most current/relevent information available first. Not sure how they are being sorted currently.
After using for a few days I like the old format better. The distinction between one persons post and the next was much clearer. I liked knowing where the poster is from. It often has bearing on their perspective. I usually use an iPad. The old version opened a new window. It was much easier than having a the reply open over the post. I could click back and forth between reading a persons post and my reply. Pushing a box around with a finger on a small screen isn't as easy. These are just observations, not complaints. I understand why the change was made.
prefer the old site......
Thanks for the continued feedback. I appreciate all of the comments, both positive and negative. I realize that some will prefer the old format - there are some things about the old format that I miss, too!
I'm continuing to work on the new community every evening, looking for ways to reinstate anything that we lost in the conversion.
Please be as specific as possible about things you miss from the old site or wish we could change.
Thanks,
Julie
mcmmccm,
In reply to your comment about sort order of search results:
It would be nice if the results in a search could be sorted by date of post to keep the most current/relevent information available first.
I agree, I don't like that the default search order is "relevance" (however they determine that) instead of date. I will ask tech support to be able to choose the default sort order, but meanwhile...
You can change the sort order of your search results. Look just above the first post in the results list. You should see "Relevance" selected; click to choose "Date" and then click the Search button again.
Julie
By the way, this evening I saw 460 users online at the same time in our community. I'm not sure it's the most ever, but it is the highest number I have ever noticed.
Julie
RJM,
Notes in response to your feedback:
(1) The distinction between one persons post and the next was much clearer.
Would it help to have a bigger difference in the background colors between alternating posts? I will be experimenting with different colors schemes. That's something I can easily do with CSS.
(2) I liked knowing where the poster is from. It often has bearing on their perspective.
I agree, and several other members have commented on this also. I have placed a request to be able to add the member's Location back in for each post.
(3) I usually use an iPad. The old version opened a new window. It was much easier than having a the reply open over the post. I could click back and forth between reading a persons post and my reply. Pushing a box around with a finger on a small screen isn't as easy.
Yeah, I agree with this one too, but so far I don't know of a fix now or in the future.
Thanks,
Julie
i did like the old site, alot. but this is growing on me, fresh, neat, i'll get used to it. if woody can use it,so can i...eventually.
julie you deserve more than credit for this step up. thank you for the time and energy you put into this site,as well as the financial burden at times. thank a million.
Julie,
From my view, your results has been extremely positive and successful.
Recently, I learned to operate our web site daily from my i-pad mini. Never in my "wildest" dreams, did I think it was possible.
Keep up your great work.
Thank you;
Bob
Julie,
I too have turned the corner and have learned how to navigate the new site. As challenging as new things are at my age I probably have already forgotten how the old site works. Out with the old in with the new.
I am still wondering about the spell check function. Is that part of the site or Google Chrome?
Julie ... Maybe a dark green or black trim border around each post would work. I can't even picture the way it was last week. I think alternate colors would be too distracting and not (pardon me please) masculine enough for a baseball site.
I'm getting used to the new site, very nice!
One thing that I do miss is the location of the person posting. I know some put things like "middle of nowhere" but it was interesting seeing where people are from even if just a state was listed.
I like it! Great job! Thanks for all of your work on this site, Julie.
So far, the only complaint I have really has nothing to do with the new setup other than the change to the new setup has caused the same problems with HSBaseballWeb as my work PC has with several other web sites...Internet Explorer on that system is WAY out of date. I can read posts, but can't login - no button like I see with an updated browser on my PC, Mac or iPad. Bad because I enjoy wandering the site on the PC during lunch - not too bad because I'm supposed to be getting a new (and updated) work PC within the next few weeks. Unfortunately they don't allow us to make changes to our desktops! Oh well - guess I'll make due until I get the new system...
mcmmccm,
I am still wondering about the spell check function. Is that part of the site or Google Chrome?
Spell check is in the new community software. I just misspelled a word in Firefox as I was typing this, and got the red underline treatment.
Julie
The Spellcheck is awesome!
Two things, I can't always respond to pm's from my phone and how do I stop some of the emails? I may have missed that.
Where is spell check?
TPM,
Where is spell check?
If you haven't noticed it yet, you must never type words wrong. Spell check underlines in red, incorrectly spelled words (or abbreviations it doesn't recognize etc.) as you are typing.
I can't always respond to pm's from my phone.
I'll need to post this issue for tech support. What type of phone do you have? And does the problem always happen, or only some of the time?
How do I stop some of the emails?
This is one feature that's a bit annoying to me so far:
When you are typing your reply to a thread, the new software automatically has a checkbox selected, "Follow This Topic: Notify me about new replies to this topic." You can un-check the box if you notice in time and don't want the notifications. (I'll ask to have this default to un-checked.)
But if you didn't un-check the "Follow This Topic" box, click the "VIEW THIS TOPIC" link in the notification email, then look for the "Following This Topic" link near the top right of the Topic's screen, and click that to stop following. If you are NOT following the topic and are receiving emails, they might be because you are following the member who posted.
