I would have to say in my son's case that a recent PG showcase really helped him out recruiting wise. A good writeup combined with some good numbers and he was getting a few text from coaches the night of the showcase. I think more important is connecting with a damn good select organization with connections. It did seem that it was a big help thou that his select coaches had the numbers, video, and writeup to go with their opinion. This Covid situation has made the whole recruitment process really strange but it can still workout well for the kids with the right breaks and direction.

You get to look up opposing pitchers/player and tell whoever is sitting next to you this guy is the 37th ranked Lefthander in the state of Idaho and ran a 7.8 60 when he was fourteen. That'll let the other parents know you're a nut and keep them away from you.
Trust me.

If the travel coach can't/won't give a strong recommendation, then you need to re-think something.
Yup.
There was a kid my son played with in Travel Ball. They both played the same position and were fairly even in talent, by most accounts, and it was always a tough decision by the Travel Coaches as to who would end up on the A Team and who would end up on the B Team.
That kid’s Dad was convinced his son was a D1 talent. I was convinced that I grew up as a Basketball player, could teach anyone about step back 3 mechanics and crossover dribbles, but that the powers that be in college Baseball could determine my son’s abilities all by themselves. I asked a lot of questions here and put two and two together pretty easily.
The other kid attended, literally, 15 PBR’s over the years, and several PG events, and traveled all over for various extra events. His Dad must’ve spent $7000 on showcases alone. My son attended Zero PBR’s and PG events, because the feedback we got from college coaches was that he was a “good solid D3 guy/borderline D2 guy/maybe think about JUCO”.
PBR ranked the other kid WAY higher than my son. Guess how much my kid gave a care about that?!
Both kids ended up at the exact same level of D3’s here in the midwest.

Bolded the important part. The write up means almost zero to college coaches. Put up the right numbers and coaches will contact you.

Definitely helps you see game and tourney stats and history and across different signing class players and schools when you're researching schools to see where your son may fall in line at a particular school based on metrics you can see with the $30/month one. Useful to know if you're targeting a school where you'll be 6 out of 8 or 2 out of 6 in the depth chart based on various stats and guesses.
The PG class rankings are also just math. Those with more in their class, that also can recruit higher ranked folks and therefore jump to the top with 19-22 players, most ranked in top 1-200, compared to a 11-14 roster size school, with guys ranked in variety of tiers.
Kudos to LSU for landing studs with only 13 in their class

When you read this you realize the rich keep getting richer. I'm not blaming anyone, especially the big dogs, but it is reality in college sports. Once you have the advantage it is easy to keep it. I do think Vandy has a definite edge over almost everyone else when they can almost give full rides to everyone with athletic or academic or grant money. But that is the system and if I was Vandy I would definitely use it.
Yep, math and momentum.
Same with Stanford. The endowment makes that place super affordable, in a ridiculous way.
Crazy how Vandy is "cheaper" with "Opportunity Vanderbilt" than the a state school like UnivTN (so people don't get their UT's confused. LOL)
Vandy should be winning every year along with Stanford, regardless of coaching. That’s why I love baseball, it finds a way to reward execution, hustle and ultimately the character of the program....luck, fate , preparation of whatever the baseball gods find a way to even it out.
So, PG rankings for 21’s were last updated 11/03/20. Should we expect to see them updated again soon? My son’s profile shows a national and state rank, but he’s not in “the” rankings.
you will after a few of the select showcases and MLK tourneys and the HS tourneys coming up early season (that only benefit those that participated). The next big PG update after that, typically is mid/end of June....after everyone gets a chance to play and participate in tourneys.....

If your ‘21 son is already committed rankings aren’t going to matter one way or another. If he isn’t committed a move up in rankings, at this late date, isn’t going to help him. 2021 recruiting classes are smaller than usual at many schools as hardly anyone actually needs more players. There is very little baseball $ left to give at competitive D1 & D2 programs. Taking a walk on deal as a ‘21 is a recipe for disaster as you will be competing against 5 recruiting classes of scholarship players. For ‘21s that aren’t committed at this point you may want to consider taking whatever deal you can get (to prove yourself with hopes of transferring afterwards) if playing college baseball is really important to you.
Hey Adbono, got it. He committed in November after PG, I think I PM'd you about it and it all worked out well. I don't have any expectations that the rankings matter to anyone at this point, but they are part of the product I bought from PG and I want them
Note, I emailed PG and they responded in a couple minutes - they plan to update the rankings this month.

You are correct that you sent me a PM about his options but (after reading it again) I don’t see that I ever heard about a commitment being made. So I was not aware of that until now. Anyway, glad it worked out.
that's my bad, you gave me great advice -- will write something up about the journey to date.
I know my kid really wants to find a post/tweet/IG/tiktok etc. from someone stating they got an offer because of their PG/PBR ranking. He needs the proof so he can show up his rank hatin' old man.
Son had his grade update from the PGME in Dec on Mon. Yesterday his ranking disappeared and was replaced with “Not Ranked”. So it seems something is in the works...
