I was at the game last night and can provide some details. There was probably 10 errors total in the game, but there was also around 25 collective hits by both teams.

- Fairfax goes up 2 - 0 with two runs in the 2nd.
- Robinson came back with four runs in the bottom of the 2nd.
- Fairfax scored 6 in the top of the 3rd (a few infield errors) and one strange incident described below.
- Robinson gets one back in the bottom of the 3rd.
- Fairfax scores 3 in the top of the 4th.
- Robinson scores 4 in the bottom of the 6th (a few infield errors).
- Mikush comes in to pitch one scoreless top of the 7th, striking out two.
- Robinson’s scores a run in the bottom of the 7th, with a leadoff single, two sac bunts (one runner ruled safe on a bad throw), an intentional walk and Bailey with a bases loaded walk-off sac fly.

Game was not over until almost 10:00 PM. Robinson coaches not too happy with the win, all players are running outfield sprint well after the games ends.

A lot of long strange innings, including a rare batters interference call. It started in the top of the 2nd. Fairfax had runners on 1st & 2nd with two outs in the inning. There was a double steal called by the Fairfax coach and apparently the batter was called for interfering with the catchers throw to 3rd. Next inning (top of 3rd), the same batter who committed the batters interference in the previous inning, comes up to bat again. The 1st pitch is a ball and then the Robinson manager comes out to talk with the home plate ump. The ump sends the batter back to the dugout. Apparently, the ump does not call the batter out a 2nd time for “batting out of order”, but instead allows the on-deck batter to come up to hit. The count of 1-0 is rolled over to the new batter, who draws a walk on a full count pitch. Fairfax proceeds to score 6 runs in the top of the 3rd. Not sure of the batters intererence rule, but if the batter was called out for interfering with the throw to 3rd and comes to bat to lead off the next inning, should this have been called “batting out of order” or must the batter complete his full at-bat before batting out of order can be called? Also, why was the one ball called on the 1st batter proceed to be passed on to the next batter? Does anyone understand this rule?
Well, the BI must've been an incentive...

Rule: On the "BI" the batter is out and all base runners must return to the time of interference. If it is the third out, the inning is over and the next batter in the lineup will lead off in the next inning.

Wonder why that batter was sent back up? Bizarre.

Anyway, on a BOO, IF the infraction is discovered BEFORE the (incorrect) batter is put out, then the correct batter is put in his place and assumes the count.
IIRC it's under 6.01. Don't remember the NFHS citation...

As to "why" - recall that in Baseball the action of delivering a pitch "legalizes" everything prior - so in this case the count is "set in stone" and can't be undone.

Like a big nasty curve coming straight at your head and then landing for a strike this game buckled me a little.

Fairfax has been working hard and took advantage of the extra practice sessions in the fall and winter and looked good at the plate. IMO high school baseball is won on the mound and with the last four batters. Fairfax's end of the lineup had a pretty good night. They attacked both of the D1 pitchers and sent them packing earlier than most expected. Neither pitcher looked sharp and both were hit hard. For Robinson to contend as I think they will they will have to get both pitchers to pick up their game by a couple of grades. Robinson has some nice speed in the outfield but needs improvement in the middle. You could see the difference in this game with the new bats, a few well hit balls falling noticeable short for both sides. Left at 9:00 with Fairfax up 11-5? Not surprised by the comeback, Robinson is a good team and Fairfax has to learn how to close a game out.. I think they will, they have a good group of seniors.

Surprised to see Evers in the dugout. Thought James was getting a clean slate to work with. Does anyone know if this was part of a package deal again?
Not excuses, but the Robinson starter threw only 2-1/3 innings last Sprint and the 2nd pitcher only 13 innings in 2011. Robinson is scheduled to have a game tomorrow and another on Saturday, so they may have been trying to save their two most experienced returning pitchers, who both threw innings during last Saturday's scrimmage Robinson won 30 - 2. Although, last night they did have to bring in their third D1 pitcher, most experienced, to close out the 7th. Another returning Robinson pitcher, who started and won against Fairfax last year, also did not pitch last night. Robinson has more pitching than what was on display last night. The first two pitchers just need to get more experience and that will come. They'll learn. Also, I believe Evers is the Robinson pitching coach this year.

Fairfax has some good hitters. It's still so early in the year and both these team's defense will get better.
West Springfield High School wins both games this weekend (16-17 March)

16 March: WS 6 - Robinson 2
17 March: WS 6 - Mills Goodwin (Henrico County) 5

Friday night vs Robinson was a pitcher's duel until the 6th between Connor Tagg and Mikush. In the 6th WS plated 6 runs and held on to win. Tagg, Hauptle, and Bird had key RBIs

Saturday was a close game where no pitcher dominated consistently. Mills Goodwin scored 4 in the first 3 innings, and WS scored runs in the 2nd, 4th and 5th.
On Thursday night, Robinson beats Kettle Run 2-1 behind a 16 Strike out performance. Denis Mikush pitched the first 6 innings and had 13 Ks. Chase Bailey picked up the save with 3 Ks in the 7th. Pitching was dominant in this game, with each team scoring one unearned run a piece. Michael Kann, unable to play the last two games, due to a controversial running into the catcher call last week, was back in the lineup as the Robinson leadoff hitter. Tonight he drove in the 1st Robinson run and scored the 2nd.
McLean 2
Stone Bridge 1

Both Ty Mocabee for Stone Bridge and Brock Hunter for McLean were fantastic on the mound. If I counted correctly Hunter stuck out 12 in 6 innings and Mocabee struck out 10 in a CG.

Obviously neither team had many offensive highlights. Josh Kuzbel singled in SBs lone run in the first inning and Hunter pretty much slammed the door through the 6th after that. Josh Sborz hit a solo HR to tie the game at 1 in the second, and also came in to pitch the 7th and retire the side 1-2-3 with 2 Ks.

Joey Sullivan's 1 out single to the OF ended the game. It was his second hit of the night.

Terrific early season pitchers duel to watch between a couple future Division 1 pitchers. Was very impressed with both Hunter and Mocabee.

Big early-season Patriot District game tonight is West Springfield at West Potomac. Much has been written on this site about increased expectations for the WP team this year -- this should be a good test to see if these expectations are realistic. WS comes in with a 3-0 record, but hasn't been really tested yet.

West Springfield defeats West Potomac 3-0 on a complete game, 1 hit shutout thrown by Sr. Tyler Tobin. Sr.s Dan Allen and Donnie Haeuptle each had an RBI
army, sounds like I missed a good game. Anyway, stuck close to home and watched Langley beat Fairfax 7-6.
I don't know details @ either team. Langley had good defense & team speed, pitching stumbled late in the game, but held off a Fairfax comeback.
Fairfax, OTOH, not good - errors, mistakes aplenty. Worse though was their Coach - arguing calls, storming onto the field, etc., - frankly, I'm surprised the BU didn't invite him to watch the rest of the game from the parking lot. I do hope this sort of thing doesn't happen again.
What is happening with Robinson. They were my top pick this year, 3 D1 pitchers, new coach with a ring. Any info.

I have seen Fairfax vs Robinson, Madison Vs Fairfax, Oakton vs Yorktown, Oakton vs Mclean, Woodson vs Centreville a few others

Madison is good, I put Madison and LB at the top as do most. A big drop to the next tier...
Most overrated right now, WP (13 errors against Oakton), SC losing to Woodson, Mclean - 2nd pitcher not impressive at all against Oakton. Robinson shoe is off right now. JMHO
Neither team in Madison vs Stone Bridge game did much at the plate. Madison's Tim Davis only allowed 3 hits and had 9Ks, but Stone Bridge capitalized on Madison errors and 2 clutch hits to score its runs.

Bukauskas kept the Warhawk hitters off-balance all night and worked out of several jams. With all of the quality arms in the Liberty District, it should be a tight race for first until the end.
After scoring runs on walked batters, Belanger had the clutch double off the wall that put the game out of reach in the first.....Murray was in total control.

Looks like Annandale will be battling Lee for the basement.....
