I have viewed hundreds of PG showcase evaluations with scores ranging from 5 to 10. However, with the exception of a small percentage of evaluations, simply by reading the report only, without looking at the velo and 60 time, it is hard to tell the difference between, for instance, between a 6 or an 8. Both could have, "contact hitter, stays inside ball well, aggressive", etc. I guess what I'm getting at is, would'nt the evaluations be more helpful if they listed the deficiencies instead of just pointing out good characteristics. Why not list the weakness??? (while there are a few which list weaknesses, most do not, and there are several which list a weakness and the player gets an 8). I mean, a lot of these reports say the same things with varying ratings. Please explain, any thoughts?

What I see in the showcase report comments is that PG uses positive language to, at a minimum, make even a less skilled player feel good about themselves. No one, players, parents, friends, coaches, etc...want to be told, much less have a public record for the world to see, that they are not any good. The grades and velocities tell the story. I do think that they use discretion in assigning the grades as well. I have seen high school kids at these events that couldn't have made my 13U travel team get ratings of a 6.5...keep in mind that the players (parents) are spending a lot of money to participate in these showcases and PG would be cutting their throat to assign grades of 1-5 and report that Junior has no baseball skills and would be better off playing board games...
I've read alot too. I'm starting to see the difference in the lanuguage used between the lower and higher grades. The lower grades will have a lot of positive "fluff" in the paragraph (e.g. "good approach"). The higher grades will have finer points (e.g. "plus bat speed, gap to gap power, ball comes off the barrel hard")

If you get a low score, just read the higher scores to see what attributes lead to the higher scores. This can help identify areas that you can work to improve.

Well, my kid was one of those high school 6.5 kids that ended up being drafted out of h.s. He had a bad day at the time. Maybe you would have concluded at the time "he wasn't good enough to make your 13U team" or maybe you overestimate the talent of your 13U team!

P.G. got it right. The rating system is not perfect--that's impossible--but they do as good a job as anyone, and there are many in the baseball world that pay attention.

My thoughts are that PG is running a business. Sure they are a business with alot of integrity, IMO, but the reality is they have to pay the bills. It wouldn't make alot of sense for a businessman to cut down one of their customers publicly.
