My son played for a team in this organization the last couple of years - and the competition and organization of the events was second to none.

Congrats to Ryan Brewer and the Albuquerque Baseball Academy for being voted in this past year. He's a great guy with a classy group of players.

Old School.... I didn't say every quality team in North America was in this group. I said that all their events were well run and the competition was outstanding.

And what I failed to mention was all of the teams we played against, from this group, had quality coaches in their dugout. And what I mean when I say "quality" is that they seem to run their teams professionally, put the kids and the game first, egos were gone and noone was chasing trophies.

Apparently I struck a nerve.....
My son has played in these Premier events for a couple of years now. I can tell you that there is nothing premier about it. The vast majority of these teams cannot compete with the big boys. They aren't event the best teams in the area. The funniest part of this group is that they very rarely let other strong teams in their tournaments. The tournament director picks and chooses who he wants to let in.

I did see some good coaching from several teams, but that has nothing to do with Premier. I saw one coach throwing up behind a dugout and then joke with a dad about a "late night". This also has nothing to do with Premier.

I am thankful for my son's coach. I may not agree with him all of the time but I think he does his best. He has helped him become a better player. This is more important than playing in a watered down members only club.

I think you're missing my point. Some of the teams are good. Some of the teams are average at best. Some are well below average.

Being a member of Premier has nothing to do with any player getting drafted. A player gets drafted on his tools/ability, not on what jersey he wears.

I looked at your list of impressive players. It's quite misleading. Of the players you listed as drafted in 2011, how many of those guys actually played for those teams last year? Of the players listed, how many of the players actually played a full season on those teams? How many just played a game or one tournament? I get a kick out of seeing teams list all of their amazing alumni drafted and signed. A great deal of the players played for more than one team or only made brief appearances.

I took a good look at your 1st rounders. Pretty misleading. According to their website, Premier was not founded til '04. I highly doubt Todd VanPoppel, Calvin Murray, Weiss, Wells, Tyner, Taylor and many others ever played in any Premier events. A few more errors: How many guys are Dallas Mustangs? How many guys are DBAT? I don't think they even merged til 4 years ago? Jason Jennings could not have wore a Titans jersey. They didn't field a team until a few years back. Didn't Gallardo play for the Blackhawks too?

I'm only giving the flip side of the equation. I am from the old school. I would like to see everyone focus on the players for a change. Lists like these do nothing but feed egos in my opinion.
quote:
Fungo... who are the "top programs" in your area? "Area" being say.... a 75 mile radius from your house?

He lives in Dallas, you do the math

First time poster, or poser, whatever you prefer Who is your son? What D1, did he sign with? What round will he go in the MLBAD?

Premier, has multiple meanings,,,,, more money, more egos. Not saying all, just mostWink

Half of the teams are from Texas. No teams from California, Florida or Georgia. REALLY, last time I checked, Cali and Florida, had more draft picks, than we did?
So, without teams from these regions, in essence, it's just a name.

Get a grip

OldSchool- I think you meant East Cobb Yankees - that's their "big boys."

Fungo- If Midland Redskins joined this group of teams, but changed their name to The Midland Redskins of Ohio, couldn't the GM of the team still claim Griffey Jr as an alum since he played for the Midland Redskins, just not the The Midland Redskins of Ohio? I think you are arguing red apples vs green apples....

Are the best teams in the country all involved in this group? No. Is it a pretty compeptitive group of ball clubs that at least all meet and play each other? Yes.

Are any of them Midland? No. Big Grin
Old School,

You must like playing those teams and think the competition is good since your small number of high school aged teams are in a lot of their tourneys.

Why spout off and try to down the league when you seem to play in their tourneys a lot?

Premiere is just a name just like Texas Showcase All-American or any of the other leagues out there.

I am pretty sure your costs are not significantly less than any of these other groups.

Not saying you dont offer a good product with the Gators, just dont understand your mouthing off when you obviously try to schedule your teams against teams from this league.
Will also interject further that obviously a lot of good players come from the Premiere league, but certainly not all.

Plus, I know for a fact that many of the players played for several different teams other than just the one premiere team listed for them.

Ben Grieve for instance played for the Arlington A's and the Dallas Mustangs.

Dylan Bundy played with OK Travelers at one time and DBAT.

There were a bunch of cross overs in the past, just like there are going to be in the present and the future. There will be a future drafted player (I am sure) that will have played for DBAT, Dallas Patriots and the Arlington A's during his high school years where all three organizations I am sure all three will claim him as a member of their organization.

Just saying the list is just a list and it is a way for the league and it members to promote themselves.

I am sure Old School would promote any players that had played for his organization on his web page just like these guys do to show past success and hope to attract for future paying recruits to their organization.

Esteban German???, Dillon Gee???? (who also played for the Arlington A's) Old School???? Wink
OldSchool- Your comment about "doing the math" doesn't make sense.

I asked him who HE thought was the top programs in HIS area. He lives in Dallas, so I gave him a 75 mile radius to pick top teams in HIS area??? What numbers need to be crunched in that?

I was eliminating Austin, San Antonio, Houston teams, so he would list HIS areas best.

Confused
quote:
Esteban German???, Dillon Gee???? (who also played for the Arlington A's) Old School????

Still bitter Shawn?
Not sure who, your speaking about with Esteban German? He never played with our program. As for Dillon, yes he played with the A's, as well as us.
The same could be said for Jeremiah Haar. Even though Haar only played a couple of weeks, during his Sophomore Summer with the A's, before he came over to our program. The A's still have him listed on their website, as one of their drafted players. Haar probably played about 10 total innings for them.

Unlike others. We do not list any player as an alumni, unless they play at least, one full season with us.

I am pretty sure your costs are not significantly less than any of these other groups.

You might want to check your numbers Big Grin

It's simply leading down to the same road, that has been run about a half dozen times, over the past year, on this sight. See previous topics below:

Which Teams Will Get Your Kid Better??
Verdict???
Select Ball - Club Team/Independent Team??

Yours, is basically the same thread, under a different heading. In reality, I feel that your asking the wrong people. It's the players, that should answer these questions. Instead of coaches, parents and posers Wink

Still waiting on your response?

Are you saying all these players played on a team that participated in said Premeir league?

The way you write it I believe to be true.

But if your saying that all the players listed played for a team that participated in the Premeir league, that would not be true.
Ken- just talked to my son's coach. He said that you are with Mustangs and all the players on that list, that are Mustangs, were sent to the webmaster of Premier Baseball by either Cade Griffis or Sam Carpenter. And he said only the head of each of those organizations in Premier would of sent in those names.

Maybe. Sounds logical.

Although, I still stand by my previous statement.

Don't know much about Astros, but outside of Little League World Series, Connie Mack is by far the toughest World Series to get to and win.

Astros could be the 10 time defending Tom Thumb National Champs, but who really cares.... Yankees are East Cobbs big boys... Astros could easily be the 2nd best group from there, I don't know....

OldSchool, is there a program you even know of in Texas that has had more players actually play in MLB?

OldSchool - "almost identical?" Is that like being the "tallest midget?"

Really? You asked the question:
"OldSchool, is there a program you even know of in Texas that has had more players actually play in MLB?"

The numbers speak for themselves. 21 vs 22, either first or second rounders, from the programs.

Not sure how many Sam has won. I would figure at least one or two. It shows on the CMWS website, that Dallas has won it 6 times. I believe the 1990 Champion was the McKinney Mavericks, not sure about the others.

Jamey,

Not bitter at all, you made your choice and did what you did and we made ours. It could not have worked out better for us. Despite all of your infinite baseball wisdom when he was at the age of 12 and telling him he will never make it as a catcher, the kid managed to do alright and made it as a catcher and has a scholarship to play college ball at a very good division II school. Never have given you in particular a second thought it was 5 years ago.

Just dont understand all your bush league banter when you seem to play in a lot of Premiere local tourneys. Why down it and the league just because the Gators group is not listed in it.

quote:
LOL, not at all. We compete just fine against, "ALL" of the so called Premier teams.

I just found your second comment to the guy that started this post to be snide and petty against a group of teams (Premiere)who you seem to like to schedule your organization to play. I simply called you out on it. Had nothing to do with bitterness. Just thought your comment was bush league.

As far as Esteban German, cant remeber what that Ranger player's name is that you use to talk about playing with the your Gators organization in the distant past, thought it was German guess I got the name wrong. Maybe it was Duran, I dont know.

Further, I simply stated that you arent doing anything different than the rest of these businesses. You all love to list all of the players that have played for your groups at one point and time so that those players can be listed as organizational success stories, even if the players only might have played a half season with them or one tourney. You and all of them all do it. It is one of those selling points that all the organizations like to tout.

As far as your costs go, I am sure your not doing your stuff for free and I imagine that your fees are not far off from some of these other groups. Not saying you are higher or the same or even less, but I doubt there is big difference. I really dont care what you charge, people are going to pay whatever they think it is worth to be with the organization they have chosen whether it be yours or someone within Premiere.

The list this guy threw up came right off the Premier website and I think there is no doubt a lot of good talent has played in the Premiere league and will continue to play in the Premiere league. Is it the only talent out there, I as well as you and the rest of these people on here know it is not. To be honest, I really did not even care just did not like your "so called comment" you threw out there so I said something. Big Grin

Just for the record...

East Cobb Yankees are very good nearly every year. High class program which has won the Connie Mack WS many times. In fact, between the Yankees and Midland they have won the CMWS 12 times over the past 15 years... East Cobb Yankees 5 times, Midland 7 times.

However, the entire scouting world knows that the East Cobb Yankees are not the best team in East Cobb. Yet year in and year out they are outstanding.

The East Cobb Astros are a 16U team, very often they have been the top 16U team in the country.

The East Cobb Braves are the top team in Georgia and among the top teams in the country every year. The majority of their players come from the Astros program.

The East Cobb Braves have had 9 1st round picks in the past 3 years. In comparison... The East Cobb Yankees have had 8 1st round picks over its long history which actually started over 30 years ago.

There are several top national level teams in Texas. I can think of at least two years when, IMO, DBat had the best pitching staff in the country. The Patriots had two of the top position players in last years draft. Houston Heat has a long track record as a top team producing early draft picks. Kyle Chapman also has a great track record. The Tigers have had a lot of past success. Of course there are many other highest level teams. And there are several first round picks from Texas that played for other teams.

All that said, IMO, the top two teams in Texas this past year were the Houston Banditos and the Texas Sun Devils. I am basing this on talent more than winning or losing, though all the best teams win a lot. So before debating this, lets wait until the draft takes place. I think combining the draft with college commitments is a fairly good way to judge the talent on summer teams in any given year.

I think Premier is an outstanding organization. I don't know all the teams and the over all quality on every team. I do know that there are some teams that are among the best summer teams in the country in any given year.

Bush league, huh? Once again, let me straighten out your facts. I never told your son at age 12, that he would not make it as a catcher. He was age 14, when I told John Davis that he should play on his AA team, instead of the AAA team. It was simple reasoning, I considered the other two catchers, better. In fact I still do Big Grin

We have been scheduling our teams, against the teams that you reference, long before they felt the need to call themselves Premiere.

The player you tried to reference, is German Duran.

As I stated, we never list a guest player as an alum. Players listed, have played at least a full season, most many seasons, with our program. So no, we don't list any player that may have worn our uniform. If you think so, please point him out to me, so that I can respond.

Costs, our high school players, generally pay around $1200 for a Summer season. This is basically a 55-60 game schedule. We are a 501(c)(3) Corporation. So it is illegal for us, to stuff money in our pockets. I'm not absolutly sure what the Premiere teams charge. But, from what I have taken from feedback from this site, most are in the $1700-$2500 range. So your basically spending $2000-$5000 more for a high school career, playing for one of those teams. I might add, most play considerably less games than we do. Our Fall fee is around $450, for 25-30 games. Also, considerably less.

From Perfect Game:
All that said, IMO, the top two teams in Texas this past year were the Houston Banditos and the Texas Sun Devils.

Correct me if I'm wrong Wink Neither of these teams, feel the need to call themselves Premiere.
Here you go JMart. Looks like we were both wrong. One thing is for certain, there is a whole lot of talent that comes out of EC every year Wink In fact, I was sitting in the bleachers in 2010 at Fort Myers for the BCS, when the 16U EC Astros beat the 17U Florida Bombers, for the 17U National Championship.

I am not going to banter back and forth with you about what happened five years ago, there is no point and really does not matter. You were partially right he was not 12, he was 13 I mis- counted the years.

You called me out asking me if I am bitter towards you, and I believe I answered your question. You opinions on players are what they are and you are entitled to them as I am in entitled to mine. I am not bitter towards you and in the big scheme of things could careless about you. Big Grin

I dont recall ever saying that your group charged more, just simply stated it is not a huge sum difference.

And your Alumni list is your list just like all these other guys have lists. You do the list for the same purpose as the rest of these groups do their lists.

As far as the Premiere thing which is what this topic was about, I think I have stated my point on that quite clear. Premiere is just a name, just like Select, Showcase, Great American or any other league name out there. I dont think it is any more than that.

"Your so called" comment was bush when referencing teams in the league that you seem to like to schedule to play. The competition must be good or your group wouldnt play them. I will, however, agree that not all the teams within the list of organizations associated with the Premiere League are stellar. The Premiere league is also not the only place to find Premiere talent there are teams all over the country with Premiere talent.

I think if you go back to the original post, the guy simply stated his opinion that the Premiere league is well ran with a lot of good organizations in it and that he had enjoyed his son being able to compete within the league. He also congratulated ABA for getting invited into the league.

It was simply nothing more than that and you took it to another place, albeit not all by yourself, but the guy understood your sarcasm in your original response.

The "so called comment" was what I was at issue with and the arrogance at which you flung it out there. Especially, since my kid has been apart of that league and I am glad he has had the opportunity to play for an organization who has pitted him against some top talent within the league and outside the league. He even enjoyed playing your team for which he still has several friends playing.

I will stipulate one thing, your costs are lower and I wish my payout would have been lower, but it is what it is.

I think I have said enough on this, because this thread has gotten way off topic. Good luck on your business and playing the "so called" Premiere teams.
My kid played the EC Astros at a Premiere league tourney in Nebraska two years ago. I will agree that those kids were phenominal. Our group played them well, but still came up a couple of runs short.
EC Astros and our group were the only 16 year old teams in that 18 year old tourney. They fared better than we did and I think they finished third behind the a Blue Devils group from North Carolina and the Midwest Nationals top 18 year old team.

Saw a lot of good baseball that weekend. That EC team carried a lot of players. I know that they had at least 25 kids in there dugout and all of them looked really good, especially the nine they put out there against us.
