Some of the best kids from the 07 class were relative unknowns or at least not nearly as highly regarded as they ended up at the end of HS.

Casey Crosby was a pretty good player as a soph. but I don't think anyone thought of him as one of the top prospects as a pitcher. Two years later.... WOW....then they all wanted him. There are many others who come along in their Jr and Sr seasons and beyond. I never realized Soph. year was the make or break point.

I really love it when people who seem like they don't have a clue talk as experts on the subject.
Just when you think the thread can't get much worse, we get another comment from the Bergenbeach crowd. First and foremost, if your son truly loves the sport of baseball, he loves playing the game, often times as much as possible. Their love of the game trancends exposure, camps, colleges, etc etc. Some kids, mine included, would play all year long if northern weather permitted. Is that for everyone? No. Do you have to monitor it as an adult? Yes. Do we need someone from NJ telling us how to raise our kids? Not me.
This generation is very fortunate to have the Sparks, Top Tier's and Sean Duncan's of the world to help their development and add enjoyment to their love of a great game. Most kids baseball careers are too short. The above mentioned crowd may extend it but certainly add enjoyment to the time they have.
My thoughts on the advice attributed to Steve Bort and the Bergen Beach model, is that if it works for some, I'm happy for them, but I'll pass, thank you.
Wow! There are a few things that are really clear here.

1. No one is allowed to ask a question of how things are done of anyone. If you do, you will get your brains beat in by the "followers" of a certain person or organization. I might add that it was an outstanding question. Almost like the question of how the participants of a showcase called the "Super 60" are selected?

2. Bergenhschamp, you better realize that kids in the south don't take much time off at all, those in central America region never take time off. Our kids in the U.S. are getting squeezed out because there is an influx of players from those regions. And it really doesn't matter what the hs coaches want or think. My sons hs teammate who was a 7th round pick of the Marlins this year estimated that of the 40 draft picks in camp only 10 spoke any english. They also brought mono with them that he ended up contracting and had time off for. BTW, my son has played long toss nearly everyday since stepping onto campus. It is a must to develop arm strength.

3. Highheat is an instigator and loves to stir the pot when you might say something he doesn't agree with or you say something that offends the program he supports. I've already found out from a thread earlier this year he has a hard time reading and comprehending and when he makes a fool of himself trying to make others look bad there will be no appology from him, he will put you on ignore when you pm him.

But I'm from Wisconsin, so I must not know anything, right High? And how dare I get involved in an Illinois forum.

NCdad, players in the South play in warmer climates which are more conducive to throwing the baseball as opposed to the colder Midwest climate which can be a cause for more wear and tear on the muscles and joints. Fall ball here, is harder on the arms case closed. The argument about Dominican players doesn't hold water, there is no data on how many kids in that region suffer arm injuries. It could be more severe than you think. You make it sound like we need to keep up with them. Wrong! These kids need to shut down, ask any scout, the kids in the Midwest and across the country need shut down periods and an escape from the coaches, particularly travel coaches, that overuse them.
As for the title of this thread I have seen the magazine PBR and it looks accurate for the most part, Wright should be #1 not 2 but everything else looks to be good. Why is everyone always getting on this guy? He isn't attacking anyone just putting out a magazine with subjective rankings. Go feed the poor or donate your time somewhere and quit whining.

In the words of the late great Harry Carey. HOLY COW!

Can anyone tell me if any of the weekends leading up to Jupiter if your teams or sons teams played in any temperature less than 60 degrees? For the most part all the way up until this past week the most clothing I may have put on was a hooded sweatshirt. If you really want to talk about how a climate can hurt kids, it would be the high school schedule that starts in March. If that don't hold water with you Bergen, nothing ever will.

Bergenchump,
Please do share with us your expert case closed knowledge about cold weather affecting muscles and joints negatively in athletes.

You truly are a moron.

Oh, and just so you know, we are laughing at you, not with you, kinda like your knockout page.

Bergen..

It is a heck of lot warmer here for Fall Ball then it is for the spring HS Season. Would you suggest that we don't play Spring HS Ball because it is too hard on the arms?

It is a different story altogether than if Travel Coaches overuse them. That is a coach by coach team by team thing that you can't generalize on. Probably correct about some but very unfair to say about others. That goes for HS as well as Travel Coaches.

If a team makes a point to tell everyone just how much they win and it is important to their organization to do so, maybe you better look at how they use their pitchers.

I guess if you fly in a pitcher who has been pitching for other teams, you aren't responsible for overusing him?

Regarding the nonsense about "shutting it down and giving it a rest" in the fall, I was reading about Gerit Cole @ Jupiter. Throwing 97+ and turning everyones heads at the tournament, he will be getting Porcello $$$ not to go to college next year. Compare the exposure he recieved this summer to his high school team, where as a soph he pitched 12 innings and as a junior only 27. Where do you think he got his reputation as the number 1 player around, playing high school baseball or the summer and fall travel circuit against the best competition in the country? These kind of discussions are meaningless.
A more interesting discussion to me about PBR is the methodology of the evaluations. Are they based on present skill levels or, like scouting evaluations, do they factor in "projectibility" ? That would be interesting to know.

You're a mean spirited fraud with nothing worthwhile to contribute. Read your own bio, it claims you are a HS player...LIAR. You've been booted more times than a two gallon pail in a milking barn, yet you keep coming back for more...edited.

Don't ever pretend you do anything for kids, that's the biggest lie of them all.

Wow seedthrower, I don't feel the love from you, taht really hurts my feelings. Seems like you have a lot of pent up frustration. An instigator? Beacause I do not see it your way? All along I thought it was freedom of speech and thought. Cheeseheads really are superior to us southerners here in Illinois, got to go as you stated before, I got an order of Whoppers I need to get out. Best wishes to you and the family. I still pass on the love to U....
Here you go Playball2.

Extra! Extra! Read all about him! : http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:tKiN-Wvf3MQJ:www.a...=us&client=firefox-a

And CPLZ...great analogy..."booted more times than a two gallon pail in a milking barn." Here's some advice!

Sit close to the cow.

Use both hands for milking.

Your knee will stop the cow from kicking over the pail.

Usually, you do not need to tie the tail or the back legs of the cow.

I'm not saying who I am bergenhschamp...you can see from the photo you posted that I'm tight-lipped!

And as far as being supportive of CLPZ...I passed on the kudos because it really was a great analogy...regardless of the subject. It was a good piece of humor that I felt deserved recognition...the subject is irrelevant.

And if you check some of my posts from way back you will discover that I have been complimentary towards the man known as the Penguin and his organization. My son played two games against his team a few summers ago in Mentor and Euclid, OH.

We had a great time...my son and myself will never forget it. My son played against some of the best in the country in those two games...and for that we can thank Steve.

And please feel free to post away with the photos...I'm seriously looking forward to more!

I could say I am home with the sniffles, but that wouldn't be true and I don't want to be called a liar. So, to the all knowing CPLZ I post as does my son, although not recently. he got tired of all the dads complaining and listening to others with overblown egos ranting about one topic or another. So I like to have a little fun with some of the more sensitive dads.

Liar...

You can't even make up a good story...no one listed with your name is on the Bergen Beach roster. Your profile claims you're from Indiana, yet there's no Indiana players on the team. It's simply a business affiliation of yours.

Once again, shown to be the fraud you truly are.
