Well, I have many years of experience with the area and Radford baseball. They have had some firery and charsmatic coaches in the past and it didn't seem to make much difference. Radford isn't ODU nor is it VMI for that matter. I'm sure Lew doesn't have the full allotment of scholarships and I'm sure that his recruiting budget is smaller than any other D1 in the state. I'll also bet you he is the lowest paid D1 coach in the state as well and I'll also bet you he isn't FULL TIME baseball. I bet he teaches and/ or has other duties and responsibilities that take from his time as a coach. I'll also bet you he doesn't have a fulltime paid assistant and I'll bet that his asst.'s have to work at other jobs during the day to help ends meet. The school is located in a tough area of the state and an area not so inviting for baseball. Their facility is comparable to a high school field at a city park, but it is on campus. Its tough when you have to compete against other programs who have full time coaches and full time pay and with more inviting facilities.

It be like asking your son to be a good baseball player without a glove and bat or any manipultives like games and practice. Give Lew a break he is the lone ranger in a fight he nor anyone else can win!

Swingbuilder some valid points about area. I will let others with more intimate knowledege of the program offer thoughts on ur analysis.

However I do believe he is full-time as well as his staff. As stated in earlier posts commitment by school can be part of the issue. I don't think scholarship quantity has been an issue. Knowing families that have sons play or been recruited by the school, the Coach seems to be satisfied with how the program runs.

Many players if not all were offered their release after last season with only a few taking the offer so a lot of the young players who were forced into bigger roles will be back which should help them compete. With many schools on the lower or mid level of D1 they have recruiting challenges.

The difference is the energy level and the plan of attack on how to overcome thise obstacles. Rarely have I seen Radford proactively recruit or attend showcases throughout VA (just me personal observation) while VMI is the other extreme...I wouldn't be surprised they are at the LL World series (only kidding).

The blame if you want to call it that rests not only with the staff bit also the University in accepting the results.
