some of y'all aren't reading the posts....

THERE IS NOTHING ILLEGAL ABOUT BEING ON SOMEBODY"S SIDEWALK...ON YOUR WAY TO A PARTY THAT HAS JUST BEEN BUSTED BECAUSE A GUY IN THE ALLEY WAS UP TO NO GOOD! FOR GOODNESS SAKE, AT LEAST BRING ALONG A BREATHALYZER BEFORE YOU CAUSE GREAT HARM TO AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER.

ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL AND LEGAL IS LEGAL!
Having grown up in a family of lawyers and having studied law at the Inns of Court in london England for 3 years as a memeber of Grays Inn Law society, I can tell you that injustice is the norm. Innocent people are caught up in ples barganing and great expense to prove innocense. Guilt by association is also prelivant. If you are lucky a cop will let you go.
The law of torts is enough to make you put a fence around your house and never go out.
Student athletes who are serious about baseball have to exercise great judgement about who they hang with, where they go and what they do.
Yes, Of course we know the difference between legal and illegal. However, when a school board or athletic department sets policy about student/athlete behavior it can encompass more than what is considered proper in a court of law. I believe it is that policy making board that has Soxnole in such an uproar notwithstanding his disdain for the OPRF PD.

Bulldog, I respect your posts and your stance on this matter. However, I firmly believe that life is most often not lived white or black. It is experienced, learned, and explored in the grey area. I would not be the man I am (good or bad) if not for my forays into the grey areas of our society. My son will not develop into a "whole person" if he lives his life in a bubble. I would not want that either. You're just a bit too rigid for me, but if it works for you, great. One more thing, I'd like to know how many students attend your HS?

Please let this season finally begin so we can shift this board to discussions about baseball!

We have roughly 950 in our school.

I guess this is the lifestyle I've chosen because this is what will help me achieve my goals I've set. Going out to parties where there could possibly be drinking or other activities that are either illegal and/or immoral are not places where I would enhance my life. I do enjoy having fun; don't get me wrong but I do it in a different way I guess.
Bulldog,

I must commend you on seemingly having your priorities (for you) in order. You're a refreshing throwback to an era that more exemplifies life in rural America. I doubt that we've ever heard from a player who is also a Boy Scout mentor and teacher. I also know that there are Dad's and players alike who are sitting at home taking potshots at you and your beliefs. I may not agree with you on certain issues, but I respect your stance on them.

I'm sure you come from a strong faith backed family, and that also has enabled you to have a great deal of self-confidence in everything you do. Continued good luck, young man.
Bulldog, like my son #5 is following the only path afforded to him. His convictions make it easier for him than the same path would be for others.

For the last time, my problem is the social impact of athlete's forced into a kind of hiding.

As rosy put it, he would not be the man he is without exploring some grey area's.

To be specific however with regard to "grey area's"....there is no "grey" in innocent.

Please see the movie 'In the name of the father'
Although the main charachters were far from upstanding young citizen's, they certainly didn't deserve their fate dealt to them by "British justice".

We are less of a society if we subscribe to the "round them up and treat them all the same" thought process.

Soxnole,

Sorry if I hurt your feelings. Life isn't fair! Many times it SUCKS! Isn't that funny, we agree. You obviously took my comments a weeee bit too seriously. I thought you had thicker skin than that. I wouldn't dream of thinking that I knew more about raising children than you. I was a kid myself, and I work with and talk to lots of kids so I think I have some understanding of the situation.

I'm almost positive many of you have heard about how schools have cracked down on athletes after having seen pictures of them drinking. Tons of good athletes have been suspended and kicked of their teams. Just wanted to hear some thoughts on this. I don't know if it's right or wrong..I know not to drink but those athletes do have a right to their privacy and what they do outside of school.

Thought it was very interesting that TPBulldogs35 started this thread back in early February and it was his schools varsity kids .... Sandburg ... that were caught red-handed partying with alcohol. Daddy all ways told me "son be careful what you ask for."
