South Carolina drills hamburgers 38-0

Couldn't believe the score...21-0 at the end of 2 and the regulars were still in the game. One guy batted 7 times in the game.

What kind of coach does that to another team? With this debacle, I've lost all respect for the South Carolina head coach!

In my opinion, they should fire the pitching coach for CS because only 2 guys were hbp in the game.

Advice to CS coach today...Coach...get the kids on the bus and go home...forfeit score is only 2-0. What did you learn from the 38-0 blowout?

Your comment brought a question to my mind:
Do coaches teach players to have mercy and let up in situations like these?
In all likelihood the subs may have beat the cr** out of em as well.

While the score was certainly excessive, I'm not sure that you could characterize those players as "regulars" after only one previous game this season. You are right though, it got out of hand in a hurry. I'm not sure what the thinking was but Coach Tanner is not known for being unsportsmanlike. Coach Tanner is a very well respected and successful SEC coach. The Gamecocks hit 7 HR's with 5 different players. It seems the whole team was crushing the ball, so who knows...

Beenthere, I respect your opinion, but if you think the players are going to quit hitting then you are not thinking straight. If you think that was bad, why not have the CS coach forfeit and go home. If the game is being played, the team deserves to play the game to the max. You sound like a loser that wants to keep the game close so you might have a chance to win. Many coaches in the early part of the season plan on their pitchers getting some innings in to see how they are throwing. I see notheing wrong with the kid in at inning 4.

Final Series stats:

The Gamecocks registered 52 hits for a .419 composite batting average for the series. Fifteen South Carolina batters had at least one hit each in the series and they used 18 position players and 10 pitchers.

In the three game series the Gamecocks fanned 47 while walking seven. Gamecock pitchers allowed 12 hits and two earned runs and an opponent batting average of .132.

You should give the coach the benefit of the doubt on what his intent is at this point. The outcome was known by all, the opponents humiliation is not the fault of SC. The players had earned the right to play a minimum number of innings before being pulled. I don't think it had anything to do with "scoring another touchdown". I don't think you should be so quick to condeme the coach. JMHO. Smile

Not sure what really happened Yesterday. Sometimes it is good to get it all out in one game. Friday pitchers duel 3-2, Today 1-0 into the 8th SC put 2 more on the 2nd pitcher. Sat CS had a thirdbaseman pithcing in the 2nd inning which looked like take one for the team and tomorrow is another day.

Not making excuses for either side....It is baseball and sometimes STUFF happens! Let's face it CS is not suppose to be in the class of the GAMECOCKS but 2 of the 3 they could have just as easily won.

The score was outrageous, but today, Miami put 19 up on the board on FLA. Yes for all you mathmaticians that is only 1/2 but FLA is a rated team. So it just happens.

I'd like to believe it was just a case of not enough pichting on one day vs a dream day for the hitters.

Lets stop with the total of numbers of players used.
That is simply a shallow use of statistics to justify the run-up. I am not a complete moron. LOL

Lets talk about starters staying in the game after the third touchdown. Use those stats.

Heres what happened: A low ranked team came in and gave USC a game the day before (3-2).

An embarassment. So - Coach had to show them.

My only question is - why stop at 38. He should have left his starters in, went for 100 and had his guys steal home in the 8th inning too as icing on the cake.

Hmm....should they have a mercy rule? Well, they do play 7 inning doubleheaders at times....why not? I don't belive it would be bad for the game to call it after 3 TD's.

Tanner is a fine young man and Coach. Never known him to allow something like this to happen. Cetainly don't know all the facts except what has been posted in here....but there does not need to be any game played where the final score is 38-0....Now if they can just teach the Football team at USC to put up those kind of numbers

Who tells their kids to stop playing the game? Yes it is BUSH to steal with a huge lead, or talk continuous trash when a team is getting pummeled. But is any more sportsman-like to have your players bat opposite handed or not run to the base hard or try to stretch a triple out of a double when you have been constantly drilling into their heads to play hard no matter what the score is and be fundamental? Baseball is a team game but it is one on one when you are in the box against the pitcher. i would never tell my guys to start goofing off. More players get hurt playing around than playing the game. An excellent indicator if SC was being out of line is how many players were HBP or ejected. I say take your @$$ whupping and get ready to play again tomorrow. But by all means put it in the memory bank for future opportunities against the winning team.
