You are correct! He made no contribution that I am aware of.

I seriously doubt that...he seems to have overcome his paternal genes. Razz
Dadofones --- based on your contribution and others here --- it seems 16U baseball in the Metroplex is a "mess"! Smile What a tremendous talent pool spread over hundreds of teams in dozens of leagues -- most with the same (or similar) goal. I wonder if it is this confusing in Houston? It is a full-time job to remain in-the-know! Cool

Agreed! If we could only get paid by the hour for the time we spend on this site!!

Not really. Three teams in Houston are in the top tier - Columbia Angels, Houston Heat & Kyle Chapman (just listed alphabetically, for fans of those clubs). With a few exceptions, they get their pick of the best in the Southeast Texas area (drawing a player or two from as far as 200 miles away). In the second tier are several good programs.

San Antonio/South Texas primarily has the South Texas Sliders. They split off from the Hackers several years ago. The Hackers faded considerably in the wake of that split.

Austin has the Slam and Wings.

It's the DFW area that seems most fragmented.

I haven't run across a 16U Outlaws team. But that doesn't mean they don't exist.

You're right, ABC has had some solid older teams. Their program for the younger ages seems to be more focused on lessons & training sessions, although they do play games. The younger ABC teams I have seen were not competitive on the "premier" level.

Sounds like your teams are getting off to a great start.

Sounds like the Tigers have rebounded nicely since Gainsville....just goes to show, on any given day...
Panther Dad,
We were also in Waco this weekend with the Stallions 18u team. Sorry we didn't give you guys much of a game in the championship!! We just didn't seem to have any gas left in the tank!! You guys hit the ball well today. So congrats to you guys!!!
I was the guy in the black t-shirt that was operating the scoreboard with two little girls helping me. And my other kid was #8 and played SS.
PD,
Thanks for the positive comments! Things should get better for the Stallions as the summer goes on. The team members met each other for the first time Friday night. And we played our first game of the summer Sat. morning. We were also a little short handed. So second place is o.k. for our first time out as a team.
I am sure that I at least saw you this weekend. Tell me which one you were. You can probably tell me what kinda hat you were wearing and I will know. It seemed like every dad on your team had on some type of Columbia floppy hat (thats what I call them) LOL!!
You're right -- I am now in the market for a sombrero (as long as it's not gold). I was wearing a red Under Armour cap. Our team is playing very loose right now -- and that helps. Did you notice the guys got our first baseman (Poteet) with the eye-black in the helmet trick? Perfect 3" black line across his forehead as he took the mound in the 7th. Classic, but you know what they say about paybacks.

Pumpkin head --- ummm....East Texas Red Sox, North Texas Stallions, Dallas Drillers 18, RGV A's, DBAT 16, two Austin RBI squads, Knights, a team with a rowdy coach, and a few others? Smile CJ -- fill out the list for me.

Also, Waco Lightning, Fairfield Oilers, TX Tide were there! Not the strongest tournament overall but some decent competition anyway!
PD.. I don't remember seeing a red under armour cap. Unless you were the guy sitting next to the dugout keeping score. He had a red cap on but I just assumed it was a DBat cap. I just remember seeing several floppy hats and 1 pith helmet in the stands LOL!! (I guess I am easily amused).
No I did not see the eye black on Teddy's forehead. That would have been amusing also!! As my kid knows Teddy and J.T. pretty well. He was a Pirate until last year!!
Gotta post this in the right spot:

Drillers16 win Turn Two wood bat tourny in San Antonio.

Drillers/Dallas Titans W 8-1
Drillers/SA Giants W 7-0
Drillers/Alamo Elite W 11-1
Drillers/Austin Baseball W 9-1

and then in the Championship:
Drillers/Drillers White

W 9-1

Why did we go all the way down there to play a game at 6:30 on a Sunday night we could have played right here?

Because we are crazy!!

Congrats to all the Drillers!! The umpires had a time trying to stop all the fake fights in the stands. Rampant signal stealing by the White coach is smartly picked up by Drillers16 team and coaches signals approach five minute mark in order to foil said cheating White coach!! Big Grin

FW Cats 16U 9 v. Slam Rangers 1
Sliders 16U Orange 11 v. SA Missions 8
Sliders 16U Orange 9 v. FW Cats 16U 0

Don't think there are any big surprises in those results.
I drove back from SA invite last night, didn't get home until 1am...made the mistake of drinking a Starbuck at 11:45pm. Slept for 5 hours and then the caffine hit me. Here I am replying at 7 am....my wife is right I am a baseball junkie.

All the results are posted on the southtexassliders.com website.

The short story is
Houston Heat 16 Red #1 seed
McKinney Marshals 15 #2 seed
SA Sliders 16 Navy #3 seed
SA Sliders 16 Orange #4 seed

The A's teams each went 0-3 and are the 31 and 31 seeds at the bottom of the Consolation Bracket...that said every team I saw at the event was strong and both A's teams were in a strong Pool. The A's have 4 U15 teams and I know the top U15 A's team is winning some ball games.

I didn't see any Mustang's games but the Mustangs 15 Sharp squad went 2-1 and are the 8 seed and the Mustang 15 Abate group went 1-1-1 to end-up with the 18 seed.

Overall, DFW area teams did OK. The FW CATs 16 were 2-1 and are the 11 seed.

DFW record in pool play 8-9-1..there was another DFW team there but I couldn't figure out who it was from the names. Most of the DFW teams were 15's and did well against a strong group of 16's. IMHO

The Marshals 15 have the honor of playing the Austin Slam Braves in a rematch of the game they played last night and won 1-0. Not exactly a good draw for the #2 seed. But then again it doesn't appear any of the Championship Bracket games are an "EZ" draw.
